On GW: Oh if I could only have all the time and money back that I spent on GW.  The only game of theres I still even play is Blood Bowl, and only because it’s not nearly as cost intensive as the rest of their games.  GW games aren’t bad, and can be quite fun, but I found it’s just not worth the effort, especially with lugging all your boxes of units around.  AAM is sooo much easier to transport, set up, play.

Amen to that. I have case upon case of 40k stuff- and that’s just for ONE army. A&A? A Walmart tackle/tool kit with one army in it…lol

Here’s what I used in today’s 100 pt ‘friendly’ match

2 Stuarts
17-pounder
2 Gurkhas
Insp. Lieut.

Seems small, but the army managed to take out  9 German units- A Brummbar, Panzer 2, Armored Car, BMW Bike, Haupstrumfuerer, MG team, 2 SS troopers, and a Panzer 4.

My losses? All but the Croc…lol (Which was sitting on the objective, which it seems designed to do…lol) Granted, most of my losses were preventable, but I was feeling a bit “off”…  :-P

I’m thinking of taking a force close to that for today’s ‘friendly’ games- But I’d really recommend a 2nd Stuart over the Humber- the Stuart can handle both ground-pounders AND tanks. Granted, I’ve seen my Humners get blown up quite easitly, so I may be biased against them. I’m anxios to try the Gurkha’s vs. the rather tough German SS troops… should be interesting  :wink:…

I’d agree with Grim- if your opponent goes with the super nasty 7/7 tank, swarm it with Stuarts, anti-tank soldiers and anti-tank guns- numbers will pay off eventually for you, and he can only kill one unit/turn with the Mega-Tank.

Yea, it looks cheap at first when compared to other wargames, but it’s still costly after paints, terrain, glue, scalpels, miniatures, game tokens, the rulebooks, etc…

Indeed. I use A&A as a “break” from Warhammer 40,000- a labor-intensive game if I ever saw one. Assembling, cleaning, painting, building terrain, converting minis 'cause the company got lazy… Wonder why A&A looks so “easy” by comparisson?..lol

I can tell you that I’ve easily spent $1000 on this game since it came out.  I have at least one of every piece in Sets 1 & 2, and I’m not spending any more money until Set 3 comes out!

:-o Ouch. My group tends to buy a case or so at a time (We’re only up to 2 series one cases, and 1 case of each series 2 and 3) and we have complete sets of our ‘chosen’ armies, as well as enough ‘spares’ to trade for whatever we might need/want…

As for strategy, the Stuarts zipped up both sides, and did some rather good flanking manuevers on the enemy… they took out a few Panzer IV’s, a Brumbar, and several Panzergenadier in the course of the games. The Croc proved to be a fire magnet, but was only destroyed once after a Panzergrenadier got lucky- 6 out of 7 attacks were sucesses.

First prize? The rare from the booster, which was a “Mad Cat”- think Hell Cat, but a bit slower, with 5/3 armor and more attack dice…

Update: Managed to come in 2nd place, and picked up the rather spiffy “Hero/Combat Zone” medal. Part of the “prize” was also 2nd pick of the minis in a pre-sale Contested Skies booster- Chose a Puma and a panzerschreck (Bazooka, but bigger) trooper. Will post pics of the medal when I get my scanner going…lol

The Croc’s only 35 points- quite reasonable for 7/6 armor, main gun, a flamethrower, and superior armor…

I think either the glue was weaker on the series 1 boosters, or perhaps the glue tends to dry out in the gamestore- the first few Series Ones I bought SEEM to have been opened then resealed, bu as I got a Tiger 1 and a Churchhill Croc, I’ll assume “weak glue” is a common feature  :-P

Agreed on the inserts for tackle/tool boxes - I have one insert for each army, and it keeps them from rattling around (Used to keep each army in a booster box…lol).
