    • RE: Who do you go for as Germany?

      @knp7765:

      Actually, I usually will buy a MINOR IC for Germany and put it in Norway.  Sometimes I will put a MINOR IC in Romania too, but it depends on how the forces are down there.  I find that the Major IC in Berlin is usually sufficient to supply both the southern drive and the eastern drive into Russia.  I need some tanks and mechs up north.  Usually that is the force that takes Leningrad along with air power and unless I have an IC up there, I have always found it hard to supply those troops, especially if UK is still in the game because they are harrassing my navy too much.

      I do this as well. Even if you don’t want to spend big money up there for an assault force, 3 inf a turn is cheap and VERY helpful. Germany needs Norway for an NO, and find that once you lose Norway, getting back is very annoying. A minor IC and 3 inf a turn means that Norway is substantially defended, and that UK or Russian will need a dedicated push if they want to take it.

    • RE: Das Boot!

      Even with good dice, Germany will still lose a good chunk of its sub fleet. So how do often do you guys replensih your U-boats? I hardly buy them because of the necessity of reinforcements on the Ost front.

    • RE: Das Boot!

      Is “U-boat Peril” the optional rule that allows U-boats to interdict at 3? If so, then yes. I always play with all official optional rules. Now all this game needs to make it perfect for me are some official, optional National Advantages.

    • Das Boot!

      I’ve played several games of global (perhaps 6 or more) I’m also always the axis  :evil: Anyway, every time I play, Germany loses most of its subs its first turn. Not a big game changer for me, since Germany can adapt so easily, and my style of play doesn’t utilize subs, but I still want to make the most effective use of U-boats as possible since that was one of Deutschland’s most famous war machines.

      This thread is for all your sub tactics you like to use for Germany (however any helpful tips for subs and the pacific, or anywhere for that matter, is totally welcome  :-D)

      I’m getting ready to start a new game with my father, but before we begin, I’m trying to develop the perfect sub strategy for my dear 'ol Kriegsmarine. What do you guys think as far as basic game tactics? Should Germany spread out their subs (as in just one per sea zone) to increase survivability? Or should Germany use wolfpack tactics?

      My idea right now is to take my starting sub fleet and send the majority near Africa to pester U.S./Brit naval movement. If their naval force is too overwhelming, then I’ll interdict African convoys and patrol for targets of oppurtunity. What do you guys think? I’m open to ALL suggestions. As a good commander should keep an open mind  :wink:

    • RE: Japanese Capture of DEI, suggestions?

      How do you guys divide your IJN fleets? Do you keep a majority North by U.S. or South by Anzac/India? Or do you try to keep them as evenly balanced as possible?

    • RE: So your life depends on winning a game of G40 ALPHA +2 …

      What if they bypass your Armada by sailing North around Scotland and hit London from from Sz 109. What do you have in London at this point…. 2 Brits and a Frenchman.

      So essentially, just two combat units  :wink:  Haha, sorry, but I just couldn’t resist taking advantage of such an obvious opportunity to take a stab at the French  :-D

    • RE: I almost pulled it off

      Just four. I wanted to use more, but the timing, and England’s persistence of interfering with my maritime activities forced me to reinforce my fleet with a carrier, as opposed to placing three more transports in Normandy. Also, Russia was built up to a very imposing force, but Germany starts with enough men to play defense on the Eastern borders, and if you devote all your ipc to land troops starting G3 you should still be able to push the russians back, because even if the attack on U.S. fails, the Western allies have been crippled so much you don’t need to worry about them for at least 3 turns (maybe 4)

    • RE: Technology rule question: Paratroopers

      Up to 2 inf per territory with an airbase can be sent to assist a land/amphib assault within 3 spaces of said airbase. There is no limit to how many airbases may do this, but they all have a range of 3 spaces. It is also important to note that the paratroopers are subject to AA fire as if they were aircraft.

      @mantlefan:

      @warwinner:

      I did it!! It was very close, and almost a failure, but it worked. America fell and the allies surrendered. America was undermanned because the player felt that England was the target until G3 (as has been stated) Also England did scramble on T1 so it’s entirely possible to take out the Royal Navy, but be prepared to lose most of your airforce.

      Japan took all of China, but England was going to push in and begin liberating them, however The U.S. had fallen so who gives a sh**  :wink:

      The only axis player who did poorly was Italy, with absolutely no territory in Africa, but enough ground units to hold mainland Italy no problem.

      Also, it’s important to mention that Germany had heavy bombers on G1 after buying just one research die, so luck WAS on MY side! In addition, I would like to give my respects to the man who posted this strat, as it is most definitely plausible and, if successful, will result in victory for the axis.

      Thanks for the breakdown! I’m sure it will be dismissed by some as only luck, but in reality this is a strat that is pretty good the first time you try it against a player. Even if they are experienced, that doesn’t mean they know from the outset to defend the US territories

      Exactly. This would be our 4th game of global so we are both pretty experienced. The main thing this strat has going for it is that no axis player in his right mind would risk the whole game going for the U.S. (much like no German Panzer Division would ever go through the Ardennes) the surprise factor of this move is invaluable. That’s why it will never work twice on the same player, but I guarantee that the first time you do this move, the allies will be utterly shocked.

    • Return of NA's?

      Does anyone else want to see NA’s make a comeback, even as just optional rules? Personally I’m hoping Larry will give us some we can use. It makes each power more unique and creates another layer of tactics to utilize. What do you guys think? Do you have any ideas for NA’s?

    • Pearl Harbor?

      I’ve played several games of Global now (all as the axis) As Japan my strategy has always been wipe out as much Chinese as possible and push for Calcutta, but has anyone tried for pushing towards the US? Not necessarily and invasion, but maybe crippling them by attacking their navy and island territories. Is there any benefit to attacking America early in a Pearl Harbor fashion? FYI, when I say Peal Harbor, I don’t necessarily mean attacking Hawaii, I’m merely referencing a full scale sneak attack.

    • RE: Closing the Mediterranean

      I recently played a game where I rushed to gibralter through Spain. I also attacked Turkey and Sweden with Germany. I eventually lost the game though. However, the decision to invade true neutrals was out of desperation as the axis were already in trouble, so I believe that if you build your strategy based on taking these neutrals as opposed to doing it on a whim, the axis can turn it to their advantage. So many more options become available with the geographical positions of these neutrals. That’s just my 2 cents.

    • RE: Larry's new tank rules for Global 1940 Alpha Beta

      I didn’t think it was too bad. I’m not going to criticized what I haven’t tried yet. However, if they are still tweaking the rules, they need to seriously consider bringing back National Advantages. They add much more depth to the game. At least make some official optional ones we can use, because my group only plays with official rules, so it would be nice if Larry gave us something we could use  :-D

      If a Chinese territory is liberated, and had an air/naval base in it, would it be removed like an IC would?

      Russia may enter Chinese territory after declaring war on the Axis Powers correct?

      Do heavy bombers roll 2 dice for SB raids? if so, do you use the sum of both dice, or just the highest of the two?

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      Thanks gamerman. I’ve been looking at a pic of the board online for hours and just got the idea to put a factory in Romania for the Germans and use a transport in SZ 100 to ferry men deeper into russia at a quicker pace.

    • RE: All Japan Strategies

      If they don’t take the bait, the only thing you’ve invested in is transports and an art, both of which can be utilized on the mainland. However, if they do take the bait, then this strategy should increase your chances of taking San Fran. I’ve used it on my father (a very experienced A&A player) The thing about this strategy is that you can NEVER use it on the same player twice, as a competent player will NEVER take the bait again. I made it basically as a one time shot. It’s easier to pull off in person, because it makes it easier to “plant” the idea in your opponents head. I appreciate the input though. The minimal protection for the transport to make the ploy more convincing is a good idea.

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      Question Krieg, If you obtain radar, do the benefits transfer over to the air defense of ICs and bases as well, or just the actual AA pieces? In other words, if I’m being strategically bombed, and I have radar, does my anti aircraft hit on a 2? I don’t have the rulebook since it’s a friends game, so that’s why I ask.

      Also, If Germany builds an IC in Romania, would it be an act of war against Turkey to produce sea units in SZ 100 if they don’t pass through the strait?
