Victory in Europe

I have won before by having Germany march down to India, but not through Turkey.  Push the Russians back to Moscow then go down the middle east.  The Allies think you are going for Egypt, and maybe you are.  You make more money this way than attacking neutrals.  Do it just right and the allies spend mountains of cash defending Egypt, but then you turn left at Persia while Japan intimidates Hawaii.

Plausible but all cheesey gambits, the clock starts to run out on you as soon as the enemy figures out what you are doing.  If your enemy has seen the gambit before, they will know what you are up to and will figure out a loophole.

To repeat what Cow was mooing, USA bombers can go to New Zealand then calcutta in 2 turns.

Going back to Italian can opening, I like to buy a mech or two It1 and send a tank with them w/bmr to open up some doors for the Germans. The Italians can take territories and have the Germans move in with land and air to stand next to the Russian stack (no Russian hit and run). Having the Italians take out Russian pickets can possibly let German units get to the Ukraine IC or oil territories quicker. Another form of Italian can opening I do is taking out the Russian cruiser blocker in the Baltic w/It air so the Germans can include an amp on Leningrad the turn they attack Russia. Having a small Italian force at the front lines can also head off a splintered UK force trying to come up from the south. If the Japanese are at Russia’s back door, or have managed to push the UK from the Middle East (USA going heavy Europe), then the Italians may be able to break into the Oil territories for income, leaving the Germans intact to push into Moscow. It seems like a waste for the Japanese to get all the oil territories when the Ger/Ital get a bonus, but having the Japanese get Caucasus works for the Euro axis. Also having the Japanese invading the Far East Pac territories to drain Russian income is a must IMO. Invade no later the J2, and don’t fear the Mongolians just have some ground units in place to to chase most of them down w/air power.

On a side note I generally build some combo of ships/tpt/bmrs G1/G2, or save most income G1 to keep the UK honest. By the end of G2 I’ll have at least 3 tpts, 4 bmrs along with some support ships to again make the UK pay attention (even when my intention is to use navy to drop units in Russia). I just don’t like to give the UK the freedom to do what she wants. I have been using SBR more on London/Moscow to force the allies to pay extra for their units. In some games you can force the Russians to build every other turn, but the RAF can make that difficult in both capitals though. I also like to add art to the early German buys to give the front lines a little more bite. Most allied opponents will get some air to Moscow, so the German stack will most likely get stalled allowing art built G2 to catch up as you use the Russian ICs to add more units.

May be another good time to remind that all the territories on the Western Board belong to UK Atl econ

And all the territories on the Easter Board belong to UK pac economy….

The only exceptions to these rules are Canadian territories which belong to UK Atl and West India that belongs to UK pac…I think…The UK pac only has the $1 for Canada when you play the Pac board alone

Regardless of “whose” british units capture these territories.  Iraq, Persia etc always belong to UK Atl., for example.  If you want a MiC in Persia, only UK Atl can buy it or fund purchases there.

There is no such thing as a “UK Pac” or “UK Atl” unit, only separate UK $ and UK control.

As for my most epic comeback. I was axis. Berlin was turtled up with allies surrounding it in aa50. Japan was ready to attack moscow next round, I just had to survive berlin one more round. Rome was American

Allies all in berlin, uk goes first with about 60% odds. uk fails, usa goes with about 80% odds… fails. Germany scores improved artilly and blows up taking back territories. Japan goes to hit russia to end the game, with 1.5 tanks for every russian inf and 6 fighters for his 2… Japan loses hard.

Anyway 5 rounds later the game is still going the battles still raging. Germany blew up in europe to make 10 inf/arty a turn. italy only made 3 inf.

Japan with armor units to match infantry just couldn’t take russia every round 14 armor coming in hot, just no dice. Then the all in on berlin happens one more time… back to back uk / usa. usa draws with germany, berlin was empty.

then finally Japan took russia. uk failed berlin, usa got it. Meanwhile in the pacific. Japan in desperation attacked hollywood 1 armor and LRA that it discovered and took hollywood. USA had two armor on east usa, and japan defended.

that was epic.

I was rolling 3 tech rolls for about 10 rounds with japan and finally got something lol, perfect timing cos I just bought bombers on japan last turn.

I just played a 20+ hour game to a draw although I might of lost if it was played to conclusion. I sent the Japan Navy to Africa and protected Italy.  Italy then was spending close to the points of Germany.  The USA fleet battled the Japan fleet in the Med Sea and the Japan fleet destroyed it along with 17 US transports.  At this point Europe was Fortress that the US could never crack because I built mostly inf and art with Italy and Germany all game.  The problem is I was only able to destroy India and the Russian Inf.  China and Australia got out of hand because I did not kill them.  The Australians boarded transports and took some islands and china had a stack of like 40 inf.  We were at a point of after 20+ of play that I was not in position to get 14 victory cities but that I had about 200 inf art in Europe and America had to start a new fleet to come over to attack.  It was called a draw.

The problem is that you would have lost if the game played out as a simple money thing. The allies have more to throw at the axis over time and they could have taken Japan out forcing Germany to attack with lots of 1’s  or sit back and watch Japan get killed and then over time wittle down Germany and Italy. It would have taken another 20 turns at least.

Yes and I have even a bigger color difference between the two European boards.  So much so that when I show it off so far to three different people the first thing thay say is wow the size is impressive, the second thing is, “look how different the blue is in the sea between these two boards.” stands out big time.  Not a big deal to me but I can see how obvious it is when it keeps getting pointed out…

Ours also has quite a color difference. There’s more yellow in the blue of the Pacific board - or the other way around, can’t check, don’t have the board here. It shows less in the land areas since abit more yellow in brownish colors won’t show that much.

Also it shows so hard because there happens to be a LOT of ocean there. :)

Doesn’t really bother me, though.
