Challenge:Best 100pt 1939 Army build?

haha yeah i think i have one somewhere in my collection.

It hits weak tanks from a distance and destroys them. They are basically strong japanese artillery. You could overwelm enemy tanks with the HA-GO, but will never destroy an easy 8 or something better.

Wow! Tiger heaven and great strat resulted in my first loss–quite badly at that.

What has been allies experience in the past in dealing with this map? Because we had only 20 units at 300 points I had to field several (5) armor and normally would have tried to lay back at the objective, but had not place to hide more than 2, maybe three units and theyd be divided heavily. With 3 crocs I had to charge and it was not pretty.

In expectation of an open map with heavy armor a must, then I’d guess going M26/M36’s for flanking would be wise. Any thoughts?

Well since this new set came out, I already got 3 of the 5 soviet rares.  I got the Soviet M3 Lee, IS3, and the T-35.  My favorite out of those 3 has got to be the Soviet M3 Lee.

I beat an army very similar to this except that there was no Grizzled Vet and the other guy had a sniper…and the builds were slightly larger.
Go w/ what Der Lieter said and avoid vehicles. My build was an all airbore one…British.
Try this:
Defiant Paratrooper x 10 = 80 pts
Inspiring Hero x 1 = 9 pts
Veteran SMLE Riflemen x 2 = 10 pts (remember these guys have steely resolve)
Total = 99 pts

Paras and Aussies should be able to toast the few infantry there. Protect the hero so that he can give you speed to trap and kill the tank. You should be able to keep it at least disrupted once you trap it.

The target does not have to be directly in front of the SU-85. It needs to be in front of the SU-85 as defined in the rules. See the page where the rules explain what it means to be behind or on the flank of.

All it really means is that you need to pay attention to facing when you end your movement.

Sounds like your opponent was using a Tier 3 army at best; hardly tournement calibre.

Be that as it may, your army isn’t bad.  Whenever you make a UK army the Churchill Crocodile is generally a primary consideration.  The Comet has it’s uses, but I just don’t like the 3 rear defence on such an expensive unit.  It’s still fairly easily disrupted, and just about everything can get past a 2 defence.

Your army makes effective use of the Lieutenant with both Gurkhas and allowing the 17 pounder to move during the movement phase.  The Stuarts provide adequate support for the slow moving Crocodile.

So to help give Germany a slight extra advantage, we play as a house rule that the vehicles must setup on the back hexes. It really helps balance the game.

Apparently in the original play tested versions of the game all units started on the back hexes but the game took to long. So instead of having infantry setup 5 in and the vehicles on the back. They did everything in the first 5 hexes.
