IMO the German Med fleet is one of the most overrated pieces on the board b/c in reality Germany cannot afford to send any troops from Europe anyway. The game is won or lost in Europe and Africa is merely a sidebar so to that end no great lengths should be taken to protect the German BB. A few exceptions are to send it to the WMed to threaten the Uk1 naval build so as to make them not build or waste a ftr to destroy a bb. However this assumes you have enough air to be able to attack all other units of the Royal Navy which is iffy at best. Another reason to spare the bb is by going to Syria on G1 along with a take of AES f/Libya this helps protect Africa and gives Germany a huge ipc boom going on into the game. However, its very difficult to say if Germany will be able to afford this in Europe without risking EEuro so in general I’d say that the best move is to simply kack the bb against the Med bb and concentrate air in the UkSz while using the transport to landgrab Cauc or whatever.

I took Brazil in my game against cameron. I dont think he was expceting that. The trannie is safe from any Allied planes and has a bb with it as an escort.

I think Brazil is the last thing Germany needs to worry about. If I remember correctly I’ve only seen somebody do it once (I was playing a very new person and could get away with it). Otherwise, despite the value of 3, it’s a waste of resources for Germany which is already strapped for troops.

How can you hold it. Who cares if you take it for 1 turn the US will just take it back and you are out of position for many turns. I am beginning to feel the same way about my Japanese attack on Alaska in the 4th round. The idea of diverting the US attention is worthy however holding these territories is impossible.

No one said anything about holding it. In my game against cameron, the point of taking Brazil is that he will re-take it, and divert an important trannie heading for Africa with it.

Changement is the key element. But in normal time i don’t see the point of taking Brazil.

I can not understand how Germany can trade a transport for an American transport. By going to Brazil you are essentially doing this. If you want to draw America’s attention do it with Japan.

Both works better. While Germany takes Brazil, Japan attacks Alaska and maybe even moves some transports to the Hawaiian sea zone to threaten Western USA.

I believe it is impossible for Germany to go after Brazil. A better case can be made for Japan but the US can easily evict you in 1/2 moves. It is pointless as you can not hold this territory. I would rather go afer Madacasgar as it is easy to hold and never threatened.

How can this be pulled off and what do you gain? This assumes the transport is lost and takes 2 turns to do even if you get there?

what you gain is- more IPC’s and distracting the US.
distracting the US and making it use its IPC’s is the most important-and the it only costs 14 IPC’s in wich you get back 3 so you have a net lose of 11 IPCs

By all means, if you think it’s worth doing than do it. I just don’t happen to think it is, but hey go ahead and play with it and see what it gets you.
