you can’t build destroyers

RE: Industrial Complexes or Transports for Japan?
not enough poll options ;P
what about buying ic’s when the usa does a pacific strat (I know it’s rare, but it does happen especially if germany is very weak, and japan get’s teks) -
RE: Axis and Allies Europe-1939?
@Guerrilla:
uhhh…how about yu roll a d6 for every unit… 1-2 Defend +1… all else -1 8) …
thoughts…
well, if the defenders roll a 1, it kills one of their own!!

RE: Does anyone have a good American strategy?
I’m no expert with the usa, that’s for sure!
Try to keep a big naval presence. I’m experimenting with having “extra” transports (more than you need to move max infantry builds each turn) simply to further threaten germany.Another later turn strategy:
If you can take western europe, do it with uk, unless you can hold it, in which case do it with the usa. Then next turn build an ic for western europe. Now Germany is screwed as you can move the remaining men in, and build 6 tanks a turn at the same time, So you get “double” reinforcements for 2 turns because of this. -
RE: Doubt about Sardinia and Corsica
it’s useful to take as uk and bomb north italy with usa assuming that germany doesn’t have fighters in north italy
-
RE: Using Germany's Mediterranean Navy
or just transport out of africa, and kill the uk fleet with air, trap their men there to go nowhere except take africa 1 ipc per turn.
-
RE: Using Germany's Mediterranean Navy
if england uses the infantry and artillary, you counter with men and air. You just have infantry in yugo and north italy, and it reaches anything they can attack. Also, it’s usually good to kill the fleet with a bomber and a fighter.

RE: Germany-take convoys or sink UK fleet?
no, cash is collected at the end of the turn. But germany can’t get money from someone else’s convoy. So if you take say the russian one, it lowers russia’s production, but no increase for germany. You wouldn’t cash out higher by taking them
I usually take 4 convoys, and destroy all but the us, russian, canadian, and east med fleets.
I can normally hold these convoys for 2-3 turns. -
RE: Just a simple question: how do i win?
it would be fun to play with a rule where Germany has to take 2 capitals to win. Of course this would require extra units for Germany (not allies) in order to balance the game. The middle east oil would be mandatory as would be all of russia. Once Germany starts cashing out at 65 (and moscow has fallen) then they would probably be able to win eventually.
I’d love to play a game like this with bid for axis or would allies still need a little more to make it even?

RE: Huh???
well, the game actually starts June 22 1941 (I think that’s right) when Germany invades the ussr. The only thing that isn’t right, is the usa wasn’t in the war. And the fact that taking moscow wouldn’t mean victory for Germany. You could have house rules where the usa doesn’t enter the war until 3. But to compensate, give the usa production of like 80 or something turn 3 and later. Only 40 the first 2 turns. What do you think?
Or just play advanced historical europe which already has the usa comming in late, and russian winters among other things. It really is pretty cool.

RE: What is 1st edition rules?
all I know is what I have heard. For instance, naval units could go in costal regions (like diplomacy) Which was weird since battleships could attack infantry. Also, alled forces could attack together, while historical, gives the allies a huge edge.
-
RE: Best Way to Kill America(explained better this time!)
maybe if you play with a rule that lets germany build naval units for half off. I’d be willing to do that as allies as long as otherwise it’s standard rules.

RE: Why isn't Italy in this game instead of Japan?
uhm, I think most people would agree that Japan was more powerful that Italy. Let’s face it, Italy more or less lost everything it attempted.
-
RE: Just a simple question: how do i win?
hmm it would be more interesting if there were an economic victory, but the game has some serious “flaws” that could be fixed. There is only one real strategy for Germany in it’s current state.

RE: This game or the first one?
Europe uses all the world rules and then a bunch more. Pacific uses all the europe rules then a lot more also.
So I think you should get world, europe, pacific in that order…

RE: Germany and the Middle East
If the game took longer to reach moscow (more than 8 turns or so) it would be worth it.
The problem here is simply the fact that it doesn’t pay for it’s self for the resources needed. For this example a lot of stuff is assumed.
You will probably need to take an artillary and man off of north italy (kill the malta fighter) which costs 7 ipc’s. The next turn you are lucky if you can get egypt (Doubltful you will since the uk can block with the fleet. Assuming this, we will suppose you can take egypt the next turn. Great, you get 1 ipc, the allies 12. This money goes into effect turn 4. The next turn you take syria also. ok, +2 more (allies -2) Total gain 7 ipc’s. Now it’s turn 5, you have +7 from oil, but subtract the 7 for forces needed, for all your efforts you have gained nothing so far, and you don’t get the benefit of killing the destroyer with the fleet (50% you lose a sub) More importantly, you don’t get to move the fleet to the atlantic to harass the allies. The second hit on your battleship can only be used once. It’s turn 5 and you have nothing yet from all of it, and you didn’t get to transport stuff on africa to europe (a valuable move to maximize tank output in later turns) So you don’t really get ahead until turn 6 when you should be taking moscow, or about to take it. You also lose valuable moves.
Another thing, the money the allies had to pay comes from usa. In my opinion the usa’s cash isn’t worth as much as germany’s. Therefore, overall it’s a waste. The only good thing, is you kill a fighter. The bad thing is the allies have an easier time landing in france, and to kill the destroyer in strait of gibraltar, you send a sub (you can’t take a convoy worth 3 now) So, the allies gain 3 ipc’s early on. Cash early is worth more than cash later… there are other reasons too, like the men taken from europe early on can’t pressure russia to trade belorussia in the mid-game which is important.

RE: THe $12 you get to start with!!
yes, artillary is good for russia. Depending on what germany does, if germany places 4 infantry on the eastern front, I would consider artillary essential. (otherwise germany can hold east poland on turn one)
-
RE: A simple solution to a British problem
I don’t recomment building an ic at all. If you do, then you also need an aa gun. a 20 ipc investment. Germany can still overwhelm it if they try hard enough. Your best bet is to counter attack egypt with:
1 inf f/ syr
2 inf f/ind (trn)
1 ftr f/ind
1 bmb f/ukThis can take out as many as 4 german units. If there are more in egypt, you might just lost some african money until you can invade with your big fleet.
-
RE: THe $12 you get to start with!!
if you attack malta turn one with the german fleet, it will be more than 2 turns from the atlantic, which is too far. You also have a 60% chance of losing a sub killing the destroyer. so 5(60%*8)+2(66%*3)=7, so, only a 5 ipc gain (average) for attacking malta. It actually ranges from -3 to 12. Anyway, the point is, putting your fleet 2 turns from the atlantic isn’t worth 5 ipc’s. If you send it to gibraltar, you might even get the opportunity of trading the fleet for 2-3 uk planes!
Of course, I’m against it, but if you want to do it to change things up, then be sure to at least use the units on africa to attack it (not ones from italy)

RE: Axis and Allies License
what’s a minor considered?
I’m 17 am I a minor?also, what if my dog wrote it? or I “found” it?
what evidence is there? What if it’s called “allies and axis”?
What if the author claims to live in ukraine and hosts it on a ukrainian server?
