RE: Looking for a G40 Alpha+2 game
I’ll try Allies, I’m pretty ambivilent on tech.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
I wouldn’t want to lower the VC in Europe down to 7 that would almost seem to demand a Russia crush.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
I’m still in favor of some small tweaks to balance the game out. I’d be willing to give Questioneers recomendations a try on the hope that Japan could focus more on naval builds those first three rounds if they had a small boost to their land units. Though I also agree that the Axis need to force the US to commit to Europe.

RE: What to do with Russian fleet units
Unless the Italians take out the BB.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
I think it’s very much up to arguement that the US would go to war over a European powers colonies. In fact that seems almost ahistoric, issuing sanctions is a far cry from going to war, so I could see Japan losing the NO for not being at war with the US, but, the US should not be able to declare war unless it’s attacked.
There could also be some debate as to whether the UK would declare war on Japan for occupying the DEI, as the game technically begins before Japan joined the Axis. The Dutch declared themselves neutral at the beginning of the conflict with Germany, though the Dutch government fleeing to Britain would seem to argue strongly that the UK would declare war.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
I think the problem with the airbase or naval builds in the Black Sea is that if Germany can really afford them, the game is probably close to being over anyway.
-
RE: Who do you go for as Germany?
I think the perception is that you’re closer to all the 2 IPC Russian territories, but, the reality is that East Poland is better to stage attacks from because you can go north or south. You can hit Bessarabia easier from there and then by extension North and South Ukraine, but, I’m not sold that it’s a good build. Atleast with an all infantry buy you can still go Sea Lion if the Brits let themselves get weak, the Major IC pretty much commits you to south Russia because you don’t want to later decide to try Sea Lion and have the Red Army take that territory.
-
RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
You’d actually slap the ten infantry down on round one move them to Hungary on round two and then to Romania or possibly East Poland on round three vs a complex on round 1 and builds placed in the south on round 2. So you are simplifying logistics somewhat. That being said, I’m not sold on the complex in Romania myself, but, I can see some merit in it.

Oh ya, she’s not in our games.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
We’re in two team games together…

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
I tend to agree with doing away with most of the Russian fleet. I though most of the Russian fleet in WW II was old US lend lease destroyers. I’d rather see a Sub and Destroyer in SZ 115 and a destroyer in SZ 127.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
The Jap fleet sat in 6 and simply got bigger and bigger. The Americans were based in Hawaii and couldn’t leave it because it would split their fleet that they kept building in 10. It was pretty uninspired, but that’s my point. If the US goes all in on one board the Axis should be able to take advantage.
I don’t really see how a poor USA player proves that the Axis is up to par. I think you may be mistaking when people say US goes all out on Japan for not buying a single units in Europe. USA can spend a very minimal amount in Europe while 90% to 95% of their production beats Japan down. I think at heart we all want G40 to be a great game, some of us just think it’s not quite there yet. It seems like there were very similiar arguements when people said the J1 attack in Pac40 was broken, granted this isn’t as huge as the J1 was, but the Allies just seem like they do not get pressured like they should.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
I’m curious as to where the Japanese fleet sat, and why the US couldn’t pick them off and get them to engage. To me that sounds like uninspired US play. I’m playing a similiar game to that now, where the Japanese tried to sit in the Phillipines and from the Carolines the US fleet can hit to many ares, I’ve been able to deny Japan all NO bonuses and even with a horribly unlucky attack I took out a good chunk of the Japanese fleet in Japan and still feel I have the advantage in the game. All you really have to do is deny the Axis one or two victory cities and eventually you’ll steam roll the Axis.
In Europe the USA has been aiding the Brits with minimal IPC’s invested, and though Germany is starting to threaten Russia a bit more, Russia will not be falling before the Brits are landing in Europe. Once again, I’m not saying the game is unwinable for the Axis, but, I think it is slanted towards the Allies.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
Got it…you’re not willing to throw your nuts on the table and back up your opinions. I suspect there will be some minor tweaks to boost the Axis when all is said and done, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
Who gave specific examples of Japan not being able to take the DEI or the UK’s circumstances?
@Cmdr:
I would love to GET the DEI for a change! But I think you are missing how easy it is to sack Tokyo now…. Getting DEI is pretty impossible now due to how fast America can move and get ships to bear…
Obviously from the OP Geist…
Too bad Mantlefan doesn’t play online, I bet we could all learn from him…
Yeah. You probably could.
Who said Russia out produces Germany?
@Cmdr:
This is due, probably, to the fact that Russia can easily out produce Germany and thus stop the incursion without assistance.
Again, the OP made this statement…
Says another guy who doesn’t play online. Though, I did miss that he was refering to a post two pages back, so my bad there, I was wrong, feel free to start up a forum game as the Axis so you can school me, though, I don’t think it’s going to happen.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
What makes it troll like is he comes out and says a bunch of people sucks, even though he has no idea who those people are. Then he refutes a bunch of arguements no one is even making. Who said Russia out produces Germany? Who gave specific examples of Japan not being able to take the DEI or the UK’s circumstances? What was said is that some of us feel the game is tilted towards the Allies (as well as some debate towards what degree people think it is). Too bad Mantlefan doesn’t play online, I bet we could all learn from him…

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
This is where I am at right now. I know for sure the Alpha+2 is in favor of the Allies slightly. Therefore I just want to see a tweeked NO to give Japan a little more cash. Europe side is fine IMO.
Change Japan’s #4 NO by adding 5IPCs for owning Shanghai or Hong Kong.
I really think that is all that is needed.
Yeah, that would probably work as well. I was just kinda shooting for simplicity with a few extra infantry.
@mantlefan:
Maybe it’s child’s play if you are litarally playing axis opponents who are children, but it is infathomable hopw much the axis players must suck inthe games you are describing.
Idi Amin-like typing detected…
I know right… I can’t even figure out what post he is addressing, it must be an automated troll response.

RE: Changes still needed to the game, IMHO
I just do not feel pressured as the Allies. The greatest pressure seems to be on the US to make good purchases and get their forces into combat quickly. Obviously I’m not saying the Axis cannot win, but, I don’t believe the game is as well balanced as it could be. Changes I’d like to see include:
-
A 5 IPC NO for Japan based on Land conquests.
-
A minor buff to Japans starting forces, possibly adding one more tranport to SZ 6.
-
Italy neutral until it declares war at the start of its turn.
-
A small increase of German units on the Russian border, possibly a destroyer in SZ 113 as well.
