Question about artillery supporting infantry??

In the case of the attacker, yes.  A friendly destroyer must be “in the battle” in order to affect subs.  Since allied units don’t attack together, the only friendly destroyers in the battle will belong to the attacking power.

The defender, however, will benefit from destroyers belonging to an ally, since all units in the sea zone defend together in a battle.

Alright, I guess that’s the major flaw of my play, not threatening West Russia enough.

I guess I’d probably too freaked out by the large infantry stack that can amass to 30 units by G5/G6 every single time I play. :X

followup on question #2:
It appears that sea vessels can choose to engage the Sub, but it can just submerge and immediately disengage at the defender’s option (unless there’s a destroyer present, natch).

That would mean that the attacker was denied both an opportunity on the sub, but since they attempted to initiate a sea battle they also couldn’t do a bombardment.  Right?  So if you want a guaranteed chance on a sub, you need to have a destroyer accompany.  Or ignore the sub altogether, and suffer their attacks next round-which would be brutal, because a sunk defender couldn’t respond.

I don’t see any problem applying the individual victory rules from Revised to 1942.  However, I agree with Tekkyy that it’s probably better done later on.  I also believe that the individual victory rules from Classic are better.  In those rules, the individual winner is the player that increases his/her IPC total by the highest percentage, rather than by the highest number.

The spreadsheet comparing the Revised and Anniversary rules can be found here as well.  As Tekkyy mentioned, there are only very small differences between the Anniversary rules (though you also need to read the errata) and the 1942 rules, once you get past the absence of Italy and China as separate powers.
