Submarines can be attacked by air units in this game.  Of course, they will only get one shot before the sub(s) can withdraw.

You may be thinking of the rule that says subs can’t hit air units, or you may have read something concerning later versions of A&A in which air units are unable to hit subs without a friendly destroyer present.

The underlined portion was a totally new thing for us when we started playing 1942.2 (after playing the classic version for so long).  I can see the idea behind it though.  Helps preserve the sub a bit better from what we’ve seen.

In answer to #1:
No.  LZ’s have to exist for everything sent in.  “Planning” on losing a fig in terms of counting LZ’s would make 1 of the 3 FIGS a “kazee”

In answer to #2:
Anything NOT used in the naval battle CAN be used for the amphib.  The only thing that can participate in the naval battle that also is part of the amphib is the tranny, and that only to offload troops (thus not actually IN the amphib battle).

So if your bomber did not fight in the naval battle, but has the range to reach the amphib attack area, it CAN be used.

In 2nd edition rules – a surviving fighter in this scenario can only land if an island (completely surrounded by water) exists in that SZ.

In 3rd edition rules – when an aircraft carrier is sunk. The surviving aircraft on it can attempt to locate and land on a friendly island, territory, or aircraft carrier. These aircraft have one movement point to do so.

No. On a SBR the only thing that can shoot at a BMR is an AA gun.
-BMR flies to SBR the IC.
-Any territory that has an AA gun which the BMR flies over on the way to the IC gets to roll one die per plane. 3 BMR = roll 3 dice, add the #s, the defender returns that # of IPCs to the bank. :)

If 1 BMR is hit only 2 get to SBR the IC. 2 BMR = 2 dice, add the #s, the defender returns that # of IPCs to the bank. :)

In one variation of the game the BMR can be shot at on the return route if it passes over an AA gun. But, for example, if the UK BMR flies from UK to Germany, is missed by the AA, bombs and flies to Russia there is no second chance for the BMR to be hit.
I do not like this variation. In the regular game, the limited bombing and limited retaliation give you a simple idea of a complex war. Why try to make the game more difficult? If you want that GET A HARDER GAME!

In a second variation friendly FTRs can escort and enemy FTRs can intercept the BMRs. But again, it just makes it more complex. And do you allow the FTRs to intercept and fly attack missions or not?
