I shouldn’t do these things when I’m pushed for time. Gavotti also flew the first night mission during this war. Even though the Tuabe has a bird like appearance the wings were based of the zagonia seed pod. There. Now I think I got it covered. At least what I know anyway.

Birds of Peace
Many people consider WW1 to be the birth of modern warfare. They consider the addition of powered flight, and mobile armored warfare to be the hallmarks. Sorry to say they are wrong. The Italo-Turkish war introduced those facets of warfare. Not only did the Italians use armored cars they used powered aircraft. In 1911-12 the Italian military was at the forefront of military technology. Soon a man named Benito would do his best to make sure they didn’t return there in his lifetime.
When Igo Etrich designed the Taube aeroplane I highly doubt he knew what the future held for his creation. He Igo designed the Taube in 1909. It was first flown in 1910. By 1911 the fragile monoplane would add two more firsts to it’s list. On October 23 1911 Capitano Carlo Piazza completed the first reconnaissance in a heavier than air flying machine. Nine days later Sottotenente Giulio Gavotti dropped four hand grenades on Ottoman troops at the Ain Zara oasis. This was the first attack by an aeroplane.
Also during the Italo-Turkish war dirigibles were used to bomb positions. The first time was on March 10 1912. Supposedly dirigibles attacked Ottoman ships at one point but I have yet to find anything confirming that. Aeroplanes were used to direct ship to shore fire in support of infantry. Sorry A&A fans. Your Italian forces don’t need to role to see if they can bombard the enemy. They started that 30 years prior. Before there were dreadnaughts in their Navy.
Soon Mussolini would come to power and make his dream come true. He reduced to fighting effectiveness of an Italian infantry company to that of an individual Girl Scout. Italy became a punching bag, and many men who went to Africa 30 years before sent their sons there as well. How frustrating it must have been for those fathers to pick up the newspaper every day.
After the Italo-Turkish War Taubes were used during the Balkan Wars of 1912-13. During WW1 the Taube would see extensive use in the Italian, German, and Austro-Hungarian armies. It ended up being used for reconnaissance, as a fighter and a bomber. So why would I entitle this little piece “Birds of Peace”? Taube is German for dove. Oh the irony.
Sorry for any typos here. I typed this up while waiting for my writers group to meet up.

RE: Are you a fan of Horror movies?
Old school Universal horror for me. Visible cardboard taped to lamps to provide the desired lighting. “We are deep in the Amazon. Oh look, a telephone pole.” I love that B movie stuff.

RE: WW2 Tank found in pensioner's cellar
This story brings out my charitable side. I would like to assume the burden of storing these pieces free of charge to all parties involved. I would be willing to provide safe storage of these pieces indefinitely. If need be I would even cover the financial cost, of having the proper documentation drawn up, to tranfer ownership to me. In his advanced years the owner shouldn’t have to deal with the strain of fighting the government. My charitable act would also save the German tax payers money.

RE: Carriers for sale!
As long as we can sink whalers and corporate ships dumping toxic waste in the ocean I’m hip. No capture. No prisoners. No mercy. Just sink them. Everyone else, we just take they shiznit.

RE: Neutrals for Axis and Allies 1940 Global 2nd Edition
There were a few wars fought in South America in the early 30’s. I don’t know who had who’s backing in those conflicts. There was the Guerra del 41 between Equador and Peru. I know the US supported Peru and Japan supported Equador, but I’m pretty sure that support was from the bleachers. The only equipment I can tell you for sure that was used was the Czech LTP (Panzer 38t). These were used by Peru.
Peru had all the gear. They actually prepared for war. This lead to Peru having a 3-4 to 1 advantage in men and equipment. Except for tanks. Equador had none. Peru had around 25. Take a wild guess at who won. -
RE: Minor power colors list.
Krylon is my friend. I decided a long time ago I like the maroon Soviet units in Revised. So my half of my Soviets are those pieces and all the stuff added in since is Krylon maroon. I refuse to play their stupid little games. Like Stalin said. “I do what I want.” 😜 :-P

What dice do you prefer?
If I’m going to move forward with my ideas, I want to do so in a user friendly manner. Thanks to all who respond.

RE: Using d16 as a compromise between d12 and d20.
The basic reasoning is to give a broader range of options when assigning attack and defense to units. I see your point though. I think I’ll just be happy with using a d12 system.

RE: G40 and 1942.2 AA fire always on
Maybe an HR that allows for fighters in spaces being tranversed by aircraft to sortie in defense would fix the problem. That would be historically accurate as well. It would also be suggesting something in the manner in which big people talk.
-
RE: Minor power colors list.
Warm and fuzzy it is then. Thanks for the input. I probably won’t run into that problem just yet. I think the first game I want to work on is only going to have one power not in any A&A games. That should he simple to deal with.

RE: G40 and 1942.2 AA fire always on
The more mobile AAA units had less range and effectiveness at high elevation than the static units with all big guns. That made the defenses around cities more like the air blockers you mentioned. The more mobile units, integrated with other units, were more likely to see individual engagements between a crew or platoon and a plane. This would be represented by normal combat in A&A.
With that said, I like ideas that try to mix things up a little. Even if they aren’t historically accurate. It keeps things from getting redundant. Give it a shot and report back.

RE: Minor power colors list.
I was hoping some sort of consensus had been reached by now for the colors of minor powers. I’ve been out of the loop for a while, again. Looks like I haven’t missed anything in this department. I’ve been bouncing ideas for 6 games around in my head for a few years now. I’ll have time to settle on one and focus on development for a while. Guess I’ll just just go with gives me a warm and fuzzy. Thanks for the info.

RE: Surprise strike VS Surprise strike
I guess you have to balance out some factors to get this one right. A torpedo hitting a WWII sub means you now have two halves of a sub. I was in the Army so I might have this next part wrong. I believe half a sub has something less than a 1-in-6 chance of a successful counter attack. I’m basing this assumption off the fact the crew would be a little smaller and the handling characteristics of each half would be somewhat reduced. Especially the fore section.
Now let’s say the attacked sub was able to hear the torpedo launched against it. If submerged it could happen. Maybe? Then yes it might get a snap shot off at it’s attacker prior to being struck and split in two.

RE: Just bought game
It is easier to get people to play '41 for sure. That is the only version I’ve been able to play since moving to WV. It’s good to have an introductory version like '41. Happy gaming and good luck in your hunt for players.

Minor power colors list.
Does one exist? I went to HBG and clicked on pieces by country. If you pick an axis ally, you can choose what color you want. Since you start off on black by default, you get no indication what color you should be choosing for your selected nation though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Using d16 as a compromise between d12 and d20.
I’m curious to know if anyone else has considered trying d16 in a few games. I started toying with a pricing scheme based on attributes. Then I started wondering if I’m the only person out there who thinks this is a good idea. Not that there is anyone to play with in Romney WV anyway.

AAM pieces on ebay
I’m selling off my AAM stuff on ebay. I’m reallybutnotreally in ebay land. This is the first time I’ve sold anything there. I’m starting with the Allied pieces I have.

RE: Building forces.
I have looked into HBG and FMG pieces along with other routes. In fact I have some American HBG stuff on the way from ebay. I ordered a runner each of land and sea units from Attack! in red. They closely match the red Japanes pieces I have even if they aren’t all that great. I’m fine with the infantry and artillery though. I plan on doing the same thing for my French land forces. I see no point getting too excited about acurracy when I look at my French equipment from Stalin. It’s a cheap way to get multiple types of infantry, and artillery. The same goes for other unit types if you don’t mind the appearance.

RE: Building forces.
I guess this is where things get complicated. These are the types of units I want in each force. How many of each should I have to ensure I never run out no mater what I’m playing. Obviously I have some house rules in mind.
