Yeah, thx for the reply. I won that game. I took out the allied fleet and they weren’t able to help Russia for a round so Germany took over Russia with Japan’s help from the other end.
Naval Retreat

If an enemy attacks you in two, adjacent bodies of water and the first body of water to be attacked has a sub, can the sub retreat from the first body of water into the other body of water to help defend against the second attack? I saw this happen in the Axis & Allies computer game but I wasn’t sure if that was a legal move.

Even if the computer game let it happen you shouldn’t be able to. The battles are supposed to be happening at the same time so I think the sub should retreat and you decide where to after the combat phase is over.

C_F is correct. You may only retreat into a non-contested sea zone.
-
Yeah, CC is right. The rules state you can retreat to a sea zone that does not contain enemy units. Clearly if the battle has not been resolved then there are enemy units.
A point of interest is that the defender can retreat into the sea zone from which the attack was launched provided there is no other enemy units in it.
