Unoccupied Territory
-
Another newb here.
My son and I got 1942 last week and have been having a blast, but of course we have a few questions. I apologize if the answers are somewhere in the rule book - couldn’t find them.
1. How are hostile, but unoccupied territories conquered - can any power simply move into them in a combat or non-combat move?
2. If the last unit surviving combat on a territory is an attacking fighter I realize the fighter has move back to the friendly territory, but does the territory in question no belong to the attacker or still the defender?
Thank you.

Welcome to the forums! I’m glad you’re enjoying the game.
1. You can move into them with land units in combat movement and capture them without a fight. You can’t move into a hostile territory in noncombat movement, even if it’s unoccupied.
2. The territory remains in the defender’s possession. Only land units can capture a territory.
