Interesting story Garg, interesting story.
And thanks Marc for the background info. It’s easy to forget/overlook things like that.
I think that Rommel was an incredible resource that Hitler just flushed down the toilet.
Couldn’t agree with you more. But I don’t call humans resources unless we’re talking about Solent Green
Rommel was no longer a resource at that part of the war. Even in Africa, germany’s decision (and kesselring’s) to go malta first didn’t happen. unless a second front was open into turkey, rommel was doomed. who was he going to link up with for supplies?
Actually I heard that Erwin was to link up with Army Group South in Southern Russia after crossing the Suez Canal.
how so? they were thousands of miles away! malta had to go.
It was one of Hitler’s fantacies. Impossible considering the best logistics. Perhaps a possibility early on, but at the time of his “dream” no chance. Rommel would have to take the Suez, the Middle East, and then push north. Time consuming and difficult under the best of circumstances.
You can never count out humble little Malta. They have the bravest knights.
theyy got the “george’s cross” or something.
Malta was the only time where George’s Cross had been given to a whole country during WWII. The Knights of Malta also defended themselves heroically against the Turks.
oh, don’t they have their own tiny little country in rome?
i think i saw that on guiness world records show.
