WASHINGTON, DC –The federal lawsuits accusing airlines of ethnic
discrimination should be dropped, Libertarians say, because they will
interfere with the fight against terrorism.

“Plaintiffs’ attorneys and special-interest groups should stop terrorizing
the airlines with ridiculous lawsuits,” said Steve Dasbach, Libertarian
Party executive director. “This is no time to be punishing airlines whose
employees make honest mistakes as they try to prevent another nightmarish,
September 11-style hijacking.”

Dasbach was reacting to the lawsuit filed on Tuesday against four major
airlines by five men who were denied boarding in the wake of the attacks on
the Pentagon and World Trade Center. Other passengers had complained that
the presence of the men, who were perceived to be Arabs, made them
“uncomfortable,” and said they feared another hijacking.

The Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee, which filed the suit on
behalf of the men, claims the airlines’ response is part of a “new and
disturbing trend” of removing passengers because of their “perceived
ethnicity.”

“There is a new and disturbing trend in America, and it’s called
terrorism,” Dasbach said. "The airlines have been put in a no-win
situation, in which they will be blamed if another hijacking occurs, yet
criticized if they deny seats to the people they think might cause it.

"Yes, people who appear to be Arabic have rights. But what about the rights
of the airline pilots and flight attendants; the rights of the hundreds of
passengers on the plane; and the rights of thousands of Americans who could
be killed in skyscrapers or on the ground if another hijacking occurs?

“Considering the earth-shaking consequences of another hijacking, doesn’t
it make sense to give airlines the benefit of the doubt when it comes to
deciding who can board their planes?”

Of course, airline security personnel will sometimes make mistakes and deny
boarding to innocent people, Dasbach acknowledged.

But consumers who believe an airline is cavalierly rejecting customers
simply because of their ethnic background, and not just over safety
concerns, have a way to punish them, he pointed out. “You can take your
business to another airline or even organize a boycott,” he said.

"Thanks to the power of the free market, airlines and every other private
company have a compelling reason to treat customers fairly: Their jobs and
their profits depend on it. They have an incentive to let as many
passengers board the plane as possible, regardless of their ethnic
background.

"When it comes to determining which passengers pose an actual threat in the
aftermath of September 11, the real question is: Who decides?

They do, and yes Israel has a far from perfect human rights record, but they are fighting a never ceasing war. Many countries defy the biased UN. I would have to say that the Palestinian Authority and Iraq by far dwarf israel in human rights abuses.

Racial profiling is like picking a racing horse…you need to pick the right won according to what statistics and numbers tell you…this has nothing to do with race, and too many PC people think so. You cannot deny the fact that 15 out of 19 hijackers on 9-11 were saudi, hald were name muhammed, and that all paid with a credit card…profiling is a great idea…every aspect of a criminal, including race and origin should be considered…not because we don’t like a certain race, but numbers dictate that there is a better chance of preventing a crime from happening. Not taking action is a human rights abuse. 3,000 people dying is a human rights abuse…the right to live.

Sorry even when I go to school with a large percentage (well, larger than most schools in America…) of Middle Eastern Arabs and Muslims, I don’t hear very many racial slurs or anything about Muslims. This is also true for the community and what I see on TV.

What makes you think that the only blue eyed, blond haired “terrorist” are only white supremacist? Where there’s a will there’s a way. Also, Muslim terrorist can just as easily kidnap a white family’s daughter/son and use the father to satisfy their own means.

Profiling is a great idea. Racial profiling is against human rights. Why not take alone the name muhammed and the credit cards? Why check for arab-like-looking ppl? There is a fine difference in that. If you take the race in with the total profiling, ok.

But:
why do you call it racial profiling in the first place? why not terrorist profiling or credit-card profiling? DO you see my point? You assume that the race is the most important part of it, it’s not about terrorists, but about races!

I think that a Camel Jockey would be the best out of the three. In fact I wouldn’t mind being call that myself! It has a nice ring to it. I saw Three Kinds but that was years ago. Must’ve forgot…

A few points:

1. Why do you assume that the terrorist attacks would stop if Israel pulled out of the occupied territories? Israel was hit with terror attacks while it was still just Israel proper.

2. The U.N. really doesn’t do much. Its more like a cheerleader/naysayer than anything else. Like Iraq for example, that was oil importing nations protecting their supply of oil. If the U.N. hadn’t existed, the same thing would have happened.

Uh, yes they do. That the UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, for instance.

Since its establishment, the Agency has delivered its services in times of relative calm in the Middle East, and in times of hostilities. It has fed, housed and clothed tens of thousands of fleeing refugees and at the same time educated and given health care to hundreds of thousands of young refugees.

Today, UNRWA is the main provider of basic services - education, health, relief and social services - to over 3.9 million registered Palestine refugees in the Middle East.
