2nd edition board using G40 pieces and 1942 rules?

Can you buy and deploy units on the first turn? Because in the rules it says you collect income at the end of each turn, therefore you would have no IPCs to spend on your first turn. If you do start with IPCs and can buy on the first turn, how many IPCs do you start with? Is it the number printed on the set-up cards? Or would it depend on the territories you have under your control at the start of your first turn? Example, USSR on his turn has taken some German territories worth 4 IPCs in total. Would Germany therefore start with 40-4=36 IPCs?

Germany (and the others) start with the money printed on the setup charts. At the end of its turn (after it places the units it purchased with its starting money) it receives income based on the number of territories it controls and their value. So, if G has 36 worth of territories, it will receive 36 IPC that can be used on beginning of its next turn to buy more units.

Actually, Germany starts with 41 IPCs instead of 40; the UK with 31 IPCs instead of 30.

These inaccuracies really bother me because ANYONE involved in the production of this game could have caught them before printing… but didn’t take the time to. Really careless work, and misleading for new players.

In fact, the rulebook as a whole seems largely geared towards an existing player base, rather than carefully explaining gameplay in a methodical fashion to beginners. Things could easily be laid out in a much more logical and intuitive fashion; once again, Wizards misses a trick.

I have Revised (2004), and I will be getting 1942 2nd Ed.  Because the Revised map is pretty much the same as 1942 1st Ed., I figured I could just play 1942 on the older board. I have the instruction book PDF. I also saw the set up info on the Resources page, but I was wondering if any of the members here actually made their own cards or if they have a really good scan of them or something like that (I would be printing them out and laminating), because let’s face it. I just have no skill doing that kind of stuff.  Thanks  =)

First time on the the site, but I’ve loved what I’ve seen so far! There is a lot of great strategic advice, especially at the beginning of the game.

I was wondering if anyone had an picture of the game with all of the pieces placed prior to the first turn.  It would be great to be able to see the board and pieces in place, so I can envision the moves and see what the opposing players might try.  Maybe it’s because I’m a noob, but  I haven’t been able to memorize the board at the start yet.

Any help would be much appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

It seems to me that the map for Spring 1942 is a considerable upgrade compared to the classic edition.  It allows for much more variation in strategy and is more accurate physically.  The exception to this is in North America, they just added central US worth 6 IPC’s (which makes sense… few games come down to tactical decisions in that area).

Anyway I’ve sketched a proposed alternate North America, and am considering rendering a full size replacement map to include the alteration.  I’d very much like to get some input from more experienced players before I spend the time and money creating the board.

The thing is I can’t figure out how to add the image to a post.  Describing it in text would be ineffective and maddening all around.  Please help!  I can email it.  But I understand that reasonable people might not want to open an attachment from a stranger.
