Thanks Mallery.
Should Japan re-arm?
-
You could look at the military as a police force.
Protected and defending those who can’t.Either way, I’m not talking about increasing the military so much as I’m talking about upgrading and maintaining.
-
above was me again
-
The Canadian Military is not really obsolete. They, like most smaller countries, aren’t planning to have to run a regional war. Instead, they have a fairly small very well trained special forces core.
-
Helicopters from 1960 not obsolete???
They can’t even afford proper uniforms.
They need an upgrade.
The only thing Canada has, that is anywhere near modern, are F-18s.You don’t have to plan on wars to keep a military modern.
Peace keeping is important, is it not.
Why not have Canada peace keep in other nations with swords and shields
I can’t imagine that being expensive……I don’t know where you getting this special forces thing from…
The units in Afghanistan were regular infantry.
I belive the division came from Edmonton.
In which case it’s the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry 1.
No special forces there… -
your wrong! Canada has specail forces, its the goverments best kept secret!
-
the Canadian light infantry AFAIK is as well trained as the American Rangers forces - thanks largely to co-operation with the British military.
And GeZe - i believe you’re referring to the Joint Task Force-2’s - the equivalent to the US Navy Seals - also molded after the British version. They are a well kept secret tho’. No movies, tv shows, very little news about them and the news that does come out simply refers to the unit with absolutely no specifics. It sounds like they’re quite handy tho’. . . . -
well 10 years of nobady knowing is pretty good
-
The Navy Seals went down the tubes pretty quickly as soon as the public started making movies about them. I suspect the same will happen soon with Delta Force. Hell, theres probably some other force out there more elite than Delta that we’ve yet to learn about.
-
Yeah… Terminators. :o
-
@21:
Yeah… Terminators. :o
LOL, in the future…

How did they go down the tubes?
They’re still just as deadly and effective as they’ve always been. Probably even more so.
PS: Does anyone know (quantity wise) if Russia has more nukes than the United States? I’m just curious.
-
the US has more nukes, russia is a bigger country
-
How did they go down the tubes?
Yah, I didn’t get that either. :)
-
The Navy Seals used to be the elite, the guys you call on when you want someone dead. They were the best trained and geared troops in the world. Offically, they did not exist. However, after widespread publicity, they were proven to exist. There old job was to do the dirty work, now that job is in the hands of Delta Force.
The Navy Seals really have no job in the modern army anymore. The Deltas kill people. The Rangers paint targets for smartbombs, and can hold their ground in a fight. The Seals however, they aren’t trained to fight a war. They are trained to go in, complete their objective, and get out. Delta does that now.
-
Uh no… the use of Navy SEALs is today just as great. Guerilla warfare, counter insurgencies, and covert operations are largely handled by SEALs… This is very important in modern “wars.” I’m sure SEAL team members would not like to hear their training and importance downgraded… :-?
-
I’m gonna have to agree with TG on this one. :P
The SEALS are definetely not as irrelevant as you make them out to be. Sure, I’ll agree that the Delta Force plays a primary role in certain operations, but neither the Rangers nor the Delta Force even come remotely close to possessing the aquatic expertise that the SEALS do. The SEALS can operate in pretty much any environment, unlike the other Spec-Ops who are usually dropped by plane in mass-quantities.
As far as I know, the SEALS were never meant to wage a small war on their own. In fact, I just talked to someone I know who was a Green-Beret. He said that the Rangers’ job is to go from Point A to Point B and kill everything in between. Whereas, SEALS have a primary objective they need to complete, and they do it in the most efficient way possible. (Hence the smaller operational teams that they use.)
I’m almost certain that the media glamorizing this outfit of Special Forces has absolutely no bearing on their efficiency or usefullness during war-time. :-?
Hell, theres probably some other force out there more elite than Delta that we’ve yet to learn about.
That’s an interesting point you bring up. Anybody read Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy?
-
I think that Japan shoudl rearm if they feel that it is needed.
-
I could care less if Japan re-arms or not. It’s not like N. Korea has the cojones to do anything with their nukes anyway, they’re just playing the International globalization market and are looking for a quick buck. Seeing money thrown around in front of my face would probably make me want some too.
Besides, it’s not that the US or UN care incredibly about N. Korea anyhow.
Look at the situation:On one side, Iraq and Iran > Lying, scheming, and US funded from the cold war. :-?
On the other side, N. Korea jumping up in the middle of the UN assembly, waving frantically, yelling “WE HAVE NUKES”… but get hushed down as Bush climbes the podium for yet another “DEATH TO HUSSEIN” rant.
Why is the US and UN so adament at seeing Iraq go down? It can’t have to do with that the Bush family holds stocks in an oil company…
NAAAAAAH! :roll:This world is driven by money, money comes from manufacturing, selling, and REFINING… Therefore, there’s money in Iraq, and the US wants it… BAD. Bad enough to start a war, terrorism’s just the reason. (A damn good reason too  )

Absolutely correct.

Canadian sketch comedy shows constantly make fun of how underfunded their military is.
Maybe the reason that the Candadian special forces are not well known is that they are cough undistinguished cough
