I personally like this idea, and love to see the inclusion of warlord armies in the interior and a special map dedicated to this scenario.
Thanks! :-D
In a global game you would really only need Inf, Art, and Fighter! IMHO
If, however, you combine it with an early-war Soviets set, there are so many interesting possibilities, esp. tanks & planes…
as long as they are for the communist Chinese and they are different from the soviet pieces i’m happy
I voted for Infantry, Artillery, Tank and Fighter. I don’t think the Communist Chinese had any of the other pieces. I’m not even 100% sure if they had fighters, but it’s possible.
As for the tank, they actually did have some Soviet T-26 tanks early in the war. I don’t think they had a good grasp of proper tank tactics so those tanks didn’t last very long against the Japanese.
T-26 would be really nice for Communist Chinese. what would the fighter be?
Check out wikipedia. The Soviets armed the communists to the teeth early war. There were even Soviet volunteer fighter and bomber brigades similar to the Flying Tigers.

The fighter piece would be the I-16

Neat choice!

Yes that is a good choice!
will you also use the I-16 for Spanish fighters
Well, seeing as this is also intended as a general-purpose pro-communist set, it could also serve quite well as the nationalists in a “Spanish Civil War” scenerio. Which makes me think: the Axis minors set needs a fighter!
Infantry (communist and nationalist sculpt, artillery and fighter (Curtiss P40).
is the communist Chinese sculpt going to be different from the nationalist ?

Yes, the sculpts will be different.
Probably Russian pieces.
If we give the Red Chinese figure an early-style Soviet helmet, it could also fill in quite well for Republican forces for the Spanish Civil war and various other pro-Soviet forces, as helmets like the M-36 Kaska were widely issued to the Spanish Republicans and others using Soviet gear!
