I was hoping for a general concensus… You all play a lot more than me and I dont have time to be playtesting.
:?
there’s not a general concensus. Many opinions vary on USA income and Russia.
@UN:
Do you want British forces to be on the board and Britain itself a off-board area, or would you prefer Britain to be on the map and also be divided?
You pose a good question. If the UK were to not be on the board, then the action can be more focused on the Continent. However, on the other side, it would also be interesting if a Sealion mission could happen if the players wanted the game to go longer.
Perhaps do a “Early War” game: all of the map is of Europe (and Europe only, no Africa or Atlantic or Middle East). The players can do three scenarios: German invasion of Poland in 1939, the Norwegian Campaign in 1940, and the Invasion of Western Europe in May 1940.
Understand these are all broad concepts, of course. I can defiantely see this being fleshed out somehow.
Well, miniatures AA already has “Early War,” but they just used early war weapons on a board representing a space smaller than any territory on a global map.
I am intrigued by your idea. You could also do Battle of Britain, D-day, Battle of the Bulge, Market Garden, and the invasion of West Germany on such a map.
Although I didn’t vote battle of Britain, having an air focused game with a larger variety of planes and goals such as attacking radar installations/airstrips/and cities might be interesting.
I would love to see a dedicated ‘Axis & Allies - Operation Barbarossa’, set in June 1941. I therefore voted “eastern front in general” although I have been patiently waiting for a Stalingrad game for a long time. I don’t think we will see one though due to the scale of the conflict in that area. So, it would be cool to have a huge ostfront map with victory cities like Kiewv, Minsk, Odessa etc as well as oil fields of Caucasus. I expect this game could have a closer (or more zoomed-in) scale and therefore we could have units like Tank Destroyers, SPGs etc.
Battle of the Atlantic would be cool I think. I’m imagining hordes of German subs pitted against UK destroyers with US support all along the four continents bordering the Atlantic. It could even perhaps include Canada. :wink:
Create commercial ship pieces, add in sub pens/naval ports, figure in the air support, with battles around the sea ports off the European coast, the African colonies, and North and South America. Victory could be based off of number of convoy ships sunk vs. successfully escorted to UK, or even a Sea Lion takeover. 8-)
@UN:
The German invasion of Western Europe in 1940. Benelux, Britain, France, and Germany will be the main powers, and as a special rule, German units, representing Italy, can attack late in the game if the appropiate conditions come up.
I added France to the list since I think many would like to see it
Why would you do another game in the French area. Like there’s been two already.

I really, really, really like your idea for the first, one, but the what color would they be!
Also I don’t think there shouldn’t be one in south east Asia, when there’s already one in Pacific same goes with the East Front.

You mean d-day and bulge?

That makes no sense.

I wouldn’t and I met shouldn’t I’ll fix that.
I think Stalingrad would be awesome.
However, as the Americans didn’t participate in that battle I don’t think WOTC will bother with it.

I also think because Russia never had a spin-off and the US has been in all of the Axis and Allies games, I think that should happen, and that would be fun.
A Mediterranean Theater game would be great. It makes me chuckle when I look at Revised and see no Sicily, let alone smaller islands such as Sardinia, Corsica, and Cyprus. A Mediterranean game would allow so much more depth and actually utilize important UK possessions in the Med.

dunno, I don’t like the idea of a naval game.
Thing is, this wouldn’t have to be exclusively a naval game. Large North Africa land campaigns, plus air power, plus a melting pot of convoys, ships, and planes duking it out in the sea.
Kursk and El-Alamein are my picks. These games would use a modfied version of the BOTB rules.
Stalingrad would be a hard one to do since it lasted forever. Rules similar too Gaudacanal would have to be used.
I also really like the Battle of France idea, particularly if it came with new French and German tank molds.
I dont like the mini-front ideas. It would just blowup sections of the current game but not any of the tactical or opertional considerations that a battle/campaign focused game would have.
Also how about a good computer version of A&A with online multiplayer and modding tools.
Good online A&A? Try Triplea
Good online A&A? Try Triplea
I wouldnt call Triplea good, its so basic. The graphics are 2d and there is no music. The controls and interface could be better too. There is a difference between functional and good. The AI is terrible aswell if you want to play against bots. Playing triplea dosnt make me feel like I am commanding a nation at war like the board game does. It should have a more WW2 atmosphere and not just the raw mechanics of A&A.
Battle of the Atlantic would be neato. But would we visit the river plate? When would it start? What kind of victory conditions are we looking at?

I couldnt agree more!! I used to love playing the orignal A&A pc game. When Pacific and Europe came out years ago I was waiting for a pc game to follow. I think with the new Europe and Pacific games out it would awesome to see a Global PC game for them like the original one.
