Both Hospitals and Ships are off limits to enemy fire. They can move in either the combat or non combat movement phase but not in both. You could move your hospital out of an enemy occupied territory and keep moving once per turn until you have it where you want it. They never are lost. For example, when China has lost it’s last man simply move the hospital down to India or the Middle East where your Ally can use it.

Those particular 12 sided dice work perfectly because of the symbol on them to mark a 12. It looks like a red cross symbol. You can get a set of them here;

The reason I started the game with hospitals already is because they would have had these heading into a war, not waiting until someone got shot to think of buying some bandages. Also, I didn’t want to take any money away from the game that could be spent on weapons. I thought that most players wouldn’t bother buying them because either they couldn’t afford it ( like China) or they would just rather buy tanks so it would be a waste of time to make the rule and buy the pieces.

So have we come up with a solution to the purchasing problem? Or do I just bin it all and teach my 9 year old 42.2 or 50? I’d love to make this version work as it would be great for a pub battle. I’m tempted to do the +1 to every territory.

IMHO, 1941 is more a learning tool to introduce people to the game than a staple of the series. Once someone has the basics down, you’d be better-off moving-on to either 1942.2 or the new Anniversary Edition, then you don’t have to worry about “fixing” the money issue in 1941.

Well, I agree with your assessment of the games and will do so with my son. But we don’t always have time for the larger games so I was looking for a way to get more purchasing power into a small quick game. I like the simplicity of this one over, say, Revised. It takes a lot of the “level 2” rules out which is great for him. But I want him to explore more complex buys.

ossel, in 1 of my games I do have Light infrantry. There is a cap on how many per country and the A and D is lower than Reg. infrantry.

I will have to look at rule again if your interested in values. I’m guessing there like ( D12 )  A 1, D 2, M 1, C 2.

All these extra dice just completely change the game. Large battles are gonna mess up the Soviets because they can’t really afford a “combined arms” thing.

The whole benefit should be one of movement: 2 movers paired with 1 movers in NCM at 1:1 basis should all move two.

Combat should be toned down to this: 1 air, 1 armor, 1 Inf/Art/Mech gets one re-roll if missed. Don’t add more dice, just take the dice you got and possible re-roll.

However, the movement won’t change the game too much, like this 3 or less thing.

Besides, that idea was submitted by Larry Harris like 3 years ago and people shot it down then too. He considered it before AAP40 came out.

I don’t think the US could be charged for passing through the Suez, since they’d have to be at war to get there.

Hmmm, an interesting set of ideas.  I am planning to do the same, using the original Pacific and European games for my summer history class and historical gaming class.  I have some home rules for Pacific that I use, where I have increased the game to 6 players: the US, British India, Australia, the Netherlands East Indies, China, and Japan.  For the European Game, I am planning to add Italy, using the pieces from the Anniversary edition.  There will be theater commanders for the US and the UK in Europe and the Pacific, and a separate commander for Australia.

I do have rules for Lend-Lease, and also Lend-Lease certificates that I use.  I have modified the rules a bit for aircraft and shore bombardment, and Japanese Infantry are a bit harder to kill.  When I add Italy, it will have the option of changing sides during the game, or even staying neutral.  It does mean reworking the IPC for the Europe game, but such is life.  Should be interesting when it is finished.  I am also writing a combined rules set for the game.

I really like the Pro-Axis Argentinian rule.  It would be almost impossible to activate it. But still…

South America is such a large portion of the board with so many Military and Historical “what ifs”.  Sad to leave it without this interesting possibility.
