That would have been the better idea, after gaining the oil from Rumania…
Even Julius Cesar knew that you don’t play arround w. the Balkan States…Nobody mentioned it to Mussolini at that time probably!? lol

RE: News story on 70th anny of start of the Great War
Yupp 70 years ago German SS soldiers in polish Uniforms captured a German radio station and declared that Poland is attacking the Reich…
German answer was an Invasion and a German voice in the radio wich said:"Seit fuenf uhr dreissig wird zurueck geschossen!!..
"we fired back since five thirty (o’clock)!!..
Division Brandenburg sneaked allready through Polish area to capture vital bridges, Schleswig Holstein fired at Danzig /G’dansk and Polish horsemen tried to attack german tanks…

RE: Favorite WWII Anti-Tank Gun/Weapon to destroy a Tank?
no wonder!..Germans used better oculars to estimate the distance in africa because of the heat blurres from the ground…in africa speed was important…if you could make the enemy before he could make you out the advance was on your side…they used to fire allready from far distance…
your grandpa was awsome by taking out those Tiger Tanks w. his men…must been around spring in '42 !?.. -
RE: 1942: The Eastern Front
It was still salvageable in '42…after the wehrmacht had the initiative back they were still able to push the russians back…the main operative goals were okay , but
issues had to be solved first!-
removing lenningrad was a must!
-
put either General Kleist into a diffrent command or give Guderian a higher comand instead
of removing him and give him a job wich he was not totaly made for. -
Sevastopol could wait! so it wouldn’t be necassary to transfer him together w. a whole
Armygroup… -
Push to Moscow
-
Push to Stalingrad as planned later on (Mansteinsplan) and not altered by taking the half
4th PD away… -
and of course no Propaganda missions like taking the Elbrus for pitures in the wochenschau
this is based for 1942 not '41 by having the misstake not to regroup behind the Dinjepr river
It was still durabel to reach the AA-line Astrahkan-Arcangel…but like IL allready said ,the wrong choices were made to make it happend…good for us so we are still able to watch a clear sunrise and not behind barbwire or at all…
I think it was Gen. Kleist who wrote in his diary on his way to Moscow that they have reached the point of culmination…it is here were we will either fail like Napoleon or making History !

RE: What if?
@Imperious:
The British fleet didn’t bother to show up when they needed to get the BEF and french out at Dunkirk.
Why is their any indication that if the Germans invaded from the same place, that the British would have done anything to stop it?
The Germans with 4:1 air superiority could not come close to sinking fishing boats and tugboats ferrying wounded men. Once the Germans cross to Dover in real ships the British would have no answer and would chew up their air forces in short order and her pilots would be landing in the sea, rather than parachuting on a farm to be reused latter.
IL that is actually not quite true…the Britian had allready start working on some fortifications, flametowerbunker, mines, deathtraps and so on…The UK was very aware that a possible Invasion could occur…nevertheless
Hitler decided not to Invade for some reason.
It is mentioned that he felt sympathy for England and on the other hand the space in the East was his ultimate and primary goal…why he started to get ready for the amphibious assault and suddenly changed his mind is better to understand from his political intrest point of view like other decissions he made during the whole east campagne…I have even the Opinion that to conquer and hold a territory like the UK and going on a warfare w. an even bigger enemy and landmass would not be wisley, it is rather force and resource consuming…and that the war was lost in 1942 ,I don’t share that opinion that much either based on If other choices would have been made it could look like a lot diffrent than the actual outcome…Greek, the Balkan and africa were always a sidekick Theatre to him, this is why the supplys for africa felt so short because it had less priority… -
RE: Favorite WWII Anti-Tank Gun/Weapon to destroy a Tank?
I’m sure Emperor_Taiki
nice video but I wonder why they called it heavy art. HUMMEL?
here is a data sheet, I translated the important stuff…
The Pak 38 was in duty untill the end of the war in europe…yes I’m aware of the Pak 36 the Landser called it PAK-Panzer Anklopf Kanone wich means like Panzer Knock knock Kannon
because the shells bounced off of almost any russian tank and was not able to penetrate the thick armour of French Soumo ,Russian T34 and KV classes…I agree on Pak 36 was not a considerable weapon to knock out a tank but it remained untill the end of the war as well…PAK-38 cm Abwehrgeschuetz

RE: Favorite WWII Anti-Tank Gun/Weapon to destroy a Tank?
that sounds a little optimistic to me. is there a source for this?
yes there is!
One was wiki of course because I remembered actually 500 till 800 meters on certain shells/granates but I also read a book and it had hit charts in it as well…
“Die dt. Panzerjägertruppe 1935-1945. Katalog der Waffen, Munition und Fahrzeuge”
-Podzun-Pallas Verlag.de Germany
and the other source was from ex-soldiers who fought and could confirm certain things for me…but 500 meters was very accurate considering typ of tank, wind, shell/granate and hit direction, stopped or moving Target.
Russian Tanks shot while they where driving, German Tank commanders stopped their tank, aimed and then took the shot…learned and exercised in numerous drills…later on like '43 the drill was cut down in time ,because so many men where needed and the loss of many really good tank crews because of sometimes stupid decissions made marked the spirit of the Panzer-Elite…If somebody is getting a chance to read a Tiger Fibel will know what I mean!..aiming was kind of art and skill of good guessing in the same time…on the other hand russians did almost everything in big numbers you basically learned while you where put into frontline.Russian soldiers where excellent in disguising and camoflage.
For example they let a whole Platoon of tanks or supply trucks pass by and hide to only hit 'em when they where coming back…pretty smart cuz they know there will be no granate on the front for a while…“Ratsch-bumm” -
RE: Favorite WWII Anti-Tank Gun/Weapon to destroy a Tank?
My favorit would be the ZiS-3, it brought a lot of misery to the german forces.
The german soldiers gave that gun the nickname “RATSCH-BUMM”, because the sound of the shot and impact was almost simultaneously. The reason was that the gun barrel was tappered. The Pak 38 is nice ,too!
I like it w. a diffrent muzzle, the one w. many holes to damp the fire so the enemy had a harder time to locate the position.
I remember the Luftwaffen Felddivisionen used it in big numbers, it was easier to move manually and you could hook it on to a SdKfz 250 or 251 or even Krupp Protze Types…If I remeber correctly the effective range for a Pak 38 on a T34 was about 500 meters… -

I would be interrestet in your favorites ,likes and dislikes about any Anti-tank Gun of WW II.

RE: If Japan had attacked the USSR, would Germany have defeated the Soviets?
It wouldn’t matter if Japan attacks russia or not at this point of time.
The german OKH decided not to go for Moscow after Juli 27th and Hitlers decission was to go for four Russian armys (5th,21st,26th and 37th) in the area of Gomel and Kiev under the considerations that those forces are threaten the flanks of Heeresgruppe Sued and rather be a good opportunity to encircle and destroy them!…
After that the Moscow push came to an Halt again.
The majority of the Panzerverbaende had to keep the back floodding russians at bay or help out to destroy certain pockets…when they finally regrouped for the PUSH to Moscow again time was allready running out and winter came close…It’s still amazing that a platoon of
Artillery reconnaissance came that close to Moscow that they could look through their binoculars and see the Kremel…
If Japan would attack pearl harbor the next year it would have maybe an Impact on the Easternfront.
Japan was a threat no matter what ,because it held the Sibirian forces on the borders to China and if Japan would have been successful w. an attack is written on another paper…
Also is to consider how it would end if General Guderian wasn’t set back for the difficulties he had w. General Kleist…thats my Input on this Topic -
RE: Recommended reading on Battle of Stalingrad?
“The heart of the 6th army” by Heinz G. Konsalik
“Dogs, Do You Want To Live Forever” don’t know the author but there is a film out w. that title and the book of course
you also wanna check “Podzun-Pallas books” they are from Germany but have english subtitle. The book Stalingrad was very good, it had all the time frames from Voronesh to the end of the pocket of Stalingrad…causulties, numbers of men fought and died, Divisions, Generals almost everything…it even mentioned the story of that russian guy who invented a AA-gun out of a bicycle and scrap…but it is more a documentry book

Industrial Complex
I was wondering if there is any useful way to purchase and place/use an Industrial Complex for US in that game?…
From my understandig of the rulebook is it only possible if:- you conquer an enemy territory like Bonin Is. for example or
- retake the Philippines
The rulebook says that the territory needs an IPC value.
you can retake an allied one but it is still owed by the former ally.Considering a strategy to set up an IC on Solomon Is. will probably fail.
I thank you upfront for your input in this manner!
Any good strategy for US is as well welcomed…Thank you -
RE: I need some ideas to invade norway with the allies…
The AC build in Canada pays off…It’s either drawing a lot of attention or ends up in a very effective Sub Hunting Group-SHG…In a game I cleared almost all Convoy Zones and eliminated the Sub-thread once and for all on UK 2…the firepower was superior -
1 AC, 1 Trn, 1 DD and landed Ftr on the AC. Later combined w. BB and additional DD’s is unstopable…The Axis player has to choose more carefully what to go for…I ended up winning on UK 6 w. direct Invasion on Germany…(I attacked the Axis player TP w. 14 T-34’s and around twenty Inf. on R4… lured him in lol)…Thanks again Roger for the AC tip it really brings more flavor to my AAE strategy…Trying now how I get an AC for Germany involved into the game, right now I still end up on purchase round G4…I wish they would make a bigger map w. mobilized Inf. Units and Victory City’s like Kiev, Brijansk, Orel , Paris ,Rome and so on…would be very interessting or even an Africa map '42…- Herr Kaleu das ventil leckt!

RE: What do you think of General George S. Patton?
look both of you !!!
if your were caught stealing from a comrade, leave your watch, flee from the flag, said bad things about the fuehrer or said anything like -ohh we not gonna win the war or else in the wehrmacht you would have been either send to a “strafbatallion” for punishment or shot…
what I’m trying to say is you swore an oath you’re a soldier, you have diziplin and you are there for your comrads…I don’t know much about it was in the U.S military in that time for doing one of these things I mentioned above ,but the soldiers in the wehrmacht were in deep trouble!!!..If they had bad luck they were send to SS Dirlewangers punishment batillion to clean the area of partisans and they usually had 80-90% of losses each time when they had to go for a seek and destroy mission… -
RE: Choose your Leader
