I assume you have instituted some sort of Railway rule allowing for greater movement? What does the UK do during this march to Paris and Italy?

RE: Does anyone know if this game is still in print?
This is a favorite of ours because it is a sea battle game mostly. Yes you are trying to take Islands but the land fighting always feels very secondary.
also aircraft are not very powerful or dangerous against ships, you need to bring way to many aircraft to really harm ships, planes must first fight past CAP and then run a brutal gauntlet of AAA fire from the ships.
Ships AAA fire at this period of the war was not that ferocious from either US or Japanese ships. Airstrikes usually got through and did pretty decent damage.
The biggest thing we do is change the victory conditions, instead of Victory points we play until all the islands are controlled or some other requirement.
With some tweeks and aggressive players this game has sweeping Sea battles, something no other A&A does at this scale.
In order to gain VP’s from OOTB you really need to avoid losing capital ships and be a foreman of airfield construction and not an admiral in the solomon’s.

RE: Reasons why you shouldn't kill France first
Sorry meant to say my two go to games.
And usually russia falls in round 4-6 , give or take.

RE: Reasons why you shouldn't kill France first
I agree this and Gudalcanal (with some home rules) are my two games.
Always testing new things with 1914, trying to see how to make it better.
I have every A&A game so getting extra units that mostly match is not a problem…but still its lame it didn’t have enough to begin with. Other versions come with extra units never needed.
Russian aircraft carriers for ecample…

RE: Reasons why you shouldn't kill France first
Mostly watching the Allies still win the war.
If the Brits have unlimited India builds, they went mostly toward OE and sent enough to contest Russia forcing both German and Austrian troops to garrison and be active in the east.
Playing with the real rules that would not occur after the RR.
So far Italy has never been knocked out of the war, French and US troops arrive to help out. If A-H is no longer worried about the east then that might change.

RE: Russia - no matter what the end is the same?
No, but I will - normally just take the Brits and go all in on KTF
-
RE: Russia - no matter what the end is the same?
We tried to limit the builds to 8 but this still allowed the UK to really rough up the OE.
We also tried 4 units but that was too few. India was often lost to easily.
I will give the 6 a try. We usually allow only 1 cannon per turn, as we assume these units are Indian, Australian and New Zealanders and don’t have the heavy weapons industry the UK had.
We also restricted tanks for the same reason.
-
RE: Neutrals - what do you do?
I’ve tried 3 different systems,
Impassable (the best overall I have found and simplest)
Increased their army to both 4 and 8 units (8 makes it formidable)
and Increased their army to 4 units and at the same time requiring an IPC hit on the invader.
We have them pay a 10 IPC penalty for taking down the Swiss banking system. One time shot.

RE: Russian Revolution question
While I get that is a rule for game play
How exactly are two fully equipped British Infantry (Divisions, Armies?) going to be deported to Siberia? :-o
If the Russian Army is not strong enough to expel me then the mobs of the revolution sure won’t be.
I think if I were in command I would order my men to fire on any “Reds” who attempted to take my Enfield’s from me.

RE: Russian Revolution question
so what would occur lets say if the British already occupy Russian territory? British troops in Sevastopol or Khazikstan? before the RR is triggered.
Do they have to leave?
-
RE: Reasons why you shouldn't kill France first
I was playing the rr wrong.
I assumed the brits could still enter russian territory and fight the russians if need be.
Clearly the rr closing the back door to germany is a good strategy. On the otherhand I still cant get a cp win even if russia is gone
-
RE: Russian Revolution question
I get that, the Russian $ is really important to the CP’s, particually the Germans. But not having a second front of that size to worry about sounds good too.
It basically makes the eastern front only in Turkey and allows only one avenue for the Brits to take in that part of the world.
I’m going to try another game and makes sure the RR rules are used precisely…that way I can watch another way for the CP to lose.
-
Russia - no matter what the end is the same?
In all our games Russia gets knocked around by the CP’s and are either beaten or neutralized by revolution. No matter what strategy they employ. No matter how many losses the CP’s suffer they just keep coming and one-two punching
Also even with this " victory " the CP’s always seem to lose…
Perhaps this is too accurate historically…
Has anyone ever had Russia survive and be a key player in a complete victory?
Any British player not go full build for KTF?
-
Neutrals - what do you do?
The Neutrals in this game are a mixed bag, Spain Norway and Sweden are strong enough to deter most players messing with them… even though I have read some players advocate a US invasion of Spain. I can’t see that that would have had any impact on any of the games we have played.
But Denmark and Holland are not strong enough not to be messed with and SWITZERLAND…come on a 1 :-o
2 units… seems to be a big insult to both the armed forces of Switzerland and the mountainous terrain of the country.
Take away the abilities to violate neutrals and the unlimted British builds in India have little impact, unless they can send more transports to move troops around.
Someone said the only two neutrals that need to be attacked are Switzerland and Persia.
Neutrals and Switzerland need tweaking

RE: Russian Revolution question
So they can’t even enter, lets say, Sevastopol, following revolution, even if no Russian troops are there?
I am sure if it was in their best interest the British would not hesitate to both enter any unoccupied territory or fight any one time allies…ask the French Fleet in WW2.
So the Revolution slams shut the back door to Germany and Austria…
Then that is a better outcome than having Russia’s $
-
Russian Revolution question
OK, so the RR is triggered and accepted.
Russia is out of the war.
Russian troops remain in place wherever they are and are frozen, (setting up local Soviets I assume) they can defend if attacked but otherwise that’s it. Correct?
CP controlled Russian territories remain controlled by the CP and the $ is now the loot of the CP who owns it. Correct?
If the British attack into Russia from India or wherever, can they fight the Russians? Take income from them? I see no rule that suggests they can’t.
IF so, and you allow unlimited British builds in India, the CP will have to garrison the Eastern area.
Can they liberate Moscow? If they do what happens? Simply British get 6 ipc’s or can Russia get back into the war?
-
RE: Victory Conditions w/ Russian Revolution
So the target for the CP would be Rome I assume if Paris can be held?
Has anyone tried an amphib attack on England?
-
RE: Reasons why you shouldn't kill France first
I have found that France isn’t easy to kill as it is quite strong, still it can be done obviously, but Russia is not weak unless its getting hit by all three CP’s. Russia is always on the defensive if its being triple punched every turn. Leave Russia alone and it becomes a juggernaut, a slow moving one, but a moving one nonetheless.
I also feel it is better for the CP’s not to trigger the RR, if it happens OK, we will take it, but I would rather have Russian cash in my bank accounts, all of it, Allows the Germans to have some freedom of builds (a navy to slow down US troop movements and pin the UK up in England) and to out produce France on the ground .
-
RE: Central Powers Navy?
I have found that the only time the German navy should build to interdict US troop convoys is if they have the Russian money. No Revolution but the cash from Russia, That way they have enough to do both land and sea builds.
And really that is the only real reason for the CP to do this, slow down US troops. Has anyone ever actually tried or been in a position to do a German amphib assault on England?
I have found that a German navy build always works, the US troops slow down but they never are stopped completely, so its a short term gain with great $ cost.
And if you follow the rules and allow the UK to build unlimited in India then that is what the UK should do, pour troops into Turkey and southern Russia.
Just my thoughts.
