According to http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=40353.0 -Hey guys,
I bought this for someone last week and we are playing it this week, before classes start. I’ve only played original and revised so I am wondering, are their major strategy changes I should think of based on any rule changes in the game? I’ve heard that subs are more powerful… That’s about all I know!
Any help is appreciated…

It isn’t something very new or original but it is different from Revised.
Bombers are strong now. Naval is an option for Germany (not the best but doable). KGF is still best, though I think a German who defends with luftwaffe + subs + inf can keep the balance.
The major new strategy things are for Germany, my favourite is buying a bomber every turn to keep the Allied fleet at bay, and/or bomb the Russians.
there are noticeable changes to the strategies for both sides. the biggest change is to transports, you cannot use them to take hits in naval battles, which changes the logic behind the naval purchases. for example its more of an option now to buy Bigger units like Battleships. Subs are now the cheaper boat that can be used as canon fodder… but since they can’t be hit by planes unless Accompanied by a Destroyer, you need other surface warships.
As a result of the new transport rules, one thing can’t be stressed enough. The Allied fleets must stay together. In Revised, the UK and US fleets could operate in different seazones. Early in a Revised game, I would often have the UK in Norway via z6 with the US in Algeria via z12. This is no longer practical because of the extra amount of protection needed from the Luftwaffe.
A further repercussion of this is the added difficulty to supply Africa by the Allies should Germany threaten seazone 12 with fighters on Western Europe. I can’t speak from a wealth of experience on this one but has anyone found Africa harder to control as the Allies in Spring 42 compared to Revised?

I usually just load and send the 2 US transports on US1 unescorted to land on Algeria right away. They’ll be killed but the ground units will be useful to pressure the Germans on North Africa. Afterwards it really depends on how the Japanese player is willing to give a hand on the Germans.

Not really harder, just different. you can’t totally look to revised as a basis for what you can do here, because of the changes.
Its not necessarily a must to keep the allied fleets together. it all depends on how you build them and where the opposition is.
I personally like for germany to waste fighters on a vulnerable american fleet at SZ12. when there is a stronger back up on SZ10. that means those fighters are not bothering Russia…. but like i said it depends on the positions
