How is Russia Restricted?

You should probably start playing with bids to help out the axis.  You seem like a pretty good player who is ready to move on.

Quite frankly it doesn’t matter what Russia does on R1 (straight up) the Allies are going to win the game.

For the sake of argument though, I’ll Retake Man (heavy), probably take Chi, and do a variation of Pearl Lite.

The Reason bids should be considered is here is a typical R1 turn

1)  Attack Ger sub with Rus sub (either win or chase off ger sub)
2)  Kill Ger ships in baltic (2 ftrs, 1 trn)
3)  Strafe/take Ukr
4)  Strafe/take Man (or just reinforce yak)

There is just too much damage you can do.  Russia is far to powerful when played right.  Hence the need for RR with a 9-12 bid or just a 21-24 bid game.

Soviets must pull out of Soviet Far East on Russia’s first turn. If they do not Japan may be able to place sufficient forces on Manchuria to destroy any Russian forces that would retreat to Yakut on Russia’s second turn. I would recommend leaving one Russian infantry unit on SFE as a picket. The more targets Japan attempts to hit on its first turn the more chance of the dice going against them. In other words…don’t let Japan have the territory for free make them expend resources in order to take it. Not sure what Alaska has to do with all this though.

attack easter europe – if this battle doen’t happen… it is the inevitable demise of USSR. the smart russian player will go with a passive/aggressive tacic… where Russia makes the first move. from here on in … its all about holding and fighting for eastern europe… and not holding and fighting for karalia.

this tactic is great if you have co-operative allied players… as USA MUST concentrate on keeping Japan busy, and UK Must keep Africa and support Russia in Karalia, and take Finland/Norway first round

With all going well… Germany is ready to fall just before Japan is ready to take Russia-- so Russia can fortify

I agree that it is foolish to buy anything other than infantry for some time, but I do like to strafe at the begining of the game; it allows me (Russia) to have some control over the front. Not feeling in control is probably one of my worst enemies.

Key word is the Allied Navy. Now granted that you can pull all available troops in Europe and hit Karelia with a super stack, you still have a good chance of winning even against 18 inf, 3 ARM, 2 ftrs. However, there’s no way that the surviving force can poke through Russia on G2, especially if the Russians have reinforced entirely with inf. This is where the Allied Navy comes in, when you busy building ARM for an invasion force and have to wait for supplementary inf to arrive on time, chances are that UK and USA will be hitting you in Western Europe or Worst Yet(!) Germany itself – game over.

Heres my ruleset. I find these to be my personal favorite.

Add to Britain - 1 IC in place of Britain’s Choosing

1 Bb off Britain
1 Transport 1 sub off Australia
2 Infantry to Egypt
2 infantry to Persia
5 Infantry 1 Fighter wherever Britain wants to put it.

Add 3 Infantry to Karelia
Add 3 Infantry to Yakut

Take away 1 Transport (Phil) from Japan
Take away 1 Transport (Atlantic) From US

Complete FFA, last one alive wins. No special rules. It gets pretty nasty. I remember, in the space of 3 turns, I once backstabbed both Japan and Russia, my allies, Allied with Germany, Attacked America (and won) and did an Amphid assault on Germany itself.

Needless to say, I won that game :smile:

I play restricted, so all i do is move my naval units to england. As much as possible inf to karelia, one fighter to india. Three tanks into russia. 6 men into yakut, and leave one standing to the right of Yakut(cant remember what the land is called).

This has worked fine for me over the years.
