    • RE: League General Discussion Thread

      Dear all,

with great regret I inform you that Trulpen has lost his biggest battle and is no longer with us – much too young at the age of 47.

For those who do not know him – he was a very strong (and sometimes controversial) A&A player. In 2022, before he stopped playing A&A for health reasons, he reached the Playoff Finals of both BM and PtV. He also was a strong Chess player and Chess blogger.

Me personally, I remember Trulpen as a strong and very helpful player. He was my first ever opponent on this forum. Of course he killed me, LOL :-) He actually played everyone that wanted, up to 11 games in parallel, not caring about losing PPGs even if winning. Had he avoided playing against Tier 2 and 3 players, his table ranking would have been higher. But he didn’t.

Trulpen was always ready to help and gladly answered any question you might have on A&A strategies and tactics; and he commented on your games against him.

@trulpen I discovered axisandallies.com 10+ years ago, but I had no idea until last year that there is a league “hiding” in-between forum posts. Maybe we should ask djensen if it is possible to make a button “join the A&A league” on the main page with a link to a subdomain, which itself could have links to the relevant forum pages, e.g.

      • League Rules
      • Find League Opponents Thread
      • Post League Game Results Here
      • AA Gamer’s League Rankings

There is a thread https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/category/29/league, but you have to be lucky to find it as a newbie – it would be good to have the link to the league sub-domain on the main page.

In my view, the forums are a bit confusing, especially for newcomers. We might have a larger league or even more leagues/divisions, if all potentially interested gamers were only aware of it. Poor league moderator though ;-)

These are just my two cents. I think I saw a similar proposal in an old post, which was not followed in the end.

@gamerman01 thank you. We play old school without calculator, and that’s quite a challenge 😅 I did an educated guess of a 55% chance of taking Moscow and failed badly…

I am counting the number of units on each side and in parallel I sum up the “hit values” of the units like a 3 for an attacking fighter or a 4 for a defending one. But after too much beer it proved to be difficult, LOL

It is only mid-July, and there were already 30% more OOB games finished than during all the year 2022 (39 vs. 30).

Nice to see a revival and a few new players who joined! I assume with a lag of a year or two there might also be more BM games played (55 as of today vs. 153 in 2022).

PtV appears to remain stable (20 vs. 38).

      Game on! :-)

    • RE: Invitational Classic 2nd edition

Gentlemen, I am glad we can make this happen! :-) Thank you all for joining!

This will be a league-style tournament with everyone playing everyone twice, once with the Allies and once with the Axis.

The agreed upon rules are finally as follows:

      • Russia is not allowed to attack in round 1
      • no technology
      • Economic victory for the Axis if they have 84 or more IPCs after the US-turn

As there is no even number of players, there will be one player free of play, each “match day”. In case you are bored, feel free to already play the following match day, if your opponent is ready to do so,

It looks like the whole tournament is a match Germany against the US, with elche and Martin being from Germany :-)

Please let us have the loser of each game post the result in this thread here, and I can update the results and the ranking table. You can find the game plan and the results and ranking table here:

      https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=120069D2430781F6!846&authkey=!AJaivysx6pBsGhQ

Players with the same number of points share the same ranking, except if the direct competition shows a 1-0 or 2-0.

As Classic is not as lengthy as 1940 Global, I propose to bump after 2 days (or a give a heads-up before a longer absence).

Get in touch with your opponent and set-up these epic battles!

Let’s get ready to rumble - good luck and much fun to everyone!!

    • RE: Find League Opponents Thread

      Hi guys (and girls?),

I am new here and look for an opponent for G40 OOB (without weapon’s development). Having played about 15-20 times, I guess I am inbetween beginner and medium. So far I have only been playing against one friend of mine, and I lost most of the games which is both frustrating and unfair! I don’t have to explain the frustration part. But it is also unfair, as it was me who taught him the game… TripleA hard AI has no chance against me, and my friend is regularly killing me…

In any case I prefer playing one-on-one games. And for more informatio about me: I learned A&A during my year as an exchange student in Oregon in 1988/89. In 1992, my parents visited NY and brought me the original game as a souvenir! Love them! :-) I used to play during high school and university, and then I had like a near to 20 year break. I discovered G40 and TripleA around two years ago and fell in love - of course ! :-)

Besides that, I already spent a fortune on HBG pieces and spent weeks painting the pieces. And for Christmas I finally got my 3D printer!

I have a time constraint which will hopefully not be an obstacle for finding another mate to play:

Being a family father living in Germany, I can only play on weekend evenings which basically means Fridays and Saturdays from 10pm to 2am CEWT. I guess this would make it an afternoon/early evening match for people in the US.

It would also be great to participate in the 2021 league! I am just uncertain if this works with OOB, or if I should learn how to play BM3. Any advice is welcome! :-)

I am looking to get a request for this or next Friday evening (European time) or an invitation for the league :-)

In any case I wish you all the best for 2021!

      Best regards,
      Martin

@Sovietishcat thank you very much - highly appreciated!👍🙂 It appears that both FlyingBadger and myself have both reached the end of awfully busy times outside A&A, so next round match should be completed rather quickly.

    • RE: ANZAC planes on US carriers

That is a fair point. I would love to see the colors of each nation’s units be significantly different. Oversight mistakes are just awful.

I would not go so far though as to limit the reach of planes on allied aircraft carriers. This possibility is giving an advantage to the Allies, as it will hardly be applied by the Axis, but as it was stated before, this is kind f evening out the advantage of the Italian can opener.
