War Diaries - Advance to Moscow October 1941
Hi, I made this short video with some drawings, music and sounds to get across the harshness and bitterness of the German advance to Moscow through the Rasputitsa. Check it out, tell me what you think.
I’m thinking of doing a few more.

RE: G1 build to take the gateway to Africa for certain on G2
The one from India is 3 move away from the coast of Italy, with only one move left it has no where to land, therefore it cannot make it.

RE: G1 build to take the gateway to Africa for certain on G2
what do you do when UK kills your BB/transport with 2 fighters bomber? Then he takes transjordan?
Where does the fighter and bomber come from. Only one fighter in Egypt!

RE: Playing with paratroppers.
Can paratroopers be used in 1942 2nd edition? If so, what rules would you suggest?
-
RE: Waffen SS Infantry
I don’t know, I would rather use Fallschirmjäger as the German elite fighting infantry myself.

RE: G1 build to take the gateway to Africa for certain on G2
That also sounds pretty good to be honest. There is definitely potential. I’m gunna try it!

RE: Building Infantry Without Industry
I think it might make holding the Russian Front easier for Germany in 42.

RE: G1 build to take the gateway to Africa for certain on G2
Yes, I will usually trade Ukraine for Karelia if the Russian player decides to launch an attack on both West Russia and Ukraine. However if he masses at West Russia I may consider retreating from the Ukraine (leave one man there to hold them from blitzing) and mass those forces and those in German in Poland to form a counter offensive force to crush any troops heading along the southern route through Ukraine.
I’ll send all three infantry from Finland into Karelia, splitting the troops in Norway to cover Norway and Finland (1 each). All the troops from the baltic states will attack and also some from Belorussian region. I’ll get a couple of fighters and maybe 4-5 tanks to aid in the attack on Karelia. I’ll also send two more infantry from germany with the transport and support from the cruiser providing of shore bombardment.
–--------------------------
In reflection, I will probably only attack the american transports with my subs, it would be better to keep those subs alive as insurance and a future “threat” to enemy landings.
If the UK fleet does decide to move through the canal one huge aim will have been achieved. This will leave India “wide open” to off shore bombardment. In two turns minimum Japan will have India. If the UK decides to fight me in Africa he will lose India. It’s a trap!!
Also, I can reinforce my fleet next turn with some sub cannon fodder or just retreat all together and head for Brazil with a strike force. With India Russia will fall a lot quicker. It’s another front they have to worry about. I might even be bold enough to buy a IC in France and build a navy in the channel. It sounds mad, but by turn four I could really threaten the UK. Then India would fall for sure and Europe will be safe guarded.
Africa will be a hard fight for the allies - guaranteed
UK will feel the pressure
Russia will be halted and infantry built to restore losses.
As for the USA, Japan will pressure them a little and help to take down Russia from the East and South.

RE: Axis are OP
Germany has to prepare defence by Turn 5. Men, tanks and fighters!
-
RE: Axis are OP
I lost in my first game. I controlled Germany and Japan and my two mates controlled the allies between them. They went KGF and I found it very hard to help Germany with Japan who couldn’t really do much.

RE: Variants for HBG "Battle Pieces" - Axis Minors
We use bonuses for artillery (reg & mech) when paired with armored cars. The theory is that armored cars were used as scout or forward observation vehicles that could relay troop movements to make artillery more effective.
That is a very good idea: So what kind of stats do you give armoured cars and artillery?
What kind of bonus do you get?
–-------------------------------
I was thinking it was 1 IPC for the bonus movement and 1 IPC for the first strike (I was thinking only attack; conceptually I suppose I was thinking of the surprise factor plausibly available to a highly mobile artillery unit.)
Yea, I suppose artillery should get a surprise assault and because it’s mobile, then it should be paired with another mobile unit like the armoured car to get that surprise attack.
–------------------------------
I was thinking for the 38t (Light Tank)
5 IPC cost ATK 3 DEF 2
Is that alright or too powerful?
–------------------------------
Back to Promotions:
Me and my mate were also considering a promoted ME-109:It would cost 6 IPC and be converted into a Fw-190 Fighter
This new aircraft would share the same skills as it’s original fighter ATK 3 DEF 4 MOVE 5
However it would gain new abilities against bombers as a high altitude fighter.
Special: Bomber killer
During attacks by bombers the Fw-190 Fighter will get a surprise attack before the engagement only once. On a “4” or less an enemy bomber is killed!
When a strategic bombing run takes place this fighter kills enemy planes (if playing the escorts and defenders rules which I do) on a “3” or less instead of a two.
What do you think of this promotion, I think it would come in handy. For 6 IPC you are getting a bomber killer!

RE: Variants for HBG "Battle Pieces" - Axis Minors
Is that attacking and defending first strike on “1”? For 2 IPC?
-
RE: Variants for HBG "Battle Pieces" - Axis Minors
Promotions are pretty cool, but the prices you list would make it almost always a bad idea to promote, especially the Hummels. 3 IPC just for 1 extra movement? Perhaps the only time I would ever consider doing this is if I had artillery 2 spaces away from moscow that NEEDED to get there the next turn.
For example, I have pretty much the same unit (from HBG), and when we play it costs 5, and is still hardly ever bought.
Yeah, I can see what you mean with the hummels…any other suggestions for the promotion of artillery then? Maybe a pairing?
However I think the rest are pretty fair. Infantry upgrade for 2 IPC is worth it. You are getting an extra role if you miss.
You can get 6 promoted infantry for the cost of 4 infantry. Those 6 infantry basically have 12 attacks! That is good.

RE: How to beat Germany
Get the UK fighters to Moscow to add extra defense. Buy mostly infantry and 1 tank a go. Launch attacks along the front at places where you are even in strength, but where there are no enemy fighters. Use your fighters to inflict losses in the attack
If it looks like you have killed 3 infantry, and he only killed 2, take that as a success and retreat. He will be down one more infantry than you and will have a harder time attacking your territory in the next go. USE RETREAT! Remember he has to reinforce from a greater distance. The more losses he takes at the front, the better, as long as your forces are a little ahead.
