I have been taking a MK IV basically as bait, 3 machine guns, panzerfaust, some troops, light mortars and two officers. Clearing disruptions every turn is huge. Machine guns work on the troops along with the mortars and the MK IV hopefully holds its own if not the panzerfaust go to work.

Yeah, that’s a tough tank too. I like the 7 armor all the way around better than the King Tiger’s 8/6 in most situations, the obvious frontal assault aside. In my games, I play alot of infantry, and swarm tanks when possible. A Tiger of any kind would get crushed in a couple rounds due to sheer numbers. (The Allies have a tougher row to hoe with bazookas/flamethrowers/engineers but it works for them too. For the Axis, the Wehrmacht Oberleutnant/panzerfaust/and or antitank grenadier combo is particularly deadly) Having that extra defense in the rear, especially with Superior armor, makes the job that much tougher. Plus, the IS-2 gets better attacks against infantry. The KT’s cool, but any advantage over the IS-2 is marginal outside of Tiger Heavan.

With Set II coming out you’ll be able to field and effective Soviet team and Japanese team. There are a couple of new Japanese tanks that are pretty good.

You might even be able to put together a Chinese team but you might have to amek a house rule that allows more than 15 units per team or play 80 pts. or something. Those 2pt soldiers don’t really fill out the points very well.

What are the most effective units?

I continue to experiment on how best to use those big point tanks….

One thing I have discovered as a bad tactic is “hiding” the tank behind cover (behind a blocking hex) and then trying to spring it on other tanks or infantry.  This almost always ends up with my tank getting charged and cornered, because I had blocked my own LOS… and the opposing tanks could get close to me without drawing fire.

I think tanks are best out in the open… on a hill…with a big field of fire to deter opposing units--  and then at the end of the game if need be parking it on the objective… (for tanks with strong rear defense against close assaults).

p.s On a side note-- I am beginning to hate the SS-Panzergrenadier.  Only when I am shooting at it, of course.
