Can you deploy transports with supply tokens?

You don’t have to unload them if you don’t want to.

It applies to everything in the chosen step, including airfields.

Seems that rules allow for not all transports being unloaded. And I think this works for feints, allows for “oh sh*t” moments, so, interesting. And between rules and other Krieghund responses on forum, I kinda think attacking Airfields with CD is likely considered cricket as well. ? Viscious! Wonder your thoughts. Thanks!

btw, I love A&AGC. More props to Larry & co for this one. I see it getting plenty of flack (along with other beloved BotB) and just want to do my small part to tip scale the other way. Thanks for a great game, guys! And thanks to forum members too. I do extend victory points to minimum of 30 and then you gotta win by 5. It’s too much of a sprint for me to 15; it’s just getting meaty at that point! But otherwise OOB plays great for me (with advantage tokens!). But, then, I tend to love the drama of the dice! :-)

Not during the regular movement phase.

If you want to during the reinforcement phase you have to pay supplies at your base depending on which sector on your side of the board (shown on the gameboard) you want to place the ships. This is called Rapid Deploy.

Supplies are for – building airfields, repairing airfields, repairing ships in the damage area of your base and for rapid deployment.

As for me, I never leave anything on Bougainville <sp?>on the first turn.  Put everything on Choisuel and New Georgia and see where it goes from there.  I leave one Infantry on Santa Isabel so I can use the Navy Guns on the US invasion force.</sp?>

I’ve never done it.

I can only see one situation when I might want to consider it.  Buy a carrier with two fighters (or use two of the starting fighters the US gets on their base) and pay one supply token to get that carrier onto the main map at the earliest moment.  I can’t see paying $2 to get anything else into the game early.  But getting $7 + $3 + $3 worth of stuff into the game quickly might be worth a look.  It could save a task force that just invaded New Georgia and took heavy losses in sea zone “I” but the ground units did OK.  Those extra two aircraft might make a big difference next turn if you need the ships to provide fire support to defend the counter attack next turn.

I may just have to look at that.  Turn 1 US takes Guadalcanal, Malaita and Santa Isabel.  Turn 2 US invades New Georgia from sea zone “I” pulling forces from Santa Isabel and Guadalcanal and resupplies Santa Isabel with stuff from Malaita if Japan doesn’t “counter invade” heavy in Santa Isabel from Choiseul.  If somehow the US ships lost many escorts in sea zone “I”, a rapid deployed carrier in “I” or “J” might keep the US navy afloat.

Not Sure about Subs getting sunk by Artillery… But I remember in Vietnam, at the Battle of Khe Sanh,  There were major problems with getting in any kind of air support.

The American Base at Khe Sanh was being so heavily shelled by Artillery,  that incoming aircraft were almost garunteed to be struck down by regular artillery shells.

Let’s not forget that Artillery is very versatile, and that a common combat theme in WWII (which still applies today) was to be creative.  Sometimes you just use what you gotta use to get the job done.

Actually, the rules don’t say you can unload onto different islands, but they don’t say you can’t either.  This is a designer clarification, and I am trying to get it added to the FAQ.  This is a perfect example of why it’s important not to let the rules from one A&A game color your interpretation of the rules of another.  We all tend to see things that aren’t there when we’re familiar with a similar subject.

It’s called Chaining and you can.  if your Japan, and you have a ship in F, you can move ART and INF from Bougainville and Choiseul to NewGeorgia without moving the transport.  Frankly the redeploy supply options will allow you to quickly drop land units off at Santa Isabel or Malita quickly.  But if both are focusing on New Georgia, than there will be some big battles there.

Remember, Japan starts with a supply chain, the Allies don’t.

Right.  If the transport or destroyer already has units and/or supplies on it, you can’t unload them in the Load and Move step to switch them for something else.

Well, I mush admit that sounds ambitious right now.  I am thinking about going after New Georgia in round two, three or four.  I guess I need to get back and run a few sample games this weekend myself.
