and my opponent rolled 2x5 Dice AAGun fire.
First Roll was 5 out of 5…. :-o
(second roll hits another one if I am right - but its long ago)Since that (and b/c he normaly got more than average dice outcomes)

In our Game on G1 a Minor IC in Romania, told him that an Upgrade in G2 would Be best idea, but he build Units for France instead (at this Time imo unessecary).
He attacked on g3 and could only use the Full Transport capacity once. Wasted Money…
He also Moved to Leningrad… Next mistake imoI think moving Straight to moscow with One Big Army is the Key.
While you gathering troops in a
defensive Position (2nd Stack) in East poland.
I think that can really work, but only if you surprise the russian,
so that He isnt able to Fall back (i assume that russian Player will Form 2-3 stacks in Second line) with enough troops to defend moscow,
or He is Forced to Attack the German Stack Rolling to moscow ;) -

You don’t have to Fly around (that would Be Funny) you can end your Movement where you like, using 1 up to à max of 4 movment Points.

as for whether it was stalingrad or lenningrad i always mix those two up in my head, whichever one is north, that one.
Leningrad is north, Stalingrad southeast.
Then an amphibious assault make sense :-Dhe kept sending his guys to the front in an attempt to cause as many casualties to me as soon as possible and stall me out
Well I think that never works for Russia, they simply haven´t enough offensiv units to really harm a german stack. They they have to retreat (to moscow only if nessecary) and wait until their time (to attack) has come. This would be the turn the US & UK put massivly pressure on western europe, italy or norway. Axis can´t defend all and head east at the same time. So time is on Russias side. But if you loose your units in senseless attacks like your oponnent did its no wonder that russia falls so quick & easy 8-)
i also didicated enough fighters to alwasy have 3 escorts.
OK but you siad
1 bomber and 1 fighter a turn for 3 turn all used to stat bomb london.
he sent all his interceptors every time, but no one ever hit anything except for the one turn we both killed one.

You do know that SBR interception/dogfight is no optional rule ?
So to raid London you have to go through 3 defending fighters
(with only 1 as Escort) AND the AAGun fire.G2 killed Russian BB and wildly successful invasion across the entire Russian front

You gained how much IPC and how much lost Russia ?
in fact they get their NO while at war and you have to take away at least 5 IPC to “hurt” them. But thats nearly impossible I think.ferried guys with transport and bombarded with navy into stalingrad which fell.

LOL even with G2 attack you cannot attack Moscow at turn 4.
Inf started from your own ground will need at least one more round to be in position.If its true your Russian player wasn´t really smart.
I think its pretty easy for russia (if US player isn´t a moron) to hold Moscow long enough,
so that axis can´t win the game. -
RE: USSR Invasion
I have thought last night of a new plan to take down Russia.
G1: buy 1 minor IC, place it on Romania and 1 AC to protect the Baltic fleet (29 IPC)
G2: buy upgrade for the Romanian IC (you can also wait until G2) and 3 transports for it, placing them on SZ100. Also buy 1-2 transports for the Baltic. Spend the rest on infantry/art.
G3: buy 1 AC for SZ100 and the rest all inf/art/armor.
Declare war on Russia and strike everywhere:
- The fleet on SZ100 can hit Rostov, Ukraine and Caucasus, all 2 IPC territories and forcing Russia to take them back or see its production drop.
- The fleet on SZ113 will probably have to sink the Russian fleet on SZ112 (Russia should have moved it there to block an amphibious assault on Novgorod) before attacking Leningrad.
- The border territories should be lightly defended (1 inf each) and hopefully Russia has pulled back any stack on Western Ukraine to Bryansk to deal with the Black Sea landings, allowing for German units to converge on Eastern Poland.
- G can also drop the 6 units right into the Caucasus, outproducing Russian production on Volvograd and threatening to take it or to move into Persia.
This requires a substantial investment by G but completely opens Russia to multiple attacks. Then it is a matter of G choosing which route to take: the northern one, focusing on taking Leningrad while harassing the Russians on Rostov/Ukraine/Caucasus with landings and slowly bleeding them; or the southern route, going through Ukraine and to Bryansk to directly threaten Moscow and cutoff Volvograd.
Yesterday we played a game and my friend (playing Axis) build 3 Transports and a CV in SZ100. I told him before that maybe this would be a good idea. In the end it wasn´t a good idea b/c he failed to make further use of it. He took Leningrad , so to split his army was a huge mistake. Only way is a fast Blitzkrieg (right towards Moscow) ignoring Leningrad and Stalingrad. If the Russian player dont see what is coming you will take moscow, if he does than he has to abandon nearly all other territories to face this thread.

IMO no one can give you further advice,
seems that you tried most of the common ideas for what the axis should do.
Problem is that you only can plan turn one to 100%.If I were you I would try some NA only for the axis and see how this works out.
I would like to See Germany Start with 1 out of 3 techs…
Paratrooper , Rockets or Jet Fighter (Tech Rolls only allowed if you are at war and restriction to 3 rolls a turn & 1 breaktrough, so US wont put to much IPC in it).Think that will Be Fun ;)

Only if it helps you to bring down Russia fast(er),

US can’t take over UK territories in Canada even if London is under Axis control.
Think of France ! It’s the same in North Africa,
so i try not to invade their territories. B/c US can push their income and Italy isn’t able to hold them long enough, so they would pay off the troops & logistics you have to invest to invade and defend them (3IPC max. gain for 2-4 rounds I guess).
So prioity with Italy is once more Egypt for me ;) -

Well the boost helps alot if you want to attack Russia on G2 (G3) while they are “weak”.
(Need to build an IC in Romania or upgrade the one in Germany)
Let Italy taking Paris means (for me) to delay moving Italian troops to the Balkans and Cairo.I like to conquor Arfica, but the sooner this is done the sooner the Italian forces can help in Europe.
For me africa ends at cario, the simple goal is to hold it and prepare for the US fleet to come. The logistics and troops for invading terriotories south of sahra didn´t´t pay off in IPC or strategic value. Only endless coasts you cannot defend.
Sandbagging means not playing your best - purposely weighing yourself down. If you want t keep Sea Lion an option, Japan shouldn’t declare war till turn four (maybe three).

Build your fleet in sz 112 with your existing navy (this battle is overkilled because (besides the sub) you can’t afford any loss of navy - not even a wounded BB - you need the fleet intact to protect your builds.
I think thats the weak spot in this strategy, if UK hit you there (like it did me on our first game) it could all be over very fast. Our UK player attacked me there (I would too, especially if transports were build in SZ112 - I build in SZ113) with what was left.
Here it would be 1CV (only good for 2 hits) 1DD 3FIG 1TAC (2,3,3,3,4) against
1BB (assumed damage) 1CRU 1CV 2FIG (2,3,4,4,4).
Not really good for UK,prepare to loose the CV , DD & the TAC.
Try to save the 3FIG for defending London. 1 or 2 combatrounds to give Damage to the German fleet. If all transports are in SZ112 I would sacrifice the 3 FIG as well to sink the whole fleet in one sweep. -

As long as you’ve built a carrier and two transports to threaten Sea Lion, UK won’t dare send enough air support to hold France.
Of course lacking the twenty three extra IPCs, Germany must abandon any thoughts of a turn three Sea Lion
So spending all your IPC on G1 for Naval and missing to collect the IPC from Paris
sounds like a very bad Idea for me ! Thats double loss of IPC for Germany…
You have to delay your attack on Russia for at least 1 Turn or maybe 2 turns.
Not good since Russia has more income in Global. -

So far i’ve played the Axis twice and both times have had a very successful Sealion in both games on G2 though the first game was our first play and i totally forgot about the IPC win from taking France and UK rolleyes, both times with very few losses, the second game went incredibly well with the loss of only one sub and one tac bomber…
Sorry but I think your oponent(s) / UK Players simply wasn´t smart enough.
IMO Sea Lion cannot be preformed w/o significant losses and/or extrem luck…Italy had also been massively successfully in Africa and the Persian Gulf

Because I failed Sea Lion in my first Game as Axis,
I will try Barbarossa on G2 or G3 next time,
with a IC (Maybe G1 Minor , G2 upgrade to Major) in Romania.
But this reminds me of the Old AAEurope,
where it was the only option to win for Germany.
Hope (but don´t see how) the Game could be won with a Early G2 or G3 Sea Lion
if players are head 2 head in experience and either has more luck with the dice.
If Sea Lion succeeds it will depend on the ongoing turns….
If it fails the game is just over in G2/G3 - no need to play further. -

got a little question…Is the US allowed to move their fleet to iceland on US3 non-combat
(while not at war in this phase) :?
I know they can park of (US3) at Newfoundland an use the Naval Base (US4)
as I do know that US ships aren,t allowed to move in Sz adjacent to europe and africa.
But what about Iceland ?Moving there on US3 and you could invade norway on US4…

1 With Germany u can use France to help Sealion,
2 West Germany to reinforce Russian advance, and
3 if you build an airbase in Germany, Romania with a minor IC, or both it can help crush Russia by beefing up your stacks with 4-6 inf a round.
4 Not to mention you will crush Allied landings in most of Europe as long as you have a force in France to respond with.
5 With England you can harass Germany everywhere in the Atlantic.
6 With the US, after crushing Southern Italy you can take the Baltic States and practically assure the fall of France. 7 Russia can use it to help counterattack Germany/get troops to China to face a rowdy Japan.
8 I think the only powers to which it is useless are Japan, ANZAC, China, and Francei think you might not have the full understanding of how paratroopers work. but if you do then here is my response
1 if you are attempting sea lion you must have a unit that is not a paratrooper so you more than likely have a transport that needs to get ground units to london. paratroopers can only transport 2inf from normandy to london and be shot at by aaguns. if you are transporting units to london already you would be better off buying a transport for 7ipc, which would be cheaper than acquiring a tech and is not a gamble. after your attempt at sealion the transport has more options and flexibility.
2 paratroopers only allow movement of 3 spaces away. west germany can only move units to finland if you have to retake it, baltic states or east poland. i think you would be better off spending 2ipc to upgrade 2infantry to mech infantry instead.
3 now you are just making the mistakes even worse by sinking even more money into it
4 too late you did mention it. i do not think making this big an investment on getting 2 axis infantry to western europe a good investment. axis can easily produce units in western europe

6 i believe the airbase is in northern italy. you can only move 3 spaces so you can not reach the baltic states. france is next to northern italy so you do not need paratroopers
7 you can use the airbase in moscow but you first need to have units in kaz, novo, or tim to help reach the 3 chinese territories within reach. you would be much better off just buying more units to send east.
8 hopefully now you will see that it is probably the most useless tech for all nations

But looking at the Paratroopers rules for the first time I was slighty disapointed :oops:
Because of the “limited” use for the Player (only for combat) I thought of adding a non-combat movement Air Transoprt ability to this tech. Similar to some inoffical rules wich we played with the 2nd edition. But there it wasn´t a tech, every Bomber could be used for paratroopers and transport. -
