• Simple enough F_alk, our election process is fatally flawed. Some people (Like Senator Mccain, and the late Senator Paul Wellstone) are trying to change this. Problem is, the majority of our politicians out there are products of the money-laden system.

  • Falk, plutocracy, not pecuniacracy.

Davis blew a lot of money to knock Riordian behind Simon, because Davis knew he couldn’t win against Riordian.

Seven out of the 11 richest senators are Democrats, including the top three richest. Democrat Senators are more likely to have married rather than earned their money, versus republican senators. THe average donation to the republican party is $50.

  • YB, then explain to me why the main opposition to the Camp. Finance reform bill was Republican? The only republicans who initially supported it were John Mccain and his close following.

Look at it this way. Republicans get their funding from the Oil lobby. Democrats get their funding from Unions.

Also, keep in mind, almost every single Senator, to the man(woman…) is a Millionaire.

  • It’s so interestingto watch these American political debates.

  • I didn’t say that the Republicans weren’t money whores. I just dispelling the myth that the Democrats are not plutocrats.

Its true that business funding is something like:

    600 million Republicans

    450 million Democrats.

The Democrats don’t actually get a lot of money or power from Unions. Unions don’t have much membership or money, the working class doesn’t vote much, even witht eh Democrats trying to buy their vote (setting up voter registration things at welfare places and telling the people if they vote Democrat they will get a welfare raise).

They do get a lot of money from Rich TRial lawyers whom have helped raise the cost of healthcare via Democrat loopholes.

Why don’t we compromise? Both parties are garbage.

  • Exaclty Emugod.

But keep in mind. Republicans get most of their money from the Oil companies. Which is why they support projects like Drilling in Alaska (which will only increase our domestic supply by 2%), offshore drilling in Florida (hurting the local economies due to shutting down beaches because of pollution), slowing down our Nuclear energy program (Democrats also do it to apease the enviromentalists), and going to war with Iraq (second largest oil supply in the world).

Both parties have fatal flaws. And by the way, on the issue of Trial lawyers sewing for so much, if Doctors were trained and regulated right, the Trial lawyers wouldn’t have anything to sue for. I mean, imagine waking up with a sponge or some kind of medical tool inside you.

  • Can I see some figures for your oil mmoney statistics?

  • I’ll go find them, while I’m at it, lets see your figures on Democratic funding :)

  • @Yanny:

i understood it was crazy juries that are the reason for the massive (MASSIVE) judgments, and that Bush is actually trying to pass through a law to decrease judgements for “pain and suffering” etc.

Right now doctors pay up to $200 000 (US) for malpractice insurance. The problem is, they are paying into insurance companies which are a) paying for 9/11 still, and b) still trying to make a profit.

Mind you, i’m not sure how (and why) people sue in the states relative to Canada - here our premiums are much lower, and doctors are not sued nearly as often.

Actually the power of Unions are quite powerful indeed. And have a strong war chest too…

  • Which is why they support projects like Drilling in Alaska (which will only increase our domestic supply by 2%)

According to who? Where are you getting these stats from?

  • Mind you, i’m not sure how (and why) people sue in the states relative to Canada - here our premiums are much lower, and doctors are not sued nearly as often.

Don’t you guys also have a massive government healthcare system? Or am I thinkin of someplace else?

HA! Something like 1500 cases of doctor’s leaving instruments inside their patients. Now, I’m willing to wager that there’s ALOT more than 1500 suits out there for this kind of stuff. You actually think every suit against doctors are completely legitimate and worth that much money?

  • Yanny,

Slander: Liberal Lies about the American Right, Ann Coulter, CHapter Two.

And I got one fact wrong, eight of the eleven richest senators, including the top 4, are democrats, not seven.

  • Crypt, The reason for such big judgements is not because our doctors are bad but that the Democrats have left loopholes for multi-million dolar law suits. IT isn’t the suing that is driving it up, but HOW MUCH they can get.

Moses, what are you basing your powerful union theory on? Why do you think the government is more labor friendly in EVERY other industrialized democracy? Look up how much Unions give, look up how little workers vote, look at the fact that most working class Americans are not in Unions.

  • Moses, what are you basing your powerful union theory on?

You of all people know that a Union is not a non-profit organization… :-?

Why do you think the government is more labor friendly in EVERY other industrialized democracy? Look up how much Unions give, look up how little workers vote, look at the fact that most working class Americans are not in Unions.

    Read Fleecing of America.

BTW, Double posting again? You must be brilliant…

  • Baylor Briefs, Debate Team Negative, Book General Disadvantages to Changing US policy toward Mental Health Care, Page 18.

“Although some would argue that drilling in ANWR would decrease the United State’s need for foreign oil, the reality of the situation is much different. Early estimates of ANWR’s oil supply were inflated. If the United States were to make complete use of ANWR’s oil supply, it would only provide enough oil to decrease oil importation by 2%”

I doubt there is a source more objective than the Baylor Briefs, who provide the offical facts for the National Debate League. Bossk can back me up on that.

Now your source, I’d hardly call that objective.

    true
all “medical/hospital” services are paid for by the gov’t. You get the exact same medical care if you are a billionaire in Toronto as a bum in Winnipeg (at least in theory - the billionaire might get a private room . . . )

    that’s what i figured.
From what i understand some hospitals in the states go through massive hoops for things like making certain the correct drugs are handed out to the right patients etc.
As for the “leaving stuff in patients” line - i can’t see that happening here very often. When i’m in the OR the doctor does not have a chance to leave stuff in as counting tools and sponges is the nurse’s job - they take that VERY seriously.
