9/11 over rated?

Underway on board USS Providence SSN 719.  We had just LEFT the gulf to make our way home….we were already in need of repairs after 5 months of being deployed and had just made critical repairs to our electric plant.  It was about 2100 when every officer got called to the wardroom (we were at PD).  About an hour later while I was on watch finishing up some samples, we got told over the 1MC about the reports and the little info that was given to us.  Immediately this ship was on blackout comms back and forth, so the wife didn’t hear from me for two months.  We immedieatly turned around, flanked back, put two fish in the tubes, loaded up two tomahawks in the tubes, and found a welcoming committee waiting for us not knowing if they were friend or foe yet…it took about a week for them to denounce the attacks, but we didn’t know going in to that…Like to say after almost of a month of waiting, the ship launched every tomahawk we could at those fraking a-holes…we wanted to reload at Diego Garcia, but they said home is where we belonged…didn’t help that our Seawater systems were becoming fouled like a mofo after sitting off the coast for a month.

Providence would then be called to do the same its next deployment against Iraq.  This time she did reload.  :evil:

There is this really great program on the History Channel, or maybe it was the some sister network to the History Channel (it was on digital cable), but it was a 2 hr show detailing 9-11 and went into a lot of the backstory right up to the events.

I’ve only seen parts of it, but it was really good, and it might provide some of the details you are looking for.

It aired around 9-11 this year and I’m sure gets a fair amount of replay (if you know someone with digital cable), so you might want to keep your eye out for that.

The thing is - this isn’t news. I’ve read about similar circumstances - innocent people fingered by mean neighbours and sent to be tortured and die in US prison camps. Even in medical journals.

Sadly this also undoubtably happened under Saddam as well - the only difference is that the US is now the criminal here. This is not to say that the US is as bad as Saddam was (this is more difficult to judge but IMO most US forces refrain from these practices). But no question in my mind that the US has not been acting with clean hands. The questions I have is exactly how widespread is the US misbehaving with regards to the big picture? Atrocities happen in all wars by all sides - war is hell. The clear difference now is that it gets reported more often. Maybe it happens (with US forces) more often than before, but again who knows for certain?

The other point is that sometimes, rarely, it may be necessary to resort to these sorts of tactics to prevent a worse disaster. When/if this is ever the case, I am glad I will never have to be the person to make this call (what if you are wrong :cry: ). But clearly in the case of Lyndie England, et al, this was a case of some evil miscreants who have not been punished sufficiently, IMO for their crimes.

D:S, even the really deep bunkers are not reachable by the mini-nukes, as they still have to get there and pierce it in the first place, so it is the “hull” of the bomb that is crucial. Read the article for more info on that.

Hahaha, I think DasEwokSS would disagree with you on fascism (thank you for knowing the correct spelling).
Myths don’t come true, Communism will. There is no human purpose under communism? Give me a break. It would seem like it would have a more “humane” purpose. Be careful with human nature - it will surprise you. Also, Communism is freedom - compare that spectrum with fascism to see why.
