what Hobbes is saying is 100% true. But, where tanks become a real problem for the allies is on Persia. Stack 8+ there and use German force to open Kazhak. Even if the Allies know to look for it, the mere threat of it is often enough for them to give up the Caucausus complex.
Transports=gunboats

on a side note, why do trannies have a defense of 1?
My main question though, how different do you think the game would be if transports had no defense value?
seriously, i think the game would be alot different.
-
of course the game would be different :-o
as would every game if you give a unit a defense or attack point less or extra…
8-)
-
Because they are moddled on the Liberty Ships, and they were armed.
Not armed for serious naval combat (no attack value), but they had guns they could use in a pinch (thus the weakest possible defense roll)
-
The Liberty Ships typically had a few(2-4) 20mm cannons (made by Westinghouse) and perhaps a 5in cannon.
When the armarment is compared to any other unit in the game, I believe a ‘1’ is generous.
-
But just like 1 INF is not a single soldier with a M1, neither is a TRN a single Liberty Ship. Assume a small number of convoy escorts and a large number of ships and you have the defensive value of that CONVOY that is represnted by that 1 TRN unit.

I think it’s kind of dumb to discuss how realistic this game is, because thats the point this game is a GAME. Things were made the way they were in this game to make it more balanced. If this game was made in complete realism it would be no fun, because everyone one would know the outcome.

and besides trannies with a 0 defense would be sitting ducks. Why not attack something that cant defend themselves? Its like taking planes to attack subs. You have nothing to lose so why not?
-
besides,
If they had a defense of zero, I wouldn’t by manny trannies at the price of 8 IPC, it would just be to expensive when you would need to buy additional destroyers to defend against all those lurking bombers just waiting to make that move.Regards,
