  • Did he do the 2 bomber purchase G1? He Sealioned me with that one. I think I still would have won but I got diced on my recapture of London the first time and it gave him a chance to regroup. I think I had 4I, 4Ay, F against 3I, 3Ay and he held with 2Ay.

    No worries about the post. I have TripleA on the work computer so I get away once in a while and bang out some turns  :-D

    Yeah, I generally just get dead subs when I use them  :lol: I guess losing them in an actual battle where they can be productive works well. I noticed your 110 and 111 weren’t quite as strong without the 91 sub. It almost made me think about a scramble. Everybody who advocates, unequivocally, no navy purchase G1 misses the boat (so to speak) on that. With no naval purchase, I’m max scrambling and Germany probably loses one of those battles 30-40% of the time. And UK with a navy and Germany with none is a horrific thought for Germany in rounds 2-6 and beyond.

    Having been Sealioned once, though, and knowing how unpleasant that was (and how I never even get average dice when I scramble into a “lost” battle with the idea of losing 3 fighters at the cost of 4 extra german air losses), if Germany builds naval G1, I’d rather lose little than lose big…


  • Hmmm, interesting. To me, the weakening of 110 by throwing the sub at the cruiser is a perk. I was trying to tempt you into a max scramble. With my split, I was still up in attack value and piece count after a scramble so I should win both fights even if it means trading planes. In my valuation, each British plane is worth 1.5-2 German ones because of their operational capabilities in the med. So if I can trade 1 for 1, I’m ahead. Maybe next time I’ll save 30 instead :).

    Nope, wheat hit 106 with three subs, 111 normally, but saved his BB in 112 and bought CV/des/sub, took out the French med fleet and stationed something like 5-6 planes in Italy. If I hit 106 I need the cruiser and the bomber which weakens Taranto, but I cant allow 3 subs to meet with that already untouchable fleet. Combining in SZ92 just gets that fleet destroyed together because of all that air in Italy and I have trouble stomaching the idea of backing out the canal and allowing Italy free reign in the med for even one turn. Got a lot to think about there. I’m not that freaked out by Sealion because I love the big Russian bear :), but it has to be a costly victory for Germany.


  • I’ve thought about saving before, but then the odds in the sea battles go down because you can’t bring the plane(s) to 111 that need the carrier to land. I never thought you’d be baiting me to scramble :) Tricksy.

  • Can I get an OOL for the bloodbath that is about to ensue in SZ97? I’m going to lose about 9 planes on average this turn (more with my luck)…. need to take some deep breaths and cross my fingers super hard :P.


  • I’d like to see your purchases, the other combat moves, the board as it sits, etc. Since it’s SUCH a complex battle, would it be ok if I gave you my OOL as the hits come up?

    Just as one example, if the dice are so horrific for you in the first round that it looks like you’ll lose the battle or have to retreat, I’d save the carrier rather than tipping it, etc. 98% of battles are so straight-forward that any OOLs can just be taken care of all at once. But I like the experience to be as close to matching what would happen face-to-face as possible. And in those complex battles, I think the defender does a disservice to themselves by giving an OOL before it is needed.

  • No issues, that makes complete sense. I’m probably going to bail as soon as the carrier gets tipped, so totally understand. Though, if you have more than two hits left after round 1 I’m gonna be severely ticked. I just try to do as much ahead of time as possible because of my inconvenient schedule. I’m buying at least 1 bomber and 2 german subs in the med. Not going to let you keep Italy down without a tremendous fight. Those are the absolute best kind :).


  • In my exuberance I forgot to save the file before attacking. I got 7 hits in 97, you have one thing left. What shall it be? I bought 1 bomber, 2 subs, 1 tank, 1 mech, 7 inf, 3 art. Attacking normandy (2 tanks 1 mech) and yugo (4 tanks 4 inf). Your massive 97 stack saved Russia for a turn… :(.
