Revising the Strategies for this sight

  • I would like to make a comprehensive list of all the strategies of this sight that need revising or just deleting.

Being a moderator, I would like to stay out of the actual discussion, but will make a list of them which are either (a) Out of date, (b) Stupid or © Repetitive(meaning, a similar or identical strategy is already posted)

So, name the name of the Strategy, which section it is listed under (Allies, USSR, Germany, UK, USA, Axis and allies Pacific, Axis and Allies Europe, ect.)

    So, argue away!

  • Yanny, you’re too good to stay out of the conversations

  • I’d like to involve the patrons of this forum and this site rather than Me and David do it.

  • Well I don’t think you should remove any of the edit any of the strats without contacting any of the original posters.

  • Is that posible? I don’t know, still waiting for David on this one.

  • Yanny, that’s not what I meant, you used to be just a patron to this forum and I, for one, enjoy hearing your input on things that I think up or situations I have faced.
I mean, sure, things are a little different with you being a moderator, but you are one of the main ways that I learn about these advanced strategies that everyone keeps talking about.

  • I just don’t want to end up doing everything, and my strategies and some past ones being the only ones on the site. It would be pretty dull.

  • Hiya, shabob! Yanny has offered … let’s HELP him CLEAN IT UP!!!

“Remember ‘kyfho’ is another word for safety”—Xi

  • Yanny,
    See STRATEGIES-AXIS & ALLIES-USA(4)
All these stategies are minimally acceptable…somewhat depending on how stupid you and/or your opponent are … or the previous moves of your opponents/allies.

  • Y.,
    See STATEGY=AXIS & ALLIES-JAPAN
Japan’s Most Crucial Strategy (#6) and Land Based Power (#8) could be combined.

My Ultimate Perfect Unalterable Victorious Battle Strategery Plan changes with every contact with the enemy and/or my kids with markers–-Xi

  • The real problem is that so many of the strategies are not illegal, and not so ridiculous that they HAVE to be removed, but they are still weak strategies.

For example, the first strategy listed under Japan calls for TWO industrial complexes to be built in the first THREE rounds. One goes in Burma, the second could be in Sinkiang (!!) (“if the Russians have stripped forces”) or in Manchuria. I don’t know of any experienced player who would pursue that many factories that quickly. Combining 1 factory in Kwangtung or Burma with transport bridging from Japan to Manchuria will use up your production capacity until you reach the point that most of Asia is conquered, at which point a second factory MIGHT be considered. But not in Sinkiang, which has a production capacity of only two and can be hit by newly purchased Russian tanks.

This is the problem: Not so bad that you have to remove this strategy, just bad enough so that experienced players read it and ask, “What is the problem with the strategies they post at this site?”

  • Yeah I’ll admit some of the strats are real stinkers but that’s all we got.

Never before have we had so little time in which to do so much

  • Most of them are “If Germany did this, and got bad luck, and UK had incredibly good luck, and Japan did something incredibly stupid, US can do this….”

Strategies like that have no merit. Personally, we need a guide to playing, not unlike Don Rae’s strategies. How about 4 or 5 of us write them, we each pick a country. Each does a “General Principles for (insert country here)”. We post it on this board, edit as a community, and have David post them on the sight when done.

I am prepared to write for any country.

  • Would it be possible to implement a rating system for the strategies on the site? Just something simple like a line at the top of a strategy saying “this strategy rated # out of 5(or 10) by # users” and a button at the bottom to allow readers to submit their rating which would be averaged and displayed at the top. It’s just an idea, I know nothing about running a website and it may to more trouble than it’s worth.

  • I think that would be a great idea. That way all the other players won’t have to browse through each strategy to find out which one is best.

  • I think 2 major categories for each country would be best. Call them, “General Principles” and “Strategies” or something like that. General Principles would be like: “To win, Germany must accomplish 3-goals…” . Strategies would be like: “T1, Germany buys this and moves like this…” and so on. I also think new strategies should be reviewed and if they have merit and originality, put up on the site.

I don’t think strategies should be put in “experience level” categories. We all know how that would go down–the strategies that were “high level” would get all the hits while those whose strategies were considered “basic” to “remedial” would feel let down…why put up a “newbie” strategy anyways–no one will read them and if a strategy works it works, if it doesn’t it doesn’t. Know what I mean?

  • The reason I suggested the review or rather rating on quality and effectiveness is so that people would have some help in deciding whether or not a strategy would work, some of them sound good at first but just don’t work. Also, I like it that there are lots of strategies both good and bad. Even the bad ones may contain something of value, even if it’s just to get your imagination going thinking of something new to try out. For example, there are two strats on Germany taking E Can. I don’t believe either will work as written, but it’s got me thinking about the possibilities. Plus who would determine which strats are posted and which are not?

  • Can rating be done with HTML? I dunno, HTML is chineese to me.

  • Hmmm… I think so. I suppose that a rating system would be handled like a sort of online poll.
