Japan will be the nation you need to get really aggressive here. Japan could win the war on its own while the Allies are focused on the european conflict. If you make some good moves early on the allies could even get worried and bring some stuff back to the pacific, lessening the pressure on germany.

RE: Thoughts on Allies Strategy
About the ANZAC landing in Brazil - I think it’s a bit risky, since you’re using valuable transports that could be used to claim the money islands (If there is not much Japanese influence) and I usually find that by around turn 3 ANZAC’s main priority is to simply defend their own borders and sea zones as the Japanese usually make a push for the money islands. I think taking and building a minor IC in Brazil would stretch ANZAC a bit too much.
Note - this is from my experience only. Please feel free to contradict me.

RE: What are you reading
D-Day by Antony Beevor - probably one of the more well known books by one of the more well known writers out there. All of Antony’s books are great in my opinion. He manages to show what was happening in great detail while keeping it engaging. I would recommend it greatly.

Solid strategies for a first time game of P402ndEd
Hello all,
I am having a game of Pacific 1940 2ndEd in three days and I have never played P40 on its own. I always play Global. Do the strategies of the nations change much from Global? I’m playing a pretty expirienced player so it would be great if I could get some help.
Thanks. -

Great to hear that you’re enjoying this great game. Good luck in all your future conquests!

RE: Best things for USA to do
I usually focus on Japan first and at least try to gain naval superiority in the Pacific (which can be no easy task). If I end up successful in this I often try an invasion of Spain, although you need a lot of resources to be able to do this.

RE: Best spot for US to land?
My personal preference is to land in Spain, but you need to build up a lot of transports and land units to land there because of the infantry defence and that there is usually (in my experience) quite a lot of Axis forces in Southern France/Normandy. The gains of the Axis moving into the now Pro-Axis controlled Turkey and Sweden can be countered with a constant stream of transports in the following turns and a minor IC on Spain.
When the U.S. is landing in Spain you need to commit all your resources bought to it or you can possibly lose it. Always land prepared.

RE: Europe 40 or Pacific 40?
In my opinion Europe is better for a first choice. In my opinion there are simply more strategies and options for either side than Pacific. It can be a completely different game every time. It’s also good if there are more than one players that want to play axis.
Note: I’ve only ever played Europe on its own about 3 times, and I’ve never played Pacific on its own I usually play global.

RE: 1940 Global 3rd Edition?
The idea of it being standalone is great. When I bought G40 a few years ago, The shop i bought it from only sold P40 and I ended up having to order E40 from overseas.

RE: How to create magnetic carrier based planes
Thanks this was really helpful. I really hate the way the Japanese tac. bombers have wheels which makes them nearly impossible to keep on carriers. This solved that problem. Thanks!
