RE: US technique to destroy the Luftwaffe in W. Europe
This is a good concept… BUT
There are much more effective ways to meet the same end, and to be honest, If I was the germans, I wouldn’t attack your fleet, I would spend my time fighting other more valuable targets.
Worse, this entire plan requires until atleast US 6 or 7 to accomplish, and to what end? Why not just focus on getting results in the pacific an mediterranean.

Ok can agree that it would happen by turn 6 or so which is late but it would be hard to ignore 3 cruisers and 3 transports right off the coast of Berlin. Not only
Would you have to build to defend west germany but also Berlin that sux up a lot of money that could be used against Russia. As I’m not as experienced
A player what would you suggest specifically. I like the Italy idea but it takes a while to get into position but even if you are able to capture Rome the axis will take it right back if they’ve built correctly.There are much more effective ways to meet the same end, and to be honest, If I was the germans, I wouldn’t attack your fleet, I would spend my time fighting other more valuable targets.

RE: Question on Russian National Objectives
My group and I play any territory in Europe so Finland and Sweden are possibilities even Ireland but the soviet union has never taken Ireland. The persian teritories are not in Europe so they don’t count. Technically turkey is not in europe that’s why I think it’s specified. So any territory in Europe plus Turkey. Hope this helps.

US technique to destroy the Luftwaffe in W. Europe
Just had an idea to force Germany to use her airforce in defense of Germany and Wgermany in order to destroy it. Here goes. Firstly capture Norway and build a factory and an airbase there. Make sure you have a full compliment of fighters there and then start building cruisers/destroyers in the Baltic with transports to follow this. This allows the US to bypass taking Denmark which the German player should have well defended…at least I always do (usually 12+ inf there with a large force on Wgermany which can retake it if neccesary). The German player can’t allow this as now he’ll have to also buy to defend Berlin so he’ll have to attack your 3 cruisers with there 3 fighter scrambles. if he destroys you you still probably took out a good amount of airforce and then you can just rebuild it all again because he cant match your production because then his assault into Russia will run out of steam. If he ignores it then access to Berlin, Poland, and the Baltic states have just opened up to US ground forces. Anybody here use this technique with the US and if you have how did it work?

Does the US have enough production to win the war?
My playgroup and I just finished our first full game of alpha 3 last night. The game spanned two different saturdays and lasted many turns. I played Germany/Italy and in the end the allies conceded (it looked like Moscow was going to fall in 3-4 turns). I was deep into Russia and Western Europe was impregnable. I’ll give credit to my friend who came up with a technique for pecking infantry away. He kept attacking with 3 inf every turn taking amphibious shots with the stack of cruisers he had. It got annoying because he was taking out anywhere between 2 and 7 inf a round from Denmark but no matter how much he built, invading Europe was a distant dream due to the forces I had there. In the Pacific the US and Japan eventually met in a giant fleet battle with some of Anzac’s fleet participating as well. The two two navy’s pretty much eradicated each other. The US couldnt spare the resources to rebuild another Pacific fleet because he was tied up in Europe trying to prevent the downfall of the Soviet Union. So even though Japan lost most of its fleet they were able to start rebuilding and slowly started steam rolling through mainland Asia. The writing on the wall was evident for Calcutta. So basically what’s the US to do? My idea would be to spend the first 3 rounds building a massive fleet with transports and inf/arts to check Japan from getting their 6 victory cities. Then spend the next 2 rounds building a fleet with trans of inf/arts to take Norway and build a factory there and then start purchasing 3 units a round for assistance to Russia with the rest of my income invested against Japan until Japan was no longer a threat to Anzac/Calcutta then reinvest everything again against Germany. Just wanted to bounce this idea off of some of you more experienced players to get your opinion. And if you don’t feel this is a a sound method for playing the US what do you suggest?

RE: US income question alpha 3
@Young:
The $50 icon printed on the western US territory no longer has meaning in the Alpha modifications. At the end of the turn in which America declares war, they will earn the total sum of original income, new income, and National objectives (usually comes to $72, or $77 if they still control the Phillipenes).
Thanx Grasshopper much appreciated. My play group wasnt sure if that was only for pacific or if it carried into global.

US income question alpha 3
When the us declares war does she just get her 20 extra for no’s or does she also get the value of the western US to increase to 50. Essentially does the US enter the war making 72 or 112?
