@Marty-R It depends on the situation:

Scenario 1:
A carrier with planes (same power) is the attacker: In this case the carrier and the planes move independently, so the planes are already in the air while the carrier moves. So the carrier does not actually carry cargo when it is hit. However the planes can’t land on a damaged carrier and need to spend their remaining movement points to (hopefully) land.

Scenario 2:
A carrier with planes (friendly power=“guest aircraft”) is part of the attacking force: In this case it is only the carrier that moves, as the friendly planes are cargo. In case the carrier is hit only once the planes are stuck on the carrier until it gets repaired, as they can’t launch from a damaged carrier when it is their turn.

Scenario 3:
A carrier with planes (either same power or friendly power) is the defender: When the carrier is attacked the planes are considered to be defending in the air. So the carrier does not actually carry cargo when it is hit. So when the carrier is hit, the planes need to search for an alternative landing place within the range of 1 space. (This is @koala 's above scenario.)

By the rules planes are only considered being cargo when they are on a friendly power’s attacking carrier (“guest aircraft” - scenario 2). And cargo simply sinks with the carrier, there is no extra move.

The Germans have no destroyer present, therefore the defending air units can not hit the sub, and of course the sub can never hit planes. Think of it in terms of the combined arms rule, air units can only hit subs if they are combined with at least 1 participating destroyer, the difference with this particular combined arms is that it works while attacking and defending. In the scenario that you described, the sub would destroy the remaining transport without rolling and the defending fighters can do nothing.

I don’t mean to complicate things, but if you play with techs and get the “Advanced Artillery” tech, each artillery can boost 2 infantry, 2 mech infantry or one of each up to an attack value of 2.

Buy Euro & pacific games. download the Alpha+2 rules and objectives and set ups,  play both OOB and the Alpha+2 using the global rules for the OOB and the Alpha+2 rules for the other set up. I think you’ll see the diff.

Be careul not to step in that.

Since the U.S. does not start with one of the objectives: (5 of the 7 islands one) They are likely to collect 77….then factor in that when they do take one of the islands to get the 5, they typically have lost the Philippines objective, so they will be at 75-77 (if they have Brazil). I haven’t seen them reach 82 in 4 games of Alpha 2.

NO’s aren’t collected before the game; otherwise, UK Europe would start with 34 ipcs, not 29.

UK is splt because is Empire was stretched around the globe. Money from Canada and UK and Africa more easily reach UK than India. On the other hand, the US in contingent and well connected by railways
