• been a loooong time since i bought a dvd.  and one worth $25 is like a christmas gift.  but an a&a game at 25 bucks…ok i might (probably) buy.  even a crappy a&a game(d-day?) is better than most movies.  if nothing else, i just paid 30 bucks for more pieces for my aa50 game.    :-D

  • I’d love to buy one just for pieces, but the expensive shipping costs is killing

  • LuckyDay pointed out in another thread that AA42 is available at Target.  Check your local store online to see if they have in stock.  I picked up two from the Target in Aiea (Hawaii).  You may need to ask the toy department clerk as it was not on stock but they had it in the basement.  The box is really small compared to all the AA games, most of the box is filled by a carboard setup to make it look bigger than it should be.  Each box has 4 units in it.  The Aiea Target only had one box (4 games).  Hurry while it lasts.

The quality of the pieces are nice!  The armors feel heavy and reminds me of AAE.  The rulebook is easy to read and revamped.  Great job Krieghund!

  • @FieldMarshalGames:

I always liked the idea of having money…  sometimes you can save a buck here and there for need in the future.  Also, if you have to leave a game in our group we just put our IPCs in our pcs containers and come back later.  We have never used the IPC marker boards included because any regular player can calculate IPC value at a glance…

Its just my opinion…  but I like having the money.

Today is a sad day for me, now I don’t have this game to look forward to.

Hey Field man- I like the new AA50 dice- will buy some soon- but now with AAE40 and AAP40 out you will have to make dice for the French and maybe the ANZAC powers.- can’t wait for those too. :-)

  • Wow so many of you knocking a game you haven’t even tried?

First off this game is a fantastic value for the money in my opinion. I got mine for under 30 dollars delivered! I have AA50 and it costs 3x more but you don’t get 3x more game.

AA42 doesnt have IPC’s  Ok that stinks.  There is a huge row of markers that go very high that you should have no problem adjusting up and down as you buy a unit, repair, collect and just adjust for remainders. I dont even see why you would need a paper and pencil.

The pieces are a little shy in some areas (I see japanese tanks as being too few)

I like the new map I think its better than revised.  USSR really has alot of options in AA42/revised as to what they can do in their first turn unlike in AA50.  The map is a decent size but could be bigger on some territories for sure. Still no worse than revised.

I would have liked more unique sculpts but whatever it isn’t important to gameplay.  The new rules include the optional escort/interceptor rule which I think is great.  They should have been in AA50 rulebook as well imo.

If an upgraded version of revised for 30 bucks with AA50 ruleset doesnt make you happy keep playing crappy old revised with your transport fodder navies and cookie cutter gameplay.  I see this one as being alot better than that.

  • Welcome to the forum Pariah,

It’s because most people had higher expectation for AA 1942 than the actual game.

I personally like the new sculpts, it’s heftier!

I like the map also but not the map size, it’s too small, try to setup the board and you will know what I mean.

Also the borders for Europe are hard to tell.

The AA50 rules and costs are great.

It’s just that there was no news about AA 1942 only that new map, new sculpts, and new rules and everyone expected all the bells and whistles.  If WotC/AH had come out and said it was Re-Revised than people wouldn’t have expected much and not have been disappointed.

I happen to think this game is great and just waiting for a chance to try different strategy.

Germany can buy bmbs or 2 subs a turn to try to sink the UK/US fleet in the Atlantic!

US can go after Japan with subs and not worry about losing subs to air.

    Lots of possiblities.

  • I have my board setup at home now.  I dont think its too small really.

I do agree the borders should have been defined better though.

  • Pariah you have the board setup now do a round of purchase, you will find that Germany is too small, UK is too small!

    G1 purchase: 10 inf, 1 ftr or 8 inf, 1 art, 1 bmb.

The initial setup uses up most of the space, now if you add more units, there is less space.  Also when UK/US start landing in Europe it’s really hard to keep track of everything.  The bmbs are huge and takes up a lot of space.

  • @gnasape:

The bmbs are huge and takes up a lot of space.

Then dont buy bombers. Problem solved. See ?

I know I’m telling our group when we play that no bmbs due to space limitation.

    Thanks Aldertag!

  • The maps you guys provided on here are very nice.  However, I haven’t been able to find one with starting units placed at all.  It would be a nice reference when discussing strategy.  I’ve only played this version a few times so far so I don’t have starting units memorized or anything.

Has anyone seen a map with starting units placed on it (at least listed)?  or pictures/lists of the starting placement cards?
