    • RE: 2015 NHL Playoffs

3 cups in 6 years in my opinion makes them a dynasty in a league of 30.  It’s not like they were bottom feeders 7 years and earlier and only recently benefited from high draft picks and cash at the right time.  Moreover their run isn’t over.  A few more playoff appearances going deep into the playoffs will assure them of dynasty status.

As a Maple Leafs fan…I can only dream of my team winning the cup ONCE in the last 48 years!  So the idea that 3 in 6 is no big deal is just hard to fathom.

    • RE: Star Fleet Battles

I played SFB in the 80s, still have all my rule books and SSD sheets I believe they were called.  It was a fun game but it at times became a war of rules with game play stopped because somebody was using something in expansion pack 3 that you were not aware of and forgot to establish ground rules for what expansion packs were used.

I had the same experience with AD&D.  There were people who wanted to play the game, and others who sought advantage in esoteric rules.

I was thinking of this thread with the recent troubles there and the island building by China.  I didn’t realize it was over 3 years I predicted this.  Mind you, give enough time nearly any prediction can come true……and the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup…one can only hope…

    • RE: Olympic Hockey

Calling NFL and MLB champions “World Champions” is a lot conceited and not accurate. Even if they are the best team in the world (because no other country plays the sport), no other country has a team in competition.

True of the NFL but last time I checked the Toronto Blue Jays of MLB play in a different country that the US of A and in fact were World Champions twice.  Also much like American NHL champions, they were stocked with foreign players.  There is probably a higher % of Americans playing hockey than Canadians playing baseball or basketball, tho in basketballs case that is changing.

In any case……Silly Americans, Hockey is for Canadians…  for now!

    • RE: New Force Posture

Hey… you’re a Canadian! Of course you are opposed! You just want a US military to keep North America safe because Canada can’t!

Safe from whom?  The Chinese navy and invasion force?  The Russian navy and invasion force?  I suppose if one metric was the last time Canada was attacked by terrorists we are doing rather better than most countries.  Granted luck often plays a part, but one can make their own luck……

I understand that the US now spends 25% more in real dollars now then during the cold war when there really was an existential threat.  One can argue the balance of forces and where money is spent, but spending as much as the next 20 nations combined and 25% more than during the cold war has got to be too much money.

Mallery, I was suggesting that Indian innovation is superior to that of Chinas, not that it is superior to the US.

The US may have some old ghost towns, but they don’t build brand new cities on credit for a 1/4 of million people that are never inhabited.  Or the worlds largest shopping mall that is 99% unleased.  Only a centrally planned corrupt government can pull this off.

Hey Mallery.  I generally agree with your assessment of China’s superior infrastructure it has come at a cost in terms of local debt loads which may yet implode the Chinese economy, doubtful but a possibility.  China is not to be underestimated in their capacity for required change, and a centrally led single party system can force it to occur.

However, technological innovation favours India.  India does desperately lack infrastructure and their splintered democratic system does not allow them to pave over farmers fields as easily as China can.  On the other hand, capitalist systems tend to be more stable over the long term.  Provided corruption is not to great democratic/capitalist systems tend to wring the most out of the resources at hand by best allocating resources.  China has too many ghost cities and malls to be healthy, but they sure do prop up local GDP numbers on borrowed money.

      Google “China ghost town”

Living next to Buffalo I can tell you the snow storms aren’t bad now.  Now that lake Erie is fully frozen over there is no more lake effect snow.  Of course now the worry is that there will be a large non-lake effect snow fall followed up by a wind storm to blow a laketop full of snow onto shore Blizzard of 77 style.  Gosh that storm was fun for a warmly dressed kid!

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blizzard_of_1977

As for who will own the 21st Century….

China’s economy will overtake that of the US but they will have less surplus to spend as it’s spread out over 4 times as many people as that in the US.

Shortly after that India will overtake both due to demographics.  China will have relatively old population compared to a younger India with more working age folk.

China will be an environmental mess and lack the innovation of India and the US.

The US with a net surplus of energy should be in fine shape but perhaps not the only big kid on the block or not even the biggest kid, but perhaps the most fit and well balanced.  Well balanced economically but perhaps not politically and mentally…who is!?

Glad to be of help.  It wasn’t so much my brilliance as having the exact same issue a month ago with a piggybacked ‘freebee’ that got installed along with something else.

I actually don’t use any anti-virus software.  I am just careful as to what porno sites I view!

I use Chrome with no problem.  It’s always a good bet to have two browsers installed and trying them both to ascertain if the issues is browser dependent.

Do you use anti-virus software?  Try disabling it for this site.  Ensure you didn’t accidently install something along with another program that may be affecting behaviour.  What changes have you made to your system recently?

I’ve gone 2 years in a row so this will be my 3rd.  My new place in Ridgeway (Fort Erie) will be ready by then, it’s <10 minutes from the Buffalo/Fort Erie border.  2 acres for parking and lots of room in the house.  There are lots of forts and historic battle sites from the war of 1812 all within 30 minutes of me.  Oshawa is about a 3 hour drive from me so not ideal to day commute but I did it last year….probably why I missed the 2nd day!

I hope I can get away with using american money interchangeably with Canadian money.  If not, credit cards should work.

I would exchange money at the bank.  Often you lose 5-15% on currency exchanges at a store or hotel and credit cards ding you on currency exchanges too.

It’s criminal negligence if you leave drugs or car keys out and somebody gets hurt.  If you leave a firearm out its a different matter.  Why?  Hint Hint……The NRA will not go to bat for your misplaced keys or drugs…
