I am glad that dice are part of the game.  It makes each one so different and fores players to learn different strategies to deal with certain initial turns.  This weekend I played one where the German air force was mostly destroyed during the first two turns and I had to win the game as Japan.  I was lucky that Russia was too conservative, allowing Germany the luxury of not worrying about possible counter attacks.
