The bases should all be round and a little bit larger than AH.
If these are dedicated A&A pieces the bases should stack integral with the chips. ~ZP

True. If Germany has duct tape tech and Japan has paper clip, the Allies are doomed. :-D ~ZP
Tora Tora Tora happened to be on tv during the first game of Pacific we rolled, right after it came out, which was quite fitting. But we usually just put on the Military Channel. Over the course of a multi-hour game sooner or later the game you’re playing will come up (if not repeatedly). ~ZP
This is AA50J which is being called AA50E because what, Jen’s got a patent lawyer on speed dial? Or so we are to believe. Ya know it should be painfully obvious to anyone who’s been here a while that the real game Jen wants to play with her faux AA50E ruleset has little to do with A&A. You do realize that to continue threads like this one is exactly the game she’s after at this point, don’t you?
Ya know if Jen’s the only one on the planet that truly believes she’s developed “the official” AA50E ruleset then she loses at the little power trip game she seems so fond of playing. She can call herself queen of the universe too and that doesn’t make it so. So if you care about and respect the work of Cousin Joe and the Enhanced team don’t post anything in these silly AA50J related threads. Realize you’re only lending creedance to this absurdity by it’s debate!
Following scale model building practices you really should always wash plastic before you paint. Brand new pieces too because they will have mold release on them. Use some dish washing soap in warm water, rinse and air dry. ~ZP
So what is the US pump fake?
I’m surprised a seasoned player like you hasn’t seen this one a_r.
The US Player puts on these high heels see…
Do you have Adobe Acrobat installed?
If you do rasterize in Photoshop use 300dpi. ~ZP
@Imperious:
I can re size the map to that configuration, but i think ytou want it in PNG or PDF format because Jpeg ruins artwork that is vector and turns it into raster craper.
While PNG doesn’t have the sucky compression like JPG it’s still raster.
If you’re starting with Illustrator/EPS definitely use PDF. ~ZP
(Maybe I can finally stump the K-Man!)
There’s no stumping the K-Man. :-D

VirtualBox works great and it’s open source (free):

Given the fact that the Chinese FIG is so limited, what can you really do with it?
You can watch it get killed… in Round 1… every time. :-P ~ZP
I paid the full retail price at my local gaming store. Why? Because if we don’t support places like that (with games going on at tables in back) there won’t be any more of them. I buy my WWII aircraft models at the local hobby shop too whenever possible for the same reason.
So I reserve the right to b*tch about my $100 game thank you. With special mention of the cheap-A$$ who decided to put 20 cents worth of plastic (instead of the maybe 25 cents worth we really need) inside all those fancy cardboard boxes (that we could do without.)
Hey… you might not have enough pieces/dice/chips to actually play the game but do just marvel at those matching printed boxes your reduced piece count comes in. IMO this is the epitome of penny wise/pound foolish.
I can easily come up something to hold units (I bought Guadalcanal too, 3 ziplock baggies - done.) But I can’t supplement units (ya know, because they won’t let you).
This crap where one nation gets 8 cruisers, one 6 and another 4 is total bs for a game that ok… “retails” for $100.

I still like the idea of having all other sides of the die being blank, but that’s just me. It won’t address the radar tech of course but tech dice would probably be another (future) product entirely. So for the cost of putting a flak or some other image on all the other “miss” sides you could instead use the additional image to create 2 different AA dice to represent both fighters and bombers.

Most 8-year olds are going to be into units more than anything their first game, so I agree that the US would probably be the best choice. With the US he’ll be able to use most anything he buys so I think in that respect it will be more fun for him. Hook him with the playing pieces then reel him in with the rules (over time).
But don’t show him the A&A mini’s until he has a part-time job. :-D
Really no kid is going to want to play Russia and have to buy primarily dudes while everyone else is buying all this nifty other stuff. Besides, Russia is a tall order for any first time player: “now remember son, don’t make any mistakes or you’ll lose the whole game for all of us.” :-P

If BGG has it out there already, well hell.

I’ve been really trying to imagine what the AA dice might look like (IL really earned his keep with that idea.) Text is a definite not. Picture of an AA gun? Naah. Seems a little too “Milton Bradley” kiddie to fit in with the other dice you’re making. Which are obviously first rate and geared towards the advanced A&A enthusiast.
So I started thinking AA gunsight. Did some looking around. Most AA gunsights are very grid-like and somewhat plain (probably not something you’d put on a die.) But I found this one I thought had just the right classic lines for the intended purpose:
This is a 40mm Bofors AA gunsight. I drew this in Illustrator. I was picturing it on a white or light grey (AA piece color) die with all the other sides blank. You spot that badass in a roll and POW-POW-POW! Plane’s goin’ down!
Now I assume you screen print your dice so these lines might be too fine at dice size. If you used the original vector Illustrator file and screen printed it with a 300+ screen and using film (not liquid) emulsion… hmmm. Anyway, I drew the proportions matching an actual gunsight from a museum photo but the lines could always be beefed up for printing purposes if necessary.
You say help us design 'em… we help design 'em! :-D ~ZP
