Not to mention the fate the German POW’s captured at Stalingrad suffered. Only a fraction of these men ever saw their homes again…

RE: What should I choose ? A&A Revised or A&A Europe ?
I should buy the Revised first too if I were you. It’s just the best version there is, although I have to admit that Europe is great one too.
Perhaps you could buy them both, in that way you don’t to make a choice :-D -
RE: Have you ever pissing your opponent off with BB
My thoughts exactly. If Russia is to survive the Axis onslaught, they’re going to need Allied help on the land, altough the Allied Navy should always be able to withstand and defeat an assault by the Luftwaffe(which I always intend to be as big as possible :-D)

RE: Have you ever pissing your opponent off with BB
I really wouldn’t mind the Allies investing in BB every round. It takes a great bite out of their income and that means less land units that go against the Axis.

RE: Japan Strategy
Don’t worry about the Americans. If they split up their IPC’s between Japan and Germany, the Allies will end up loosing the fight. The Brits, if aggressive, can normaly only attack one of both Axispowers. Even if they sink your tranny and your sub, there’s nothing to be affraid of. You can destroy a lot with few efforts when the UK-fleet strikes at the Japanese in turn one, using your fighters.
The only problem is that if and when the UK strikes at the Japanese in UK1, you can probably expect a KJF. Then it’s up to the Germans to Panzer their way to Moscow.
If UK strikes the Japs on UK1, but then divert their offensive actions towards Germany, you shouldn’t have any trouble wiping them out of the Pacific and start nibbling on their income. Especially if USA splits its income between Germany and Japan.
Anyway, that’s what I’ve experienced in the games that I’ve played. An Allied player who tries to assault both Germany and Japans digs his own grave… -
RE: 2 players??
Personally, I think that both options have their advantages.
Sure, playing one on one has something ‘chessy’(and I mean the game ) about it. It’s like you’re trying to get inside the mind of your opponent, deducting his strategy as he/she makes moves and try to make his plans part of your masterplan. It’s fun, it takes a lot of mental work but it’s worth it.
Then again, playing 2 vs 2(I’ve never played with 5 people, and for this I apologize ) has a lot of good features too. Two minds see and think of more than just one. Putting your ideas together will often result in a better plan than either of you thought of, and defeating 2 of your friends(who are your intellectual equals, at least concerning A&A ) gives an enormous satisfaction. Beating two people who think together to defeat you is something special, at least to me.To sum up. There will always be people who prefer one or the other, but I believe that each has its charm, and therefor such discussions are a bit pointless. And to end with a golden oldie: “Live and let live”(Unless your opponents are playing on the Allied side, in which case, kill the bastards )

RE: Any way Axis can win this game????
Our games never use bids either, and the games always are very differents. Some periods of time the Allies dominate, then the Axis find a better plan of attack and win a few games in a row. The Allies then adjust their strategy and start winning again, …
and this goes back and forth.
It’s actually very nice, with new plans and adjusted plans coming along when you least suspect it.
And then suddenly there’s a German army assaulting Washington. Weirdest game of my life :-D -
RE: How Do You Play The US?
If you plan to attack Japan as US, perhaps you can build carriers, fighters and go for long range. Watch your japanese go nuts as you then threaten his outer sea(SZ 60), plus your fighters are quicker on Russian soil.
Personally, Rockets seem like a waste of IPC’s to me. -
RE: Any way Axis can win this game????
I agree with Sergente_nella_neve, Africa is of the utmost importance for the Axis.
Even if it looks uncontrolable for the Germans, try conquering it with the Japanese. Don’t let the British have that ‘easy’ cash. -
RE: New to Revised, A Few Questions
Using ART depends on which country I’m playing.
I find them rather more useful for the Russians, than for the Germans for example.
But that’s just my humble opinion. -
RE: Where to get PC version?
The TripleA is a cool game, but it’s a shame that the AI is sooo lame. It really is to easy.
However, it’s great that they included a lot of versions, and a few new ones(at least to me). The Great War scenario looks nice :-D -
RE: Rocket
@ Cmdr Jennifer: You said what I meant, but your explanation is indeed a lot better than mine.
@ forzaniller: For example, in the German turn. Suppose the Germans have rockets, and the AA-guns are in W-Eur, Ger and S-Eur. All three can hit the UK-IC, but only one of those three may hit the UK-IC. However, the W-Eur AA-gun may hit UK-IC and the S-Eur AA-gun may hit Caucasus.
Now suppose Germany has 2 AA-guns in S-Eur and has rockets. Only one of those two AA-guns may fire this turn, either at UK-IC or Caucasus-IC. But the second AA-gun may not fire this turn, as the other one in S-Eur already has.I think this is correct, and otherwise someone will correct me(I’m looking at you Cmdr Jennifer :-D)
-
RE: Rocket
I think what the rulebook says is this:
Each AA-gun may fire on an IC, but each IC can only be attacked by rockets once each turn.
Example: if the Germans have rockets, and the AA-guns are in their original position, you can only strike the UK-IC once. Should you happen to have an AA-gun in Ukraine, you can use the AA-gun from Germany to attack the UK-IC and the one in Ukraine to attack the Moscow-IC.I think it’s something like that, but I’m not sure. Anyway, rockets are never used in our games( just ask HolKann, he’ll confirm that :-D)

RE: War story
Real-life examples are fun and all, but we have to remember one thing:
We’re not replaying WWII, we’re playing a game of what might have been WWII.
And that’s a good thing too, because otherwise who would ever play the Axis, knowing you’re going to lose?
I think if we were replaying WWII, HolKann would gladly give me the Germans and Japanese every time (Even though he can kick my sorry behind with the Allies anyway).
Being able to change history, is what makes the game so appealing to me.
And using the dice just have a certain charm to it, right? :-P -
RE: War story
Sometimes I hate the dice. Picture this:
I assault London with: 4 INF 4 ARM 6 FIG 1 Bomber
The UK defends with: 8 INF 3 FIG 1AAWith the anti-air he shoots out 5 FIG, and I got only one hit in the first round, where he got 6. I was frakking p*ssed, and almost flipped over the gameboard(almost :-D)
I had a hard time believing in ‘Gott mit uns’ after that one… -
RE: Do you prefer playing axis or allies ?
I don’t agree with the statement that the Allies can better absorb bad dice. It’s true for the US and perhaps to a lesser degree to the UK, but Russia can’t survive bad dice, especially at the start of the game.
If the Russians have some bad dice at the start, then it’s Panzers to Moscow everyone! :evil:But I agree that the Allies rely much more on a team-effort than the Axis do, altough not completly. Because the Allies(if playing smart) always pick one Axis-power to attack(usually the Germans :|), so then it’s up to the other Axis to secure a victory. This can be achieved if the Axis-power under attack resists as long as possible, maybe with some help from his ‘partner in crime’.
Anyway, that’s my opinion and I understand if some of you don’t agree…
-
RE: Do you prefer playing axis or allies ?
OK, back on topic then.
Altough I’m a big fan of the Axis, it has to be said that each power poses its own unique challenge to play with.
Russia:
It has the benefit that it can strike both Japan and Germany, but because of its low income and its position between the two Axis-Powers, it will need the help of the other Allies to survive.Germany:
Starts with the second highest income of the game and they can increase this income fairly quickly. However, it cannot withstand a KGF-plan because they will never generate enough income to withstand 3 powers attacking them.UK:
Has countries all over the world and a lot of possibilities to attack the Axis. But their income can very quickly become very low due to Axis attacks.Japan:
With her strong fleet, it has a lot of options and choices about where they’re gonna assault. But if the US decides to go all-out for Japan with a little support from UK and USSR, then the Japanese are going to get in trouble.US:
Her biggest advantage is her large income combined with her location wich places their large income-countries far away from the Axis. But because they’re so far away from the battlefields, it’s going to take them a lot of time to make a big difference. To conclude:
If you prefer land battles, go with USSR or Germany
If you just can’t resist splashing away in the water, go with UK, Japan or US.There, I said it :-D

RE: Do you prefer playing axis or allies ?
Do not belief what bunny says! It’s all propaganda, it is
-
RE: Do you prefer playing axis or allies ?
Ok, you might win more games with the Allies, but a victory with the Axis is sooooooo much more fulfilling.
What can I say? I’m a man who loves a challenge
And I really like play the evil guy  -
RE: UK: Hold Africa with NAs
I agree, the game is already favoring the Allies. A great bid for the Germans then seems fair to me.
