RE: How do you win as axis?
Being axis is easier in these newer versions than the previous classic versions. The three steps it takes America to get to Europe is a HUGE help to the Axis. But here is my Germany and i can win 5/10 games doing this. turn 1 buy all infantry YES all infantry then take out the allied navy with German navy and fighters/bomber. Consolidate all Eastern German forces in one territory. Turn 2 buy again ALL INFANTRY again. Move the Infantry you bought turn 1 west so you can defend against Normandy invasion also move your fighters with the infantry in the west. All the forces you consolidated retreat west closer to Germany don’t worry the German battering ram is coming. Turn 3 buy all tanks move the infantry from turn two east and consolidate all forces in the EAST. Turn 4 buy tanks move the massive consolidated force south never separate the infantry from the tanks. turn 5 move tanks from turn 4 south with the main force. Turn 6 Russia should be like OMG i cant kill that massive force you should be able to take caucuss now. With japan my goal #1 is to take India at all costs if Japan has failed to do this use the German army in Caucuss to take India now you can separate the tanks from the infantry to take India. Russia will take your infantry you left behind but that is fine and retake caucuss that is fine too . now Japan is free to take Asia at will, Germany should begin to pound Russia wherever avail and take easy territories do not commit to a suicidal battle to Russia. By now the Allies can pose a threat to Western Europe. But Germany and Japan should be collecting massive IPC’s Russia is doomed here in a few turns they just cannot deal with a mobile Japan and Germany and defend itself on two fronts. I see a lot of German players go north i do not agree with this becasue there is nowhere to break out like there is in the caucuss and also if Germany can break out into Asia they can knock the allies out of asia as well. with the defense boost tanks have now they are the most affordable attacker and blocker in one land unit and with some infantry cannon fodder they are nasty on offense and defense. I go mass tanks with Japan and Germany. If you cannot win with the Axis in the newer versions you are doing something wrong. Either not attacking enough or buying aircraft or navy. Germany really doesn’t need a navy and has enough aircraft to hold the whole game as long as you don’t loose them foolishly. On paper the Allies have the advantage by getting 3 turns to axis 2 and also should have an IPC advantage. But Germany is so massive early and it takes Allies 4-5 turns to begin to be effective that’s your window with Japan and Germany about 4- 6 turns after that Allies begin taking the game in their favor. So you must get your objectives done in this time frame. If you just turtle forever with Germany you will loose. And i f Japan leaves India for too long its hard to take especially if UK buys a lot of fighters.

Allied Norway stratagy
I hope this is the right section. Anyway i am thinking of a new strategy with allies. Basically goal # 1 is destroy German navy, then buildup UK and USA navy. Once the US & UK has a navy begin landing UK and US tanks in Norway. Use the US and UK tanks to attack Germany in the North while Russian Infantry and tanks move south. Meanwhile buying 1 bomber with US and UK here and there and Industrial bombing Germany using the thing where it reduces how many units can be placed in the territory. Once there is substantial tanks in the East allies can start hitting Western Europe once Russia is able to mount an offense against Germany by itself. Then Germany will be weakened and forced on a two front war with UK & USA hitting West. I have not tested this with another player yet but i have played myself. Seems like a strong strategy but Japan is so fast now in this version and that navy is so big. Japan and Germany can shake hands in the caucus and make things tough.
Thoughts comments welcome.
thanks,

RE: Allied japan first strategy
I see what you are saying. but Japan cannot fight the US navy, UK troops in Asia and the Russian infantry in far Soviet far east. Also the 1 fighter coming in from UK and America through UK pretty much boxes Germany in. If Japan decides to buy subs turn 1 just keeps more troops out of Asia. I tried playing against myself in triple A on classic map and Germany just cannot penetrate the fighters and infantry in Russia without Japans help, hence the plan to concentrate on Japan first. It really bogs the Axis down and prevents them from gaining IPC’s and allowing the Allied 3 turn advantage to win the game. But i would like to get some players together and develop the strategy turn by turn.

RE: Kursk: 9th army
I really think some of the most misunderstood parts of WWII was the Russian German relationship pre 1941. Russia allowed Germany to bypass the Treaty of Versailles by allowing Germany to research and develop its military there in Russia which the allies could not prevent this was not in the treaty allies could only stop this in Germany. Much of the technology tactics and the German war machine was built and tested in Russia post 1921 and pre 1932. On April 15, 1920, Victor Kopp, the RSFSR’s special representative to Berlin, asked at the German Foreign Office whether “there was any possibility of combining the German and the Red Army for a joint war on Poland”. This was yet another event at the start of military cooperation between the two countries, which ended before the German invasion of the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941. Then Germany convinced Russia to withdraw its defense forces in and around Poland to allow Germany to Share a common border with it’s under ground ally Russia. But when Russia began mobilizing large amounts of Military toward its coveted oil fields in SE Europe Germany began planning the first strike in 1941 fearing a Russian surprise attack Germany wanted to act first. I think alot of people do not realize Russia had a very powerful and advanced military pre 1941. But the scope of the surprise attack devastated the Russian air force and armor units. Russia lost 2,500 aircraft alone allowing German armor to roam free on Russian soil. If Germany would have leveled and bypassed Stalingrad and focused north i think the war would have been won by the Germans. Germany always seem to throw everything in these victory or devastation battles like Stalingrad, Kursk and later the Battle Of the Bulge, this put the Germans in a war they were not designed for and just could not replace these units like Russia and the Allies could. I think Hitler had one good say in the war as he did not agree on the battle of Kursk which all of his top commanders wanted to attack. I mean Russians were ready for Kursk and even were ready for a counter assault 60 miles away after the battle of Kursk. Russia wanted this to happen they began realizing how to beat the Germans by suckering them in these large long sustained battles in which constant reinforcements can beat the mechanized armies of Germany. And by 1943 they had air support to harass extremely long German supply lines. By then the German air force was a shadow of what it was pre 1943. By 1944 Russian air power and armor was even better than what the Germans had the yak-3 fighter and the t34 tank were great machines. In the end was it smart for Germany to attack Russia i think so the risk for Russia to enter the war on their terms was too great Russia could have done the same thing to Germany surprise attack and devastate the Germans while their back was turned to the UK. I think Stalingrad really took the wind out of Germany and Kursk broke Germany’s back. Germany should have leveled Stalingrad pulled out consolidated lines for the winter and attacked all out on Moscow in the spring. But even then i think Russia having moved its factories to the east and by now ready for an assault still could have made a “Stalingrad” at moscow. Russia is so big and far away im not sure it can be taken with that era of technology especially on 3 fronts of war Southern Europe, Western Europe and Eastern Europe. In the End what the Germans accomplished was amazing and we are all lucky we are not speaking German now. If Hitler would have let his Generals call the shots instead of throwing his Military in foolish battles with alot to loose and little to gain may have been different.

Allied japan first strategy
I have a new idea that i am sure has been discussed before but going to ask. Basically I think it may be faster to go after Japan hard with Britain, USA and whatever Russia can do.
Russia just buy infantry every turn but consolidate all Russian forces in Asia to Soviet far east.
UK hold India at all costs get an IC there. buy one fighter a turn and send to Russia through Karelia
USA buy one fighter a turn send to UK then Russia to UK then Karelia
yes both UK and Russia will send fighters over the AA gun in Karelia to Russia, its a risk but probably will only loose 1 in 4 at the most.
USA will concentrate on destroying the Japanese fleet first then landing units to Soviet far East by having the main Navy at Alaska and another group of transports at western USA i know it would take 2 turns to land in far east but i don’t think Japan with the fleet gone could hold of UK and a pile of USA and Russian infantry from two sides. then when japan is off Asia the Allies can mass tanks to Russia then to Germany.
Question is can Russia keep Germany at bay with 2 fighters one from UK and one from USA and 5 Russian infantry a turn Until Allied tanks roll in From Asia?

RE: Allied industrial Bomb strategy
I think the strategy is there and works well i win more than i loose against good axis players. Wondering if maybe we could setup a team to test and get the timings down. Figure out how many fighters Russia needs to survive Japanese and German non stop Blitz on Russia. Also how many bombers are optimal to avoid purchasing too many. I am not sure if you can have too many bombers they have dual roles to industrial bomb and to support attacking\landing infantry in Western Europe. Figure out what turn USA needs to quit buying bombers and switch to Naval.

Allied industrial Bomb strategy
I have been developing a allied strategy wondering what others thought. I never see any other players do this so wondering why? I have gone 10-2 being allies only loosing both games to a skilled Axis player who Blitzes HARD with Germany and Japan.
first destroy German navy
Basically Russia consolidates Asian forces in Yakut. then retreats everything in Europe to Russia but one infantry on Karelia and 1 one on Caucus. I even move the AA gun back to Russia just to be an A@@. Then just buy infantry until Germany is hurting and can buy tanks.
UK buys and moves 5 fighters to Russia ASAP and with USA help knocks Germany out of Africa ASAP. then buys nothing but Bombers and industrial bombs Germany.
USA helps UK get Germany out of Africa ASAP and gets 5 fighters to Russia ASAP. then buys nothing but bombers and industrial bombs Germany.
When Germany starts getting hurt by the industrial bombing USA starts switching to Naval Units and attacking western Europe ASAP
So far i have found only one player who has beaten me twice but BARELY. He is axis and with Germany he buys all tanks 1st turn then buys nothing but infantry rest of game. Moves his army one space at a time once he reaches Caucus he starts attacking Russia but retreats before his tanks and and aircraft get hit then retreats and reinforces with a new pile of infantry and attacks and retreats over and over.
Meanwhile with Japan he does not “Pearl Harbor” he buys transports and infantry for 2 turns with Japan then moves his whole air force navy and some infantry and tanks and takes India. He builds an industrial complex on India and Burma then begins buying one bomber a turn and the rest tanks he attacks Russia every turn with the tanks and Industrial bombs Russia every turn as well. he eventually builds up about 3-5 bombers and basically removes all Russian IPC’s while Germany is like an infantry battering ram supported by tanks but the key to his victory is he retreats Germany before his tanks get killed sometimes only doing one combat roll then retreat. And moves columns of infantry one space a time from Germany the tactic is brutal.
I beat him when my bombers basically reduce his IPC’s to like 5-20 a turn and hopefully the 10 fighters in Russia keep Germany from breaking through. then the American navy landing on Western Europe overwhelms Germany. Also the bombers also help when attacking Western Europe with landing infantry. Only draw back is i have seen AA roll like 3-5 1’s which sucks but still i think the gamble is worth it rolling multiple 5’s and 6’s with industrial bombing is so devastating.

RE: US strategy?
America is a bit slow but is the force of the Allies. I usually abandon Asia and just move the fighter and infantry to India if Japan does not kill them. Then i buy 1 bomber per turn move to UK and industrial bomb Germany every turn while building up my navy at USA. Once my navy is large enough to withstand German aircraft i move to UK and have a fleet of transports at UK and USA and rotate every turn to attack western Europe every turn. If Japan does not Pearl Harbor i normally move the Navy to UK to get Germany on a 2 front war ASAP.
If Japan does not “Pearl Harbor” Sometimes i buy subs first turn consolidate my USA navy then attack Japans waters and force them to buy industrial complexes and buying time to buildup India with UK and possibly place US industrial complexes in Asia. This can really put japan back a turn or two. it really hurts Japan if they are buying transports if they see it coming they are force to defend by buying navy or buy industrial complexes which takes pressure off of Russia and India.

RE: Need Strategy to counter GER assault against UK navy…
Try this Allied strategy.
1. Russia consolidate your Russian Asian infantry and tank in Yakut LEAVE THEM THERE, abandon Karelia and move the anti aircraft gun from Karelia to Caucuss move all infantry in Russia and Karelia tanks and fighters to Caucuss. Then when Germany takes Karelia fall back to Russia Moscow Buy nothing but infantry the whole game and place in Russia. Moving the AA has a good reason.
2. UK wait to see if Japan does Pearl Harbor if they do buy an Industrial complex in India. If they do not wait to see if Japan goes for India or attack toward NW Russia. If Japan is dead set on India don’t waste the money on an industrial complex. begin buying fighters with UK and fly them into Moscow ( now you know why i moved the AA gun from Karelia to Caucus). Once Moscow has about 10 fighters begin switching to bombers with UK and industrial bomb Germany(another reason why we moved the AA gun from Karalia to Caucuss). Wait for the American Navy to arrive at UK before buying any Navy. Germany will buy an AA gun in Karelia but the turn or two helps and also it costs money. UK and America should be buying Bombers and relentlessly industrial bombing Germany.
3. America If Japan does Pearl Harbor buy 1 Bomber per turn moving to England every turn. Slowly build up your navy and once it is large enough to withstand the German aircraft move to UK waters. Take back Africa ASAP. I like to leave the main naval at UK and and have another group of transports at USA and every turn i can land infantry at Western Europe by rotating the transports from UK to USA. If Japan does not “Pearl Harbor” move the American fleet from Pacific to the Atlantic. and take Africa and start putting pressure on Western Europe ASAP.
Once the Allied industrial bombing has slowed Germany down enough were Russia Cannot be taken you can start pounding Western Europe with Infantry and the bombers and Naval. and Also buy a few tanks with Russia to start attacking Germany on both sides. Japan will not be able to crack the UK fighters and Russian infantry in Russia alone.
I have lost to this strategy only twice in probably 10 games at local tournaments. I loose sometimes to the same guy who spends one turn with Germany buying all tanks and then buys nothing but infantry the rest of the game. He also does not “Pearl Harbor” he uses the Japanese navy to blitz India then in turn buys a industrial complex at India and Burma then buys nothing but tanks and bombers with Japan he uses Japanese bombers to industrial bomb Russia and attacks with a few tanks every turn. He pounds Russia relentlessly from Japan and Germany over and over not caring about losses however he would retreat if attacking before he takes casualties with his German aircraft. He sometimes breaks through and takes Moscow.
But he says that this Allied strategy is tough to beat and he is the best player i have seen yet. i have been playing Axis for 13 years.

RE: UK opening move - factory in India?
If your playing a smart player, who does not “Pearl Harbor” with Japan and uses the Navy to take India which is basically Impossible to stop. Do not buy Industrial complex turn 1. Wait and see if the Japan player does “Pearl Harbor” or not if he does then you should be safe but i would wait until turn 2 or 3. Don’t forget about the 2 infantry and transport in Australia they help defend India very well, Also the transport can move Infantry from Africa to India (after Germany has been removed from Africa). My favorite UK strategy is to fly fighters from India to Russia “Moscow”. Creates a brick wall of infantry and fighters to setup a long game to use the Allied 3 turn advantage to win. Its hilarious to watch Germany throw tanks and infantry trying to wear down Russia and the 10+ UK fighters and Russian Infantry just obliterate them.

RE: Balance Issues?
I cant see how anyone could say the Axis have the advantage. Allies have a extra player per turn and that is the best advantage in the game period. I would agree the Axis are setup for speed playing and their good in the early game but i win more often with the Allies than any other. I do not see how giving the Allies more of anything will help the game balance. I would challenge anyone to beat me with my Allied industrial bomb and fighters to Russia tactic. Clearly The Allied players are not supporting Russia well enough or are allowing Germany and Japan too many IPc’s.
