    The Fallschirmjager are decent - solid units but nothing spectacular.

    The Elefant is even worse the the Jagdtiger, which is pretty bad itself.

    The Panhard is very nice in early games, but quickly replaced by the Humber.

  • Very happy w/ the Fallschirmjager. Simple 5/5 para w/ a decent attack. No superhero abilities to get in the way of good tactics. Same reason I liked the Defiants.

    Now the Germans can play on an equal tactical footing.

    Fallschirmjager is a pretty solid peice… expectations were a little too high… hell if it was better of a ss pg we would have problems!

    Panhard isnt too bad… but interesting


  • Why does the Elefant have an anti-infantry value?  Last time I checked, it has no defensive machine guns.  Kinda hard to fight foot soldiers at close range with an 88mm gun.

    True, but it’s likely the crew might have a gun or two to defend itself with.

    You are correct.  Something I think the Germans could use is some decently armored units that have Transport.  I have heard DL talking about Red Army Forward Observers being transported by KV-1s; the Germans do not have that ability as of yet.

    The Elefant, it seems, is almost exactly the same as the JagdTiger, except that it trades “Prone to Breakdown” for “Tall Silhouette” and slightly worse AT rolls.  That seems a little better than the JagdTiger, because even though I’ve never used one, the possibility of it not being able to move scares me.


  • Prone to Breakdown makes a bit of a difference, but not all that much.

    Consider that your opponent will usually try to keep attacking your vehicle until it’s destroyed. Once your opponent gets that first disruption on it (most likely from the rear) they will keep hammering on it until it’s destroyed. It’s very likely they’ll continue to hit the rear defence, now 5, each turn meaning you’re not going anywhere anyway; Prone to Breakdown becomes irrelevant.

    However if they manage to score two hits the Elefant has no chance of avoiding damage, while the Jagdtiger at least gets a 1-in-3 chance of avoiding damage if it has cover. Now it’s true that if you’ve put your Jagdtiger in a bad position your opponent can simply leave it alone now; try to avoid that.  Otherwise the Elefant is much much easier to destroy, and it still has bad AI dice and -2/-2/-2 AT dice compared to the Jagdtiger.

    Prone to Breakdown may seem bad, but I’ve seen more often than not, that it doesn’t make a difference. The opponent targetting the unit will keep hammering away at it regardless; as long as he keeps hitting it will be disrupted


  • Playing without a turret is just plain dangerous anyhow. Jags are scary until they can’t hit you and, as was stated, can’t move. Then they’re just bricks.

    I used Brit Paras to kill a vet Tiger and it killed one or two of them in the process, thus could defend itself even if only for a little bit. In some battles, that little bit is all that matters.
