Naval Combat Sequence Question

Is this sequence correct? My question regards when the casualties from sub fire are removed, if the order should be as it is or 3-5-4-6

Before Combat

1. If there are no Defending destroyers present, Attacking subs can submerge or fight.
2. If there are no Attacking destroyers present, Defending subs can submerge or fight.
   (Surprise Strike)
3. If there are no Defending destroyers present, Attacking subs perform their Surprise Strike.
4. Defender chooses the casualties from the Surprise Strike.
5. If there are no Attacking destroyers present, Defending subs perform their Surprise Strike.
6. Attacker chooses the casualties from the Surprise Strike.
7. All casualties from Surprise Strike are removed immediately from the battle without firing on the next steps.
   General Combat
8. Attacking Units fire (if there are Defending Destroyers, Attacking Subs are included on this step instead of step 3)
9. Defending Units choose casualties. Aircraft can’t be taken as casualties for Sub hits and Subs can only be hit by aircraft if there’s an Attacking Destroyer present.
10. Defending Units fire (if there are Attacking Destroyers, Defending Subs are included on this step  instead of step 5)
11. Attacking Units choose casualties. Aircraft can’t be taken as casualties for hits made by Subs hits and Subs can only be hit by aircraft if there’s an Defending Destroyer present.
12. All casualties from General Combat are removed.
    Press Attack or Retreat
13. If there are both Attacking and Defending Units still present (not submerged), Attacker chooses between to continue the attack or retreat.

The defending (and attacking) Surprise Strike casualties are always removed at step 7, whether they’re subs or not.  The difference is that the subs will get to fire (in step 5) before they’re removed (in step 7) if there are no opposing destroyers.  If there are opposing destroyers, the subs will be removed before they can fire, just like everything else.

The defending (and attacking) Surprise Strike casualties are always removed at step 7, whether they’re subs or not.  The difference is that the subs will get to fire (in step 5) before they’re removed (in step 7) if there are no opposing destroyers.  If there are opposing destroyers, the subs will be removed before they can fire, just like everything else.

Did you say that right?

I thought if my side (country) has destroyers, then the enemy subs have no surprise first strike.  There for that bolded portion should read:

If there are friendly destroyers, the defending subs will be removed after they can fire, just like everything else.

If I understand this correctly, this is changed from the revised naval combat sequence.
In Revised, defending subs could ‘absorb’ surprise strikes in the sense that the defending sub would still get to shoot it’s defensive shot.

According to the sequence listed here, this is no longer the case.

It depends on whether or not the defending subs get a Surprise Strike.  If the do, they will still fire if they’re hit by the attacker’s Surprise Strike.  If they don’t, they’ll be removed before they can fire.

This is a change from Revised.  In Revised, subs always fired at the same point in the combat sequence.  The difference the presence of enemy destroyers made was when the casualties were removed.  In Anniversary, subs actually fire at different points in the combat sequence depending on whether or not there are enemy destroyers.
