A number of countries have complained that some of their problems are our fault. Some countries, including the aforementioned, ask/beg us to help. Then, if we help, they often complain that it was wrong/not enough.
I’m sure some of you can think of some examples of this.

What can we do? Do what we did in Somalia with the Marines in 1992 and 93. Go in, deliver any goods needed, and help people. We should not do what followed, leave the Humanitarian missions to unarmed people and used the armed people to go after the local dictators.
We could help build up Africa. We could share our technology and farming knowledge. We could help build power plants, phone lines, and dams. We could work together with the rest of the world in a united force against extreme poverty.
Military Action is not always the answer.
The best way United States can go about is to promote Communism around the world.

America is too conservative and too individualistic… Even france, which have some radical-socialist as president in the third republic, would not be able to build a communist state; too occidental…
We are VERY far from a communist state, we are in an era of indivudualistic value, people think first for themself…
Naturally, I don’t expect communism to take root in the US. Though the neccessary production, resources, and technology is there - we still have a ways to go in educating the masses.
However, if you are asking what America has to do (“Saving the World” is VERY far from happening - almost impossible for one country alone), this is the answer I would give you.
Why is it the job of America to save the world? I can understand giving a helping hand to those that need it, but where does it end?

i think they should stop interfering with all this stuff, as soon as the finish somewhere it’ll pop up again on the other side of the planet. america’s done some good stuff but hey, i think they should leave it to the countries that are fighting should do the fighting.

It is our duty as the strongest nation to help people out. We are, directly and indirectly, accountable for many of the world’s woes. Europe sees this, that continent is sorry for the imperialism it has caused. We need to stand up and help. We enjoy argueably the best standard of life in the world. I believe in Karma. We help people, we get help back.
How do we do it? By going where it matters. Rebuilding East Asia and Africa. Helping spread education and democracy. Not wasting time and energy doing something that is going to hurt people more than help them. What we did in Afganistan was great, but we need to follow that up. Japan has spent more money rebuilding the country than us, and we pledged we would make that country a better place to live.
We need to lift trade embargos on country’s like Cuba. That would help the people of Cuba considerably. We’ve done a lot of good in Russia, helping convert their economy away from communism.

I don’t think it’s up to America to save the world. It’s up to the countries with the wherewithal to forgo politics and consider that eventually the money will come back to them.
I don’t believe any country will become impoverished by helping another.
We also need our gov’ts to invoke appropriate consultation measures - to avoid wasting valuable resources in places that don’t need them, or are going to feed armies.

I agree, the Kurds would love us to come and fix their problems.

Wrong. When we help people, we get nothing but crap. We get complaints about how we didn’t do enough or went about doing it the wrong way. Seems pretty selfish to me.
Yanni, I would agree that it would be the moral thing to do. But politically, I don’t see it working for us. As T_6 mentioned, there are many problems that will not be solved by America dumping money into it. There are many other problems that cannot be solved by America, no matter how hard we try.
We get dumped for helping where it is not needed, or helping by trying to kill someone and not worrying about people. If we concentrate on clear cut goals, we can help the world. Wars like Iraq are the problem, thats where the international community starts to hate us. We had plenty of support in Afganistan.
Actually, the UN itself said that “Unless Saddam is 100% disarmed, he poses a clear and present danger to the safety of the world.”
Is he 100% disarmed? I think not.
Did UN weapons inspectors help with that process at all? I think not.
Now, if the US was to sit back and not do anything about Iraq, and Saddam attacked Israel or gassed the Kurds again, who do you think would take the most criticism for being passive? You guessed it…
It’s a lose-lose situation for the United States regardless of what we do.
