No, attacking a colony has no effect on the parent country. For example, Spanish Morocco is a free pick up for France without any consequences.

RE: First game recap - a Central Powers victory
Why wasn’t Albania activated until turn 4. Did Italy just forget about it? Also, if Italy moved its fleet out, what kept Austria from venturing out.

RE: First impressions from first game
Tanks are pretty devastating and resolve the CP supply issues. Any particular reason you feel they are too weak. I almost feel that they could attack and defend at zero and still be worth it.

RE: First game recap - a Central Powers victory
For all the reasons you mentioned for the UK is why the Germans must build a navy.

RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread
It seems a lot easier to keep your marker where it is until the territory is actually taken, and you just subtract it during the collect income phase. Like convoy disruption except there is no dice rolling, you just don’t collect.
Not sure how that would be easier. Say AH takes Venice then Italy contests again. You will soon forget whose income you need to subtract from. Much simpler to adjust when it becomes contested and increase income when a territory is captured. Especially since some territories will remain contested for several turns.

RE: Rate AA1914
Subs can pass through hostile sea zones without having to stop. Cruisers do get an extra move. Shore bombardment doesn’t even happen that much since you can’t bombard a contested territory.

RE: Need input on how cp can win, or is it just sheer luck if they do?
how many territories did Germany lose while trying to take out Russia?. in a game i played i send both a large German force and most of the Austrians against Russia and i still could not take it had it to Moscow but could not defeat them as they can build there every turn right in the battle. The reason i ask how many territories Germany lost in the west is my line with France was secure the whole time, did not lose a German Provence, dose this mean i should of send much more Germans? i just find its hard to conceive Germany doing Russia in without Austrian help and still holding against France and Britain.
Well you can’t really take Russia with just Germany, you need all three hitting Russia.

RE: How is it?
@Hitlers:
How does it compare to G40?
Not nearly as long, all the powers have a major impact on the game and you have to plan your strategies further in advance. Naval combat is actually more frequent than in G40 as naval units aren’t nearly as costly to produce and subsequentially, mines aren’t as devastating.
Naval combat is more frequent? How so? There’s rarely any naval combat in the 1914 games I’ve played- one or two battles in the north sea/atlantic and one or two in the med… that’s it.
The CPs have little chance of winning if you don’t contest the seas. With how cheap battleships are, I buy one every turn with Germany.

RE: Can I amphibously reinforce a contested territory.
Yes you can. You are supposed to announce to the other players if you are making an amphibious assault (resulting in combat this turn) or an amphibious reinforcement (with NO combat in the contested territory this turn).
What’s more, if you do an amphibious assault, accompanying battleships can conduct shore bombardment and any defending artillery can take shots at your landing units. With an amphibious reinforcement, your battleships do not bombard and the defending artillery do not take shots at your landing units.Battleships and defending artillery do not fire if you are offloading to a contested territory whether you conduct combat there or not. They only fire if you offload to a hostile territory.

I am testing out a London/Rome strat at the moment.

RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread
Which a follow on question would be if you passed through a mined sea zone, then loaded and unloaded in an unmined sea zone but the transport hits a mine before it ever gets to the sea zone to load and unload.

RE: My 3rd playtest Turns 1-8 review
The biggest mistake I have seen is Germany contesting too many territories in the west. You simply can’t produce enough infantry to sustain that. I have found hitting hard through Belgium is effective while leaving Lorraine and definitely Switzerland alone.

RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread
A quick question:
A German transport leaves SZ 10 empty and enters SZ 9. It picks up forces from Belgium to amphibiously assault the UK. I know the transport rolls for mines, but what happens if there is a hit? The forces picked up from Belgium go down with it or are they stranded in Belgium since the transport hit the mine entering the sea zone empty.

RE: My 3rd playtest Turns 1-8 review
The central powers can’t win OOB with any strategies I’ve played. However I ended my first 2 games pretty early.
They can win OOB, I have played two games thus far, each side winning once.

RE: Why is Italy an allied power?
@Texas:
Who cares.
It could be a fun house rule, if the thought makes you irritated then obviously its not suited for you.How would you balance that out? The Allies would be crushed if the Italians joined the CPs without any other adjustments.
Who said anything about not making other adjustments?
Huh? I am asking what he is proposing to balance it out. What adjustments would he make to make the option work. I am curious to making it a possible way of playing it. My post wasn’t meant to shoot the idea down. I am having trouble seeing how you can make it where Italy decides once the game has begun. I can see two different setups for each variation, but I don’t see it being possible to make the decision once the game has begun since that would be a pretty big swing one way to the other.

RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread
Can income be collected from contested areas? If yes, what if a neutral area is attacked but left contested.
No, contested areas do not generate income.
-
RE: Has anyone bought a cruiser yet?
I was tempted to buy cruisers with Germany to get them around the British quicker to disrupt the American shipping lanes.
-
RE: Why is Italy an allied power?
Nah, Italy doesn’t need to be neutral a turn. It is already at the very end of the turn order. One could argue the end of turn 1 is already pushing into 1915 anyway. The Ottoman Empire goes one turn earlier and they entered the war late 1914. It makes chronological sense to me. Romania and Portugal can both be activated in turn one but they didn’t enter the war until 1916. This a board game based on World War I, not a simulation of World War I.

RE: Problems in the Russian Revolution
I don’t think it would be that easy for the allies to land in Karelia. Once the CP take Moscow, what’s left of their eastern forces can sit in Karelia since they are too far away to help in the west. Artillery fire would help secure the beach. German Navy in SZ 5 would also help as well. I think the bigger threat is from India.
