For beginners, I’ve always liked A&A Europe the original.  It’s out of print, but still obtainable.  There’s even a copy for $25 on BBG!

It’s easy to play, dramatic, and not too long. It teaches the basics of game play without getting too bogged down in technical rules.

One more note:  do you have a certain code of play?  For instance, those who forget the rules must suffer, dice falling off the table are invalid, you must finalize your purchases before moving, etc.  I find that low luck helps a lot of people who just get furious when their glorious plans go down in flames because of extreme dice results.  (I must confess, I am liable to keep telling people if they were lucky or not.)  Another thing you can do is consider giving people a second chance if they just can’t get a hold of the rules.  I often do this for new players and even go so far as to point out all their options. […]  It is all just fun and games anyway right?  Of course we don’t want to take the fun out of our games though…

These are good points.  There was another thread here recently which quoted the Genghis Khan-inspired line in the Conan the Barbarian movie “Crush enemies…see them driven before you…hear the lamentations of the women” – but that’s not how an evening of A&A (which should be played for fun) ought to go.  There’s a difference between being passionate about the game (which is good) and taking it so seriously that playing it stops being fun (which is bad).  And the rules of good sportsmanship are important too, because playing a board game face to face is an interactive social experience.  I once read a book on wargaming in which the author, a veteran of countless wargames, commented that the wargamers he plays with are all clever and healthily competitive people who will sometimes push to the limit what the rules of a game allow…but who will draw the line at actual cheating, and who would be horrified by the concept of winning a game in a dishonest way.  He said that this was the right perspective to have at the gaming table, and that it makes the experience more enjoyable for all concerned.

and ask for a game (specify them what rules of axis and allies revised  you want to play eg. “LHTR 2.0”)

call Avalon hill customer service and tell them you own 2 copies of the Guadalcanal game even though you don’t own any. Tell them you need the new cruisers because yours were not correct. They will send them for free. This is what millions are doing all across America…nearly 99% of all calls are bogus and piece junkies ( you know who you are and are smiling while you read Imperious L’s choice comments)

Then tell your friends to do the same which will cause AH to pull out their hair and never goof again on their game components…

thats will get you 32 cruisers for free, then you split that in the following for revised:

Soviets: 2 ( repaint either)
Germany: 6 ( repaint Japanese)
Uk: 6 (repaint US)
Japan: 9
USA: 9

1 white chip = 1 additional unit of whatever type is placed on top of it. An example would be a fighter unit on 3 white chips is 4 fighters(often written 4 ftr or 4 ftrs).

1 red chip = 5 additional units of whatever type is placed on top of it. An example would be an infantry unit on 2 red chips is 11 infantry(often written 11 inf). Heh-heh!

Unless you buy extra pieces, on eBay fer example, you will have to limit your countries that you have forces in.

You might also check out your local rag tag hobby/toy store, Goodwill or other second hand shops.

i dont know what your talkin about. i played as allies vs my friend who is very experienced and i won (wasnt easy tho)

u need to employ tactics man.

for example i made a raiding force, and built up like 6 bombers, and a strong navy, beat the japs out of phillipines and then built a factory there (dont worry if they did take it its not very useful to build there) and i kept strat bombing them (6 moves to japan and back to phillipines) and sending troops to sumatra, borneo, and the rest, until u have a decent invasion force, then its cake

jap player only got to 40 for one round in my game. be a coward in china, hold all your troops up in schechwan since rest of china is worthless and u cant attack to get korea or manchuria. build a good force of arty and infantry in india, hold back britains navy until its strong enough to severely damage the jap navy. use combat air patrols to protect your boats. watch for the strategically significant naval bases and airfields.

keep in mind tho no strategy is 100% in axis and allies. its like chess… on steroids… with luck involved!
