I don’t know if anyone here knows Japanese, but I’ve noticed a strange thing on the game box.
To the right of “Guadalcanal”, the same thing is written vertically in Japanese. However, it is written in a strange way. Normally the island’s name is written in the katakana phonetic script like this: ガダルカナル. However, on the box the first symbol “ga” has been replaced with the kanji character 餓 which has the same pronunciation, but also has the meaning “hunger”.
This seems like a typo, although it would have actually been easier to get it right.
Perhaps the Japanese navy had an alternate spelling for the island during the war?
