College has become for the larger part an overblown, overpriced trade school. It is no longer a place to get an education but to get ‘trained.’

What do you think about (UT) Texas signing a mult-million dollar deal with ESPN for it’s own television network? I beleive it was 300 million.

I thinks it a matter of time before most teams realize just how much money is out there for grabs. This will change college football.

This is the first I’ve heard of it but it would certainly further explain the departure of Nebraska to the Big Ten and Colorado to the Pac 10. The precedent had been set previously with Notre Dame and NBC. This though would be very different from the perspective of Texas is not an independent and plays in a conference. I’ll have to look into this more sometime this week.

There wasn’t a need for it. In Div 1 college football the champ has always been ‘mythical.’ The result of a vote. No. 1 rarely played No. 2 in the Rose Bowl or Orange Bowl although No. 1 might be playing in the Rose Bowl and No. 2 in the Orange Bowl.

I don’t have much preference either way, but I find it a ridiculous topic to spend so much time on.  People will complain about the system no matter what.  Look at the NFL this year and complaints about a team with a better record not making it to the playoffs compared to another team with a crappy record in a really weak division.

And thats all I will speak of the Dallas Cowboys, I’m still in shock about this year.

Coming from another long time (casual) Cowboy fan, I’m not in shock that Romo choked once again when it counted.  And yes, I put the majority of the blame on him.  Had the offense been good, the minor problems the defense had would not have been so painful.

I think that would make sense.  A team playing well throughout the season will get honors and benefits (home field advantage, first round bye, etc.) that should assist them/reward in the post season.  I know it’s more pronounced in the NFL, but it does exist to a degree in college.

But really, the season has to end at some point, and you couldn’t crown a champ midway or even before the last game.

Thanks for bringing up the reputation of the Catholic church, this is another good point regarding this topic.  Consider the following:

Shanley said he particularly objected to one tale that uses religious language to describe a sexual encounter between a woman and a teenage girl. While the teen narrator describes the episode as “a kind of heaven,” Shanley said it’s “abusive, exploitative and morally wrong.”

How is this not glorifying pedophelia?  I think Shanleys description is fitting if the tale is true…and I have no reason to doubt it since the supporters of the VM showing do not deny this.  Aside from the fact that pedophelia is clearly inappropriate regardless of the situation, with the recent problems the Catholic church has had with this lately I gotta ask:  Why on earth would anyone even remotely associated with the Catholic church allow something with this kind of statement?  To allow a production with something like this would add to the criticisms that the catholic church does not take pedophelia seriously.  And if the Catholic church is serious about dealing with their problem in this area, would not the banning of the VM be at least a start?

I’m not buying the arguement that banning the VM is indicative of not addressing the problem – I think not banning it would show they aren’t addressing their problems.

If you qualify for financial aid, the expensive private colleges may actually be quite cheap. For example, I’m paying 36 per year, but my girlfriend is paying like 6, 10 in Student loans, and the rest is paid by the school.

It was actually cheaper to go to PC than URI for her.

The dems will broadcast love for their party without bothering to vote for it? Is America the only nation where this makes any sense?
