Are you registered ?
-
I just have read that 6 US states followed a proposal of the MPAA, and made unregistered possession of a TV set, mobile phones, fax machines etc. illegal. Even using a firewall or encryption on your computer falls into this. The EFF seems to be “not amused” at all.
Land of the Free?
Freedom of speech…. yeah, what about the Freedom to See and Listen?Anybody able to confirm the above?
-
I believe this is more of an anti-theft law.
-
Well, not if you look at what some people think….
The MPAA itself at:

http://www.mpaa.org/Press/DVD_FAQ.htm
a response to the FAQ at:

Also have a look at the EFFs home page
For an interesting “objective” legal view look at both:

and
http://www.mpaa.org/Press/2002_05_17a.htmlots of stuff, but for me being on the internet and a fan of free information, this looks like a new attack of “the usual suspects”…

This comes under the saying…
…HOW THE HELL ARE THEY GOING TO FIND OUT IF MY TV IS UNREGISTERED!
-
Easy.
They will just ring at your house door during super-bowl/grand final/etc., when the TV is on.
Who knows, if you do not work with the authorities, then you are highly suspicious to be a terrorist/wrond-doer or what ever. And with the new laws, they have a lot of rights, even though they are not directly related to this one, they still can be used against you.
Maybe they just call you on the phone, that must be registered too.
